Reborn As A Ghost: Time To Build My Undead Army!-Chapter 1790: Floor 38, Mechthrone
-----
Floor 70, known as "Thebes," was a world of endless dunes and shimmering blue seas, where vegetation and fresh water remained painfully scarce. Here, the Ancient Egyptian Gods ruled the sands, the oases, the rivers, and the oceans. Over countless eons, they sired descendants among mortals, giving rise to the Seven Divine Families, each tracing its lineage to a different Ancient God.
Long ago, the Egyptian Gods clashed with a catastrophic force from within Thebes itself: Apophis, the Primordial Serpent of Chaos, who sought to devour the Sun. After a devastating war that nearly shattered their world, the surviving Gods fell into a deep, prolonged slumber. Their families waited patiently for the day of awakening, while the people of Thebes, wielding their inherited Divine Powers, climbed through the Tower’s Floors, conquering worlds and harvesting technology and magic to fortify their Unified Kingdoms.
Among them, the Anubis Family suffered the most. Their God had yet to fully awaken, and they struggled desperately to maintain their standing within the Tower. The world they once governed had been seized by the Family of Ra. Despite countless pleas, the Patriarch of the Anubis Household, Amuth-Ra, failed to persuade the Great Pharaoh—the Divine Ruler of Thebes and its ten conquered worlds—to return what was rightfully theirs.
"Amuth! Your faction is simply too weak now! You must focus on awakening Lord Anubis, or you will keep falling in the ranks!"
Those words struck Amuth-Ra like a thunderbolt. From that day forward, the Pharaoh never addressed him again.
In Thebes, strength, resources, wealth, authority, and dominion over many were valued above all else. The Gods remained eternal rivals, forever battling to expand their culture, their mortals, and their influence across the Tower.
Their ultimate ambition was nothing less than total conquest of the entire Tower.
Because of this, the Anubis Family was scorned as pathetic, reduced to nothing without their God’s full support, even as the other Gods had finally stirred from their long sleep.
Then came hope.
Through the efforts of Amuth-Ra’s third son, Ameth-Ra, fortune finally seemed to turn. The boy he had once dismissed as useless, banished into a distant world to scavenge resources and recruit warriors, had discovered something extraordinary.
In a bizarre realm where toys lived and ordinary humans towered as invulnerable giants, his overlooked son unearthed a treasure of unimaginable value.
The souls of those toys contained a rich, potent energy capable of fueling Lord Anubis’s awakening.
For nearly three years, Ameth-Ra tirelessly collected these cores and fed them to the slumbering God. The awakening progress had reached an astonishing 80%.
"We’re almost there... My foolish son, you turned out to be the most useful of all! I was wrong—you are brilliant! Once Lord Anubis awakens, I will grant you the second position in the family, right after me!"
Pride had begun to swell in Amuth-Ra’s chest. Though he maintained a stern facade to keep his once-lazy son from growing arrogant, he had come to genuinely appreciate the boy’s dedication. Ameth-Ra was on the verge of saving the entire family.
...Until everything collapsed.
One day ago.
"Father! Father, save me! They’re coming! A woman with white hair and red eyes! Aahhh! AAAAHHHH!"
BZZTTTT!
The final transmission ended in his son’s tortured screams as an unknown force slaughtered him and everyone with him.
Amuth-Ra stood frozen, unable to comprehend the loss.
Yet he could not remain idle while someone stole his pyramids, desecrated the Divine Tomb, and murdered his child.
From informants, he learned the culprit was a woman named "Maria." She and her family had been hired by the Toykin to exact revenge on his son.
Every outpost Ameth-Ra had built lay in ruins. Worse still, almost nothing remained—not the shattered pyramids, not the fortresses, not even the corpses.
Everything had been taken.
Recognizing the scale of the threat, the Patriarch of the Anubis Household acted swiftly. Leveraging old connections on Floor 38, he secured the aid of that world’s colossal Machine forces. In exchange for a share of the spoils and permission to expand their armies into new worlds, the Machine Overlords agreed to help him ambush Maria, avenge his son, and reclaim the stolen Divine Tomb.
The next morning, after a few frightened Player Parties were quickly driven away, a woman matching every description, photograph, and video stepped out of the portal with her group—whom she called her "family."
Amuth-Ra greeted her with the full might of his Household: his two remaining sons, his twelve Flying Pyramids, and the four Machine Overlords, each commanding armies numbering up to one million machines.
"She’s here! I can sense the power of Anubis within her! Retrieve the Divine Tomb! Avenge Ameth-Ra!"
His grand Pyramid transformed, absorbing his Divinity and reshaping into a towering, muscular mechanical Anubis armed with enormous golden scythes and cloaked in living shadows.
The combined forces surged forward.
Ferleen and Melianna screamed in shock and terror, while Maria paused, momentarily taken aback by the sheer scale of the army.
Then she smiled.
She was calm, almost serene.
She pierced her own chest and drew forth a long, katana-like blade forged from abyssal shadows, dream-born stars, and ghostly energies.
"Good. I needed a warmup."
As countless machines thundered toward her, shaking the entire world, Maria swung her sword before any of her family could react.
Her Sword Soul Heart unleashed its perfected might, refined hundreds of thousands of times.
Her soul remained the sharpest in the Tower.
{Spectral Ghostly Fist Art: Ninth Form – Dream Chasing Star Blade}!
SLAAASH!
A single devastating horizontal slash of pure sword ki erupted.
RUMBLE!
Hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands of machines were cleaved apart. Chaotic flames exploded outward, melting their wreckage into slag.
Massive detonations rippled across the vast wasteland.
Maria had barely glimpsed this world before being forced into battle, yet she already understood: humanity had long vanished here. Machines now ruled, and the crumbling ruins of human civilization served as the last fading testament to their existence.
"W-Wha...?!" The giant Anubis machine staggered backward. Inside, Amuth-Ra trembled.
"What is your name?" Maria asked, gazing upward. "Wait... I know who you are. Amuth-Ra. Ameth’s father, correct?"
"Y-YOU MONSTER...! YOU KILLED MY SON AND STOLE MY GOD! GIVE THEM BACK!!!"
Roaring with grief and rage, the vengeful father poured every drop of his Divine Power into the colossal machine and charged.
Behind him, two smaller Anubis-like mechs followed—one gleaming white adorned with vibrant jewels, the other black and gold, bristling with massive arms and shoulder-mounted cannons.
"She’s the one who killed our little brother?!"
"Ameth may have been lazy and worthless, but he didn’t deserve that!"
His eldest sons, Amith and Amath, burned with fury.
Maria turned her gaze toward the four surviving Machine Overlords and the millions of machines that had endured her first strike.
They were transforming, fusing with their forces, growing larger. One became a towering metallic T-Rex, another a heavily armored humanoid, the third a blazing mechanical phoenix, and the fourth a graceful woman of metal with flowing hair of glowing white wires.
"Oh my, we skip straight to bed without even getting to know each other? You’re all so eager—it’s almost embarrassing!"
She exploded into lightning and vanished, blitzing through thousands of machines every second, carving them apart.
{Spectral Ghostly Fist Art: Eleventh Form – Nightmare Soul Blade Dance}!
SLASH! SLASH! SLASH! SLASH!
Her sword energy tore through hundreds of thousands until more than a million machines lay destroyed before her.
"WHAT SORT OF MONSTER IS THIS?!"
"SHE... KILLED A MILLION...?!"
"THIS DOES NOT COMPUTE!"
"KILL HER!"
The four Overlords charged, their auras crackling with electromagnetic fury as dozens of cores overloaded their frames with power.
Missiles, electric beams, and even a small nuclear warhead rained down on her simultaneously.
BOOOM! BOOOM! BOOOM! BOOOM!
A cataclysmic explosion swallowed the wasteland. The shockwave hurled hundreds of thousands of machines into the air.
Yet when the dust cleared...
Maria stood at the heart of the blast, unscathed.
Her dress was slightly charred, revealing glimpses of flawless white skin beneath, but the fabric swiftly regenerated.
"Was that a nuke? Thank you for the test—I’m tougher than I thought. Though it smells awful."
The Machine Overlords froze, retreating several steps.
Amuth-Ra glared at them in fury.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! KILL HER!"
But within their cold logic cores, no viable strategy remained.
A being who survived a direct nuclear strike from four Overlords combined?
Impossible.
No technology they possessed could harm her.
Their only hope lay in saturating the area with even more atomic weapons.
But only the Phoenix carried additional warheads.
"We cannot defeat her."
"Retreat immediately!"
"HQ, prepare all nuclear stockpiles. Target her."
"Do the same, homebase."
The four Overlords withdrew, sacrificing waves of smaller machines—humanoid, beast-like, giant—to bombard her with endless missiles.
Yet in an instant—
FLASH!
"Where do you think you’re going?"
"NGH?!"
Maria’s blade sliced clean through the Phoenix Overlord, shattering dozens of cores and reducing it to scrap.
"NGAAAHHHH!"
BOOOM!
She transformed into a dragonfly of pure lightning, pursuing the remaining three and carving them apart one after another.
SLASH! SLASH! SLASH!
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Even so, the Overlords had already backed up their consciousnesses to distant bases.
Dozens of nuclear missiles streaked toward her.
Amuth-Ra and his sons ordered a full retreat.
"Hahah... Hahahahaha!"
Maria laughed as wave after wave of atomic fire engulfed her in apocalyptic infernos, scorching the earth and carving craters deep into the planet’s crust.
The Overlords emptied their entire nuclear arsenals.
Yet moments later—
"How adorable."
Maria rose into the sky, mouth open wide. She inhaled the radiation, the toxic clouds, the raging flames, cleansing the battlefield in a single breath.
"Hm, that was quite delicious. Do you have more? I feel... strangely invigorated."
A new power stirred within her: the Nuclear Element.
It manifested as gleaming white radioactive crystals, virulent green miasma, poisonous gases, toxic fumes, and emerald fire.
"Let’s see... Their bases are over there? Perfect."
She raised both hands skyward.
Four immense spheres of compressed radioactive energy formed—miniature green suns.
"{Atomic Nova}!"
Fusing the Nuclear Element with magic, Maria conjured the devastating spell four times.
The miniature suns streaked across the globe, striking the hidden bases.
BOOOMMM!!!
RUMBLE!
The planet shuddered violently.
The remaining machines halted, leaderless and directionless.
"And that’s that," Maria said, dusting off her hands. "This world belongs to me now. Machines, you can die fighting me, or you can serve me. Choose."
She had assumed she could not bind them with phantasmal chains or raise them as Undead without souls.
...She had never tried.
"Arise."
With a casual wave, ghostly auras surged around the wreckage of the four Machine Overlords. They reassembled, infused with spectral power.
"Oh, it works. Nice."
At her command, every machine she had destroyed rose again as Undead Machines.
The surviving "living" machines quickly understood resistance was futile. One by one, they knelt before her.
"Good. Now, where were we?"
Maria turned.
Behind her, her family was already crushing the Anubis Household with terrifying ease.
"HAAAAAH!"
Lucifer roared, overwhelming the black Anubis mech. The eldest son was hurled to the ground. Blazing dragon fists tore the machine apart in seconds.
"NGAAAAHHH! FATHEEEER!"
The pilot’s scream cut short as Lucifer crushed the cockpit, detonating the core and incinerating the man inside.
BOOOM!
"N-No...!"
Amuth-Ra’s despair deepened. He could not believe how utterly they were being crushed.
Maria had proven a threat beyond anything Thebes had ever encountered. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
And he had been foolish enough to challenge her.
"FATHER, SAVE MEEEEE!"
His remaining son met a swift, brutal end. Partner impaled the mech with her twin spears, ripping it open before piercing the pilot’s body again and again, riddling him with holes until both man and machine erupted in flames.
BOOOM!
