Chapter 611: Chapter 611: Lonely At The Top

"Eleanor hesitated because of the appearance of the Primordial Peacock.

She already had the Primordial Fox in her possession and knew very well that she would never be able to get this Primordial Peacock from Kael’s possession even if she wanted to.

But she still hesitated.

And that hesitation cost her.

The arkships that came out of the heavenly gate got very close and their attacks became more intense.

At the same time, the power boost from the Sacrifice of the Elders was beginning to fade away and Eleanor was returning to her original self.

Realizing this, Eleanor snapped out of her stupor and chose to escape first. She could already hear the voices of the elders decreasing in volume inside her mind.

She didn’t have much time.

Alas...

Eleanor turned around and found that she was surrounded. At some point during her hesitation, some arkships had flown around to corner her.

She looked around her and saw that at least three arkships were facing her from all directions.

She slashed forward with her wings, using the last bits of power she had left to send out a fiery wing slash that hit two arkships.

One of the arkships was severely damaged with its barrier shattered and its exterior burned. The other arkship survived with minimal damage and continued to recover.

The retaliation was fierce.

One cannon blast after another rained upon Eleanor, each expertly avoiding her head and going for her body.

Eleanor tried to defend herself, pulling her wings up and shielding her vitals.

But the lion kings did not care, they kept firing and firing.

Eleanor was resistant, but she wasn’t invincible.

Her wings began to ache; her power began to awaken, and she began to shrink.

And as she shrank, the pain from each cannon blast became more and more unbearable.

Then, out of desperation, she tried to force her way out of the encirclement. This was a big mistake as multiple Lion Kings took the opportunity to focus their blasts on one of her wings.

Within a few seconds, a hole was blasted into Eleanor’s wings. The joints that held her wings to her torso were gone completely.

Hot blood spilled into the void, burning with the echo of the might of a Phoenix.

No one could hear Eleanor’s physical screams due to the vacuum of space, but many could hear the agonizing cries that spread via telepathy.

She was suffering now.

Was her fate sealed?

With just one wing left. Eleanor leveled her vicious gaze at the arkships and the pompous lion kings within.

She would rather die trying than sit still and wait for death.

She had a vision for her race. Even if she couldn’t fulfill it, she had come this close.

She didn’t want to give up just yet, there was so much they could do if they made it out of here.

"Wait, don’t kill her!" Ivana who had been bound to the giant Phoenix’s forehead suddenly exclaimed.

Her telepathy was very weak and could not reach the minds of many who hoped to hear it.

Only the lion kings who were controlling the arkships and had been focusing their amplified senses on the Phoenix could hear it.

Although they were surprised, they did not listen to her. First of all, she was a fox. Even if she was a Primordial Fox, she was still a fox.

Listening to her was no different from a king taking orders from lesser life forms. So dishonorable.

Secondly, they had already received a higher order.

"Kill it,"

Kael’s cold command was plastered to their faces in bold golden words from the chat of the lion system.

Nothing else needed to be said, just the little reward and the percentage increase in their Lionhood Bar from doing this, was enough motivation for them.

Inside the chamber of command of his arkship, Kael’s muscular hands were folded against his wide chest.

His beautiful golden eyes stared coldly at the screen, watching as the giant Phoenix was besieged from all sides.

He quickly accepted the reality that Vixy was dead.

He didn’t feel particularly sad, no, he was moving beyond that feeling.

But he recognized the loss. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

Vixy, as annoying as she was, was still a very valuable and manipulative subordinate. Whether anyone liked it or not, she had helped Kael during his early days.

To see someone go just like that. Kael had always imagined that he would be the one to kill Vixy himself.

After all, he was expecting her to make a serious blunder one day, and if she hadn’t been burnt to ashes not long ago, that would have most likely happened.

*Sigh!*

Kael sighed, the glow of his eyes became mellow and got deeper with added depths.

Once again, Kael had taken another step in embodying the Law of Conquering after comprehending all that had happened.

Life and death were so uncertain.

Kael would have to get used to the reality of the fact that anyone around him could die at any moment.

There was so little he could control this aspect and he knew it.

What could he possibly do? Create defensive barriers around everyone useful to him?

No, he couldn’t.

More may die if the circumstances fit.

First it was Exalon, now it was Vixy?

How many more will have to die before he reaches the apex? How many more will be sacrificed for him to achieve his goals?

If he could just let go of everything... if he could just give up...

*Growl!*

A deep inhumane growl escaped Kael’s lips. He rejected that thought firmly and ruthlessly crushed the idea away from his mind.

Such impure thoughts disgusted him.

If he were an ordinary creature who still operated on the ordinary emotional spectrum, he might have seriously considered it.

He knew the alternative, he was aware of his options.

He could just give up right now, he knew that. But it wouldn’t change anything.

He would still be a slave to the whims of the universe.

Kael affirmed his will and Conqueror’s Intent.

So what if many more were to die? As long as he could achieve his goals, he would tolerate more and more losses.

The only thing that would vex him was if those losses were in vain.

Kael did not want to lose valuable people around him for nothing.

The All-King had set his sights on the peak, and he was perfectly fine with being lonely at the top.

One cannot be lonely at the top if one is not at the top in the first place.

*Clank!*

Kael’s ears twitched, he turned his heavy gaze to the Primordial Peacock crawling on the ground next to him.
