REINCARNATION OF THE STRONGEST WAR HERO-Chapter 109: DEATH’S DOOR
Chapter 109: DEATH’S DOOR
Tap! Tap! Tap!
Three people were walking down a corridor carved from stone with a woman in the middle.
Her eyes were blindfolded.
Mirena.
After a short walk, they reached a large hall.
From there, they entered a narrow tunnel through a gate.
Tap! Tap! Tap!
Their footsteps echoed again as they moved deeper.
Soon, they reached a cave-like room.
The walls were rough and made of jagged stone.
It looked ancient and untouched by time.
In the center of the room, there was an elderly man sitting in a lotus position on a slab of black stone.
Beside him stood another man
As the three emerged from the tunnel,
the standing man turned around at the sound of their arrival.
It was Elder Edward.
Edward gave a small gesture with his hand,
and both Zereth and the other man quietly stepped back, fading into the tunnel behind them.
Their retreating footsteps echoed faintly—
and just from that sound,
Mirena could tell that those two who brought her here had left her alone.
A cold tension coiled inside her.
Sweat drops were dripping down her forehead, trailing along her cheek.
Her heart trembled faster. She wanted to shout and escape this place right then.
But just when she was almost near going crazy, a voice echoed through the room.
"You can take off your blindfold."
Startled, Mirena quickly untied the cloth with trembling hands.
As the darkness cleared from her eyes,
she saw the two figures in front of her clearly.
One stood tall—probably the one whose voice she had just heard.
The other was a old man sitting still on the black slab.
His back was turned toward her.
Edward stepped closer and leaned near the old man. Then he whispered into his ear. "She has arrived."
The old man moved slightly—that small motion felt like an ancient building shifting under the weight of an earthquake. He looked that ancient.
The old man slowly stood up and turned to face Mirena.
Now, she could finally see his face.
He looked old. Too old—almost like a walking corpse. But his eyes... they were different.
They weren’t dull or lifeless. They were sharp. Cold. Predatory. Filled with malice—like a beast sizing up its prey.
He spoke, and his rough, gravelly voice echoed through the room.
"So, you are Mirena Stevens. Daughter of Arthur Stevens and first wife of Rudeous Smith."
His words weren’t a question. They were a statement.
"Y-yes..." Mirena stammered.
She was usually calm and composed—even when carrying heavy burdens.
But standing in front of this old man, her usual confidence crumbled.
The man narrowed his eyes.
"Then why don’t you tell me everything about Logan Smith? And I mean everything." The old man’s voice echoed again.
Mirena didn’t even think about lying.
"He’s the son of Rudeous and Alice," she said quickly, like a bird chirping in fear.
"He’s very talented. He developed his mana core at the age of five. But I had it sealed for a long time... untill he beat Zereth. And as I didn’t want to make an enemy out him, I had Rudeous unsealed it again. T-that’s all I know."
Mirena didn’t even like Logan in the first place, so no way she would risk her life for someone like Logan, whom she wanted gone from her life badly.
"What?! At five?!"
The old man’s eyes widened.
He had already heard from Edward that Logan was strong—but forming a mana core at five?
That still shocked him gravely.
He paused for a moment to collect himself.
Then asked again, voice sharper than before...
"And what about the secret training method?"
"Secret method?" Mirena blinked. "You mean... black magic?" ƒreewebɳovel.com
Before she could say more—
The old man raised a hand.
And in the next instant, Mirena was lifted off the ground.
She flew through the air and slammed into his grip.
His bony fingers wrapped around her throat.
He spoke again, his voice was low this time but filled with malice and threat.
"If you lie... you will die. I will give you one more chance. Tell me the truth. Tell me everything about his secret technique."
He then tightened his grip around her throat, just enough to intimidate her. He thought Mirena was lying to him.
"I... I really don’t know what you’re talking about... I swear...." She struggled to get the words out, choking with every syllable.
The old man’s eyes narrowed, filled with fury.
"Didn’t you ask Zereth for help? Because that boy—Logan—defeated your son in a duel even with a sealed mana core. And your son who already had three elemental affinities could barely touch him? You want me to believe you thought of it as only black magic and nothing else?"
As he spoke, he squeezed his hands harder.
The pressure around her neck grew unbearable.
Mirena tried to respond, but nothing came out.
Her mouth opened, her lips trembled—but no sound.
Her eyes bulged as if they might burst from her skull.
Her face turned deep red due to the suffocation.
The old man had completely lost his temper.
He wanted that secret technique badly and was in no mood for playing detective.
From the side, Edward suddenly stepped forward and requested,
"Master! I think she’s telling the truth!"
"She wanted to kill that boy! Why would she risk her own life for him?"
But the old man snapped in rage,
"You know nothing!"
That entire family is trying to keep this secret to themselves!
That’s why she won’t talk. But I’ll make her talk—"
And with that, he tightened his grip even more.
Mirena was now at death’s door.
Her limbs were twitching.
She regretted everything at that moment.
Ever asking Zereth for help, coming here even after her cousin warned her. But she didn’t have anyother option either. What she only wanted was her son’s future. Was that a crime? She was consumed by despair at that moment.
Was she really going to die just like this?!
But suddenly the old man opened his grip. And she thudded on the ground.
