Reborn As A Ghost: Time To Build My Undead Army!-Chapter 1791: Anubis’ Loyalty
-----
"A-Ahhh! Damn it! DAMN IT ALL!"
Amuth screamed in despair as he commanded every pyramid to rush toward him. They began fusing with his main machine. Blood streamed from his eyes and nose while he forced his Divinity to unleash its full might.
"ALL OF YOU WILL PAY!"
With a massive swing of his titanic hand, he hurled back those attacking him. Emeraldine, Arthur, Alma, Nyx, Nia, and Celes were forced to retreat as a colossal machine over six hundred meters tall emerged.
"ALL OF YOU WILL DIE!!!"
Blood poured from his mouth as his power surged without limit. Divinity erupted into gigantic shockwaves, flattening the world around him. Every machine in the vicinity died instantly.
The people inside screamed in agony, unable to withstand the overwhelming force.
"W-What the hell is this guy?!" Partner groaned, struggling against the relentless waves of divinity. "Was he always this strong?!"
"No. He is likely the strongest of his family, but he is sacrificing his own lifespan to unleash this power," Lucifer said. He shielded everyone with his massive body, which could endure tremendous punishment with ease.
"Maria! Where’s big sis?! She took a bunch of nukes, then did something, but where is she now?!" Arthur asked, scanning the area frantically.
"T-There?!" Alma pointed into the distance.
RUMBLE!
A vast mass of shadows appeared as her Soul Realm opened. A potent divinity, rivaling Amuth’s own, began to manifest.
"If you want your damned god so badly, here he is!"
Maria poured her Soul Energy and Dream Essence into the Divine Tomb, instantly awakening Anubis from his eternal slumber.
The golden tomb parted to reveal a ghostly, titanic god over five hundred meters tall.
Though he appeared solid, he remained ethereal, composed of golden and black divine energies. His jackal-like face twisted in fury.
He wore a golden crown and many ornate accessories, holding both a huge balance and a scythe.
The Judge of the Underworld, Anubis, had manifested!
"A-ANUBIS...?! LORD ANUBIS!"
Amuth-Ra poured all his remaining power into greeting his lord, only for Anubis to growl and roar with fury.
"AMUTH! YOU FOOLISH CHILD!"
"Huh?!"
Anubis charged forward, pummeling and kicking Amuth’s gigantic machine. It collapsed into the wasteland, crushing hundreds of Thebans beneath the wreckage.
"L-Lord Anubis...! What...! Why are you angry with me?!"
"YOU DARE INSULT AND ATTACK THE SAVIOR WHO AWAKENED ME FROM MY SLUMBER?! YOU DARE INSULT AND BERATE THE GREAT MOTHER OF SORROW?!"
"A-Ahhh! No, I mean...! S-She killed my son!"
"WHY SHOULD I CARE ABOUT YOUR USELESS SON?!"
Anubis struck the machine again. His divine power was unmatched, tearing the entire construct apart and sending shards of metal flying in every direction.
"P-Please have mercy, Lord Anubis! I was only doing it for you!"
"I DON’T CARE! I WILL SAVE OUR FAMILY’S FACE AND SLAY YOU MYSELF!"
"AAAAACK!"
Everyone watched in stunned silence as Amuth’s titanic machine was utterly destroyed. Anubis pulled him from the wreckage and devoured him.
The rest of the people inside perished in flames and explosions.
"HMPH... USELESS DESCENDANTS! PERHAPS I SHOULD START A NEW FAMILY AFTER ALL..."
Anubis crossed his arms and sighed. Then he turned, glaring at Maria, who smiled warmly and patted his enormous head.
"You’re a good puppy. Thank you for defending me, Anubis."
"M-MY SAVIOR! OF COURSE... MOTHER OF SORROW, HOW COULD I EVER REPAY YOU?!"
Anubis proved far different from what anyone expected. The reason was simple: when Maria awakened him, she infused him with her own Soul Essence, revealing her true heart and immense power.
He instantly recognized her as a powerful Outer Goddess and understood that his foolish descendants had gravely offended someone of her caliber. To preserve any remaining dignity, he chose to slay them himself.
After all, despite what their descendants believed, the Egyptian Gods of Thebes cared little for them and regarded them as lowly creatures.
"You’ve done enough," Maria said with a gentle smile. "However, isn’t it sad that they all died?"
"I... suppose..." Anubis groaned. "Not that I care! Hmph! Useless! All of them took far too long to revive me!"
"Don’t blame them," Maria replied. "They were misguided. Let us give them a second chance. Come on, spit him out."
"HMPH... GUUH...!"
Anubis spat out the pale corpse of Amuth-Ra. Maria then used her powers to "revive" him and all the others who had perished.
Even more astonishing, with her [Mechanical Repair: Lv10], she fully restored every destroyed machine, leaving Anubis in disbelief.
"Mother of Sorrow! You revived them all?! How... how vast is your power?!"
"They are now Undead, not technically revived," Maria explained. "But my level of Necromancy is so high that they appear completely alive. They even have warmth in their bodies, and their hearts beat once more."
"I-Its incredible! Magnificent! No power I possess could compare to yours!" he exclaimed.
"I think your Divinity could boost mine even further," Maria said. "Anubis, become my Spirit."
"S-Spirit?!"
Anubis gasped, his mouth falling open.
Though he had already accepted Maria as the supreme authority and bowed his head before her, being called a mere spirit still wounded his pride.
"My lady, I am far more than a mere spirit! I am a great god!" he protested, trying to preserve his dignity. "I can—"
"Huh? You’re talking back? I said you’re my spirit now. Understood?" Maria asked. Her eyes glowed red as she crossed her arms.
"YES MA’AM!"
Anubis dropped to his knees and lowered his head in submission.
As this unfolded, Amuth looked around, reuniting with his sons—even his youngest, Ameth-Ra. Everything was explained to him while he stared in awe at Maria and Anubis.
"I-I see...! The birth of a new goddess of death! So you must be Lord Anubis’s wife!" he exclaimed. "With him, you’ve blessed us with new, stronger bodies!"
"No, that’s not—"
"So that’s how it is!"
"All hail our new queen!"
"We don’t need Thebes anymore! Screw that place!"
The family adapted to their new reality with surprising speed. It was certainly better than their constant struggles against the other six families in Thebes.
"So now you cannot return... I wonder if we should leave them here?" Anubis mused.
"This planet is empty now, but still dangerous. Other members of Thebes could come and kill them," Maria explained. "You will all live inside my Soul Realm for the time being. I’ll grant you a territory and everything you need. There are many people there already, so behave yourselves. Anubis, you will live there too, but as my Spirit you can also appear and manifest within my Shadows."
"Perfect!" Anubis nodded eagerly. "I am so glad I can be with you in this new, smaller form, my great Mother of Sorrow!" 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
"Stop calling me that..." Maria rolled her eyes.
Maria checked her Spirits and found Anubis listed there, already at 100% Affection—though she had suspected as much.
She decided to leave the Machines in this world for now and summon them whenever needed. She also asked them to share all their knowledge about building and constructing machinery, as she was deeply interested.
At the same time, Maria gathered a substantial amount of EXP and finally advanced a single level, reaching Level 491.
