Chapter 650: Chapter 650: The Unknown

A stream of water shot forth, crossing hundreds of metres in an instant. Wei was in a diving stance within this stream of water, using her powers to accelerate continuously as she tried to get as far away from what was chasing her as fast as possible.

As she rode the artificial waves she had created, her eyes constantly flashed with intense flickering, and gold dots began to appear around her. The connection was getting stronger.

In her attempt to escape, she left behind a stream of soaked sand that would not even be visible, given how dark the whole world was.

The lights that were dimly shining from a distance were being put out one after the other.

The world trembled as the monster chased.

The aura Wei could feel from the sand below caused her heart to sink to the bottom of her stomach.

She couldn’t read it, she couldn’t assess it, she couldn’t quite tell if it was tier 6 or higher.

But it was fast.

She had only started trying to run away for ten seconds and the entity was already directly behind her.

So fast.

It was a mystery how the sands did not melt away after a solid entity moved again through them at supersonic speeds. It was as if the being did not follow the laws of physics at all.

It followed its own Law.

Wei was quick to understand that she would never be able to outrun this frightening existence, whatever it was.

The Conqueror’s Intent and the foreign consciousness within her surged all of a sudden, dropping intrusive thoughts into her mind.

The stream of water collapsed and Wei who was now in the process of transforming into her true form dropped to the ground.

With the aid of a body now being enhanced by Conquering Essence, she turned around, stomped her scaled paw on the sandy ground, and roared.

Her eyes burst out with golden light as the roar reverberated across the region.

A golden light pillar rose from her body, creating a radiation of water molecules that momentarily blocked what was about to devour her.

*BAM!*

Sand and dust exploded everywhere as something slammed into the solidifying golden water dome that appeared around Wei.

A loud shriek slammed into Wei’s chest, rattling her lungs and aiding in her struggle to breathe.

Now, the world has gotten so dark that she could even see anything beyond the golden water dome around her.

She was guided by the foreign will in her mind, telling her the exact duration for any movement she wanted to make.

She had to listen.

This was a creature with power far surpassing hers. How she was even able to defend herself in these short few seconds was only due to the intervention of the All-King.

With Conquering Essence now running through her veins, Wei had become a host for the Conqueror’s Avatar Mode.

The sound of sickening clicks that touched upon the doors of her mind resounded in the air.

Every sound this creature made seemed designed to destroy her psyche and make her break down.

Fortunately, Kael’s supporting consciousness was easily overriding these side effects, bringing a superior state of calmness to Wei.

"You...are...not...welcoming!" A hissing voice faded into the wind and was transmitted to Wei’s ears.

The moment she heard it, her joints shook and she nearly crumbled.

She was failing. Her spirit was strong, but her flesh was insufferably weak.

Kael couldn’t do anything about this weakness, he could only cook up a swift strategy on the spot for extraction.

Then, Connection Essence mixed with Conquering Essence flowed into Wei’s body.

The monster that was trying to devour Wei must be able to sense the essence of foreign laws as it immediately screeched out to express its ghostly fury.

With the Conquering Essence mixing with the Connection Essence, Wei’s body acted as a beacon for the Lion System.

Around the planet, whether drifting across the desert surface or hiding in the subterranean cities, the lionesses who had been in worse states because of fear were suddenly jolted to an alert state.

Golden screens appeared in front of them and with that came the invasion of the Conqueror’s Intent as well as the arrival of the All-King’s full consciousness.

*SCREEEEEECH!*

*BAM!*

Wei’s water dome was slashed open.

A greyish-black spike shot toward her head, aiming to create a hole between her eyes.

Alas, it was for naught.

Kael had already gotten what he wanted.

The location.

He never intended to save anyone, he was just interested in pinpointing their exact location.

And with the strange aura of a Primordial that he could sense in the atmosphere, he could draw some conclusions and decide which place this was.

As for the lionesses wherever they were. They were starting to regain their fearlessness.

All at once, they became instruments for Kael’s probing, feeling the scream of Conquering Essence flowing inside their bodies.

They were filled with so much confusion that they roared, thankful that the All-King was on their side.

And then.

It was gone.

The golden screens vanished from their view and the might that made them feel like they could face the world alone was gone as quickly as it came.

What was this?

Was the All-King abandoning them? Some of them thought.

Meanwhile, Wei could only watch helplessly as that black insect-like spike shot toward her head.

She was too slow to dodge but her brain was advanced enough to process the speed of the incoming attack.

In the next few milliseconds, she would be dead. Just as Wei was preparing herself for her demise, a strong force pulled her body from behind.

The suction force was short and powerful, as soon as she felt the foreign force on her body, the heavenly gate which had appeared at some point closed in front of her.

The black insect-like spike that was aimed at her head was cut off but the terrifying sharpness of the space in between the heavens.

Wei’s body was slammed into the ground and the insect-like spike continued with its momentum, flying past her head.

*BOOM!*

The sound of an object breaking the sound barrier shook the cool ground she lay on.

That sound.

It wasn’t the insect-like spike that broke that sound barrier.

Her senses were still alert even though she had not yet assessed where she was.

Wei rolled on the floor and entered an attack stance, looking at the two entities that had been behind her.

As soon as Wei saw the two figures not far from her, her eyes widened a little.

On the left was the All-King, his eyes closed and he was sitting cross-legged in the air with his hands placed gently on his knees.

He looked rather peaceful at this moment compared to the intimidating and dominant presence others talked about.

Standing next to him with both of her hands crossed behind her back was Katari, wearing a simple black gown with a V-shaped neck that exposed a little of her chest.

"All...All-King..." Wei whispered.

The two eyelids of Kael’s opened gradually, revealing his golden irises once again to the whole world.

Wei was captivated by Kael’s presence, she was like a fan that finally met her music idol, she was struggling to control her excitement while asking herself if all this was real.

Her eyes drifted down, practically drooling over his body from his muscular chest to his arm.

That was when she noticed that one of Kael’s arms was outstretched and he was holding something in his left hand.

It was the insect-like black spike.

Kael held it firmly in his grasp. From the way he held it, it seemed like the spike’s trajectory would have led it straight to Kael’s chest.

So Kael simply caught it.

It didn’t look like he was stressed by the action. It was casual.

What was even more shocking was the realization that Kael had caught this spike before he opened his eyes.

And that sonic boom she heard, it was the sound of Kael’s arm moving so fast that it broke the natural sound barrier of Leonine Heaven.

Kael looked at the spike in his hand, observing it with a lot of nonchalance. This was a part of the body of a powerful Primordial.

Perhaps, this was the most powerful Primordial he had ever encountered besides Elizabeth.

He hadn’t been able to see or make out the exact features of that creature but he suspected that it was likely to bear some resemblance to a centipede.

Kael acknowledged the Primordial’s method of battle, capitalizing on the fear of the unknown to make its powers most effective.

Besides the fear of failure and the fear of death, the fear of the unknown was also among the top three fears of any living creature.

Kael then looked at the golden screen that appeared in front of him. The identity marks of the lionesses had all gone dark, the connection was lost.

It was very likely that all those lionesses would soon suffer greatly before they died, but Kael didn’t mind. Their sacrifices would not be in vain, it was just another means for his cause to be fulfilled.

"Katari, we may now have our first target for Project Desolate Divine," Kael calmly stated to Katari.
