The maid observed him. She felt that he was familiar, but she could not place a finger on where she must have seen him.
Lu Wei was an actor, a famous one at that. And he knew that he would be recognized if he went to the party without disguise.
Presently, he was putting on white joggers, a white T-shirt, and also a cap, with a mask.
"You look familiar," the maid commented as she stared at him warily.
"Am I?" Lu Wei asked. He deliberately lowered his voice, so she would not recognize his voice.
The maid squinted at him. She wanted to know if he was truly the one she had in mind, but his cap which was surprisingly pulled down could not make her see his face.
Her eyes brightened as she thought about an idea. Since he wanted to see Gu Shishi, she would tell him that he was unable to see her unless she was able to see his face.
Lu Wei noticed the glint in her eyes, and he frowned instinctively. He had an idea where this was going to, currently, the only option he had was to reveal his identity.
"Sir, I am sorry to disappoint you, but you won’t be able to see Miss Shishi since I have no idea who you are," the maid smiled at him.
She also wondered how he was able to make his way into the mansion, before she finally recalled that the gate was opened for all today.
Lu Wei smiled in reply. He had already expected this, so he was not really surprised.
"Are you sure you want to see my face?" Lu Wei asked playfully, a smile playing on his face.
"Yes, if not, you won’t be able to see my miss," the maid was adamant, and Lu Wei sighed, before taking off his mask, and cap.
As expected, the maid let out a gasp in surprise.
"Y-you are Lu Wei? Lu Wei in flesh?" The maid took a step back, rubbing her eyes as she was in disbelief.
"Well, as you can see, I am Lu Wei, can I see Gu Shishi now that you have seen my face?" Lu Wei pleaded.
He desperately needed to see Gu Shishi before the party began.
The maid, though still reeling in a state of surprise, understood that this was a matter of urgency, so she secretly brought Lu Wei to Gu Shishi’s room.
"Since I brought you to her room, I will be expecting a personal autograph, I hope you will be able to grant my request," the maid smiled as they finally approached Gu Shishi’s room.
Lu Wei nodded at the maid. It was expected that she was going to ask for this, so he was not bothered.
"Alright, I will make sure I do so before leaving, and please be sure to remind me," he said to her, and she nodded, before finally leaving Lu Wei in front of Gu Shishi’s room.
Lu Wei took a deep breath, any sign of confidence leaving him. His breath turned shaky. He would never have thought that he would develop cold feet when he finally reunited with his childhood sweetheart.
"Okay, Lu Wei, take deep breaths, do not act too bothered, but why is her room located so far away from the main house?" Lu Wei mumbled to himself as he looked around.
He shook his head, in a bid to clear out other thoughts. He only wanted to focus on Gu Shishi, as that was the reason he was there.
Likewise, he finally swallowed before raising his hand to knock on the door.
Lu Wei opened the door when he heard the permission to come in.
"Who are you?" Tang Mei queried, staring at him with wary eyes.
What was running through her mind was that he was the assassin ordered by her brothers to take care of her. She had been so brutally traumatized by their words.
Gu Shishi could vividly remember that they had told her that she will be dying on her birthday.
Today was her birthday, she had no doubt her siblings would fulfill the vow.
Thinking about this, Gu Shishi curled into her bed, the alertness in her eyes increased as she stared at Lu Wei who was surprised by her reaction.
He frowned. This was not his expectation, and her next words completely shattered his thought process.
"Please stay away from me, I know my brothers must have sent you to kill me, I am aware of that, but at the very least, let me enjoy my birthday," Gu Shishi’s eyes were unfocused as she pleaded.
The frown on Lu Wei’s face deepened. He pondered on what she must have faced, which warranted such an intense reaction to strangers from her.
"Relax, I am not an assassin, I am a friend of yours, don’t you recognize me?" Lu Wei stated with a light tone as he removed all of his disguise.
Gu Shishi suddenly became calm and silent when she saw his face.
"Lu Wei?" She called out with uncertainty.
"That’s me," he replied as he approached her carefully.
"Do you recognize me?" He asked expectantly.
"Of course, and so does everyone, you are the biggest star of China, you are a household name, who hasn’t heard of this name; Lu Wei?" Gu Shishi answered with confidence.
But this was not the answer Lu Wei expected from her. He facepalmed at once when he heard her statement. It seemed he was the only one who recalled their meeting several years ago.
"Don’t you remember me?" He asked, observing her expression to see if he could get what he wanted, but it was blank, her expression was zero.
"I only see your movies, and my friends are the reason I see it, other than that, I don’t think I know you," Gu Shishi shook her head, her words were like thunderbolt to Lu Wei.
It turns out that she was not even a fan of him. He chuckled loudly, but one could hear the hint of sourness and bitterness in his voice.
