Chapter 71: 71. Battle Against The Wild Boar

71. Battle Against The Wild Boar

The group of hunters were without a doubt adventurers. In their group the main powerhouse was their leader, a thirty foot rock golem that looked more slender than bulky making it capable of swift movement. The golem was one of the humanoid species that was well known in the areas, he was known as Garult the west blade.

He used his sword to slash at the head of the wild boar, it butt it’s head at him in it’s defense. They clashed and at the right moment he jerked out of the way and screamed. "Larius!"

"Right." Said a young elf who was armed with a bow and arrow. He let two arrows fly in the air which would have not been effective at first but he was also an intermediate wind mage, he wrapped the tail of his bows in a funnel of wind that propelled them further increasing their speed. The arrows did not miss their mark as they both lodged into the eyes of the wild boar causing it to roar out in rage.

The golem who was standing lose to it met it at the side with his blade thrust into its neck. "I have to beat it before it goes into a mad frenzy." These was the fear of many hunters as some beasts when conered or when they had taken a great amount of damage would enter a state known as mad frenzy where their bloodlust would take over them throwing the beast into a mad rage.

The group of adventurers though well known were not a big deal, they just did a lot of D rank missions and a few C rank missions. The most known in the group was the golem swordsman Garult the west blade.

The blade of the golem struck the beast in the neck, Garult kicked with his thighs and drove the shaft of the blade deeper into the beasts neck apparently killing it. But the case was not so as the great wild boar went into a mad frenzy at the same time.

From it’s nose hissed out steam and it pulled away just before the attack could reach it’s completion. Next it turned its back to the golem in one swift motion and raised its leg for a killing blow. Despite being a golem with rock hard skin Garult did not wasn’t to take its blow, he was left with blocking the blow or dodging but it’s legs came back with the force of a motor engine and struck him square on the chest.

There was a loud thump them a crack spreading across his chest just as the attack set him flying backwards. "Dammit!" Garult groaned in pain as he struck the ground with his blade to slow him down but the force kept pushing him back by a few meters before stopping. And when he finally came to a halt he held tight to the blade not wanting to fall. "No! I will never be lowered to my knees by a damn beast."

Larius the young elf who was also an archer let his wind arrow fly at the beast that was in a state of mad frenzy. With their main fighter now in such a state they were left with two choices. One was to wait for the beast to run exhaust it’s energy by burning it’s life force and the second was to escape, luckily there was a third option.

Deet the earth mage screamed. "Elise! Heal Garult while we keep the damn pig busy!" 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

This was directed to the last member of the team who was the healer and the only human in the group. She looked to be in her early twenties and having light blue hair and a pale face like that of snow and eyes hidden behind a pair of round glasses, she strode over to where Garult was in haste, her mage’s cape flapping behind her as she powered up her mages staff. Healers were hard to come by because most of them were taken by the military and some mercenary group, they were not scarce but it came down to the matter of how much you were willing to pay for their skill.

A higher ranked healer would demand more pay whether or not they performed in battle because they would pretty much earn as much just working for a military battalion or a research facility. It’s was also rumoured that the human nations produced the best healers in the world making them a very valued piece of the world’s power system. Having a nation of the hest healers meant they would not have much casualties in a war, this was another reason why the human nations were not bothered much but the other factions of the magic world.

As Elise was busy healing Garult, Deet and Larius released a barrage of well timed attacks at the beast and made significant damage to its thick hide. The technique employed was to attack it from both sides while also going around in circles this way they would be able to exploit it’s blindness with ease and stay safe.

If Deet was firing it with earth spikes he had solidified from the earth beneath his feet, Larius would aim his arrows at its soft spots. This technique worked for a short before the beast chose to attack the one it felt most threatened by and boy did the stone spikes pack a punch.

In one quick recoil it’s started charging in the direction of Deet who was surprised to find out that he was the target, he buckled himself and stopped his feet on the ground causing a small gap to form in the ground making the beast trip only for a second. He then contoured up a wall of stone which the beast rammed through a before he could fully erect it, now a few feets away he chose to jump to the side but surprisingly the beast picked up on his movement and burst forward with explosive force.

Larius arrow attacks were futile as the great wild boar had chosen to ignore them and now the beast was upon the noble earth mage in what could be his final moments.
