Reborn: The Return of the Villainous Mr. Liu-Chapter 1135: The lost sister
Guiying could only stare at her, utterly perplexed and lost.
"W-What are you talking about?"
Though Guiying didn’t want to, she couldn’t stop herself from getting hurt and slightly irked by Alix’s words. In her mind, it was still Alix talking to her. She pressed her lips hard.
"Please...please don’t talk about Zhan Yahui that way," she clasped her trembling fingers together, tears threatening to bring her eyes. "I know people might see it as something meaningless, but for me it’s the only way I feel close to her..."
"Why do you want to be close to somebody like me? I only used you for my benefit."
Guiying stared.
"Why are you talking like that?"
"Because the woman whose office you kept cleaning for seven years now is right in front of you."
Alix properly turned to her and peered into her eyes. She parted her lips and the words flowed, slowly and steadily as she caught every change in her expression.
"I know it’s a lot to take in," she quietly said.
"Do you...do you think th-this is some kind of a joke?" Her voice quivered with indignation.
"Do you think I will pull this kind of crappy prank on my wedding day?"
Guiying froze. The mannerism, the tone, the arch of her brows - everything felt and looked just like her. It wasn’t the first time she had felt that way. There were instances before when Alix and Zhan Yahui felt too uncanny to feel as different people. She had also felt this strange pull towards her often as if she had known her for a long time.
But Guiying never paid attention to it. She simply attributed it to the fact that Alix and Yahui might share similar personality traits. But now that she was listening to something unbelievable, her heart was nudging her to believe her instinct.
Yet equally, for Yahui to be alive was outside the realm of possibility.
"Okay, maybe telling you on my wedding day wasn’t such a good idea," Alix grimaced to herself. "I know I took a long time but only because I thought you didn’t need me."
"It’s not possible...!" She breathed hard, feeling dizzy.
After coming to terms with the fact that Yahui was no more, she was now facing the same mentor and sister she adored?
"I’m not joking with you," Alix said with all seriousness. "I hadn’t expected that my absence would have so much effect on you. But now that I do, do you think I would lie about something like this just to make you feel miserable?"
Tears brimmed her eyes and she was at a loss.
"You can ask me anything you want if you want me to prove myself. I haven’t lost my memory."
She trembled, a choke caught in her throat. Countless emotions swirled within her.
Alix grimaced. "Gosh, you are still a crybaby like the time we first met. I thought that part of your personality would have finally changed. You-"
Suddenly, Guiying ran to hug her, burying her face in her shoulder.
"P-please...tell the truth..." her voice quivered. "Please...I don’t want this to be a dream...I-I won’t be able to hold myself together again if..if this turned out to be a lie."
Alix remained silent for a long moment. Then she said, "I read your book."
It was the same book she had read during her honeymoon trip, quietly in the corner of a library while Jin patiently waited for her.
"You did well."
Guiying stared ahead, her misty eyes aching. It were the same three words Yahui used to compliment her with whenever Guiying did something really well. Those sincere words were her motivation to keep improving, just to be able to hear her adore her and see the soft pride in her eyes.
The sincerity with which Alix said those words now felt just like the past...
"You made a good name for yourself," Alix hesitated at first but then softly placed her hand on her shoulder, clearing her throat awkwardly.
"You...you are really here...?" Guiying’s voice turned small into a whisper.
"Yes."
"H-How...? You were...you ki..." She closed her eyes, unable to complete that train of thought.
Alix released a long breath. "It’s a...long story. But trust me. I’m...Zhan Yahui. It’s a miracle, yes. It’s hard to believe, yes, but the truth remains."
Guiying’s eyes widened and she withdrew in panic. "B-But what about Liu Jin...? The Liu family..."
"Jin knows and the Liu family too."
She stared at her in disbelief. "How could you...Why didn’t you ever tell me?"
Though Guiying was trying to process too many emotions at once, it didn’t change the fact that she was coming to know in the end where she believed she deserved to know before anybody else.
"I had no plans of ever revealing it to Jin either but..." she slightly coughed, "he had confessed to me one day. I thought the only thing to make him back off was telling him the truth about my identity."
Guiying’s lips parted in disbelief. "He knows and he s-still..."
After Zhan Yahui’s past deeds, Guiying found it hard to digest that the Liu family would accept her for who she was.
"He is a very stubborn man and once upon a time, a piece of shit. He has upgraded from that title now."
Guiying was also aware of the circumstances in which they had gotten married, so if Jin had made a contract with her knowing who she was, then there was nothing else to prove how sincerely Jin wanted her.
"B-But the family...are they really choosing to let go of..."
Worry was natural for her. Her thought process matched what Hou Lin held when he first came to know about Jin’s feelings. Just like him, she absolutely didn’t want Alix to suffer under the weight of the past mistakes and with a family that would only keep resenting her.
"They are just as crazy as him. I have nothing more to say."
Tears plopped down her cheeks.
"Look, I cannot do more with your tears anymore..." Alix pressed her lips.
Guiying only broke down further. "Do you...have any idea how much I missed you? I felt so lonely without you..."
