Since Dunn feels like this thing shouldn't be delayed, he plans to meet Johann tonight at his own mansion.

Everything is expected to go smoothly. He knows the ins and outs of Johann's mansion like the back of his hand.

Having spent countless hours tending to the gardens and observing the goings-on of the estate, he also knows about the rest of the mansion in the estate.

....

The grandfather clock in Dunn's dormitory struck midnight. Its chime reverberates through the silent halls.

At this time, most have fallen asleep except him.

Dunn slipped out of his dormitory.

Under the cover of darkness, he slipped past the patrol guards unnoticed and covered the distance that separated his dormitory and Johann's mansion.

It was a piece of cake for him.

Before he knew it, the mansion loomed in front of him.

Dunn casually entered the mansion. Nobody knows where or which rat hole he used to enter but he didn't meet any resistance while doing so.

Inside, the mansion's corridors stretched like veins, dimly lit and echoing with the faint sounds of the night.

It was grandeur but he felt like this place was a bit lifeless.

Utilizing his knowledge of the mansion's layout, Dunn navigated the corridor with ease. He knows which room belongs to whom and what room its purpose is.

Perhaps he knows better than some servants who work here.

This is not an exaggeration. Many servants working in nobles' residences had a very restrained attitude. They won't do anything outside of their job scope.

Although working for the nobles is a glorious thing for commoners, their place is riddled with pitfalls. One wrong move today and they might be dead on next day.

After a short walk, Dunn found himself standing before Johann's bedroom door.

The spy didn't rush to get in. He takes a moment to assess his surroundings for any potential threats. It would be bad if he got caught.

Satisfied that the coast was clear, he shifted his focus to his appearance.

He smoothing out any wrinkles in his finely tailored suit and adjusted the silver cufflinks adorning his sleeves.

Tonight, he wears formal clothing. Since he going to meet a client, his image represents the image of their organization. Wearing casual clothes would severely impact SIN's reputation and make one question their professionalism.

Despite his age and commoner background, he understood the importance of making a strong impression.

Dunn firmly grip on the brass handle, turned the knob and pushed the door open. He stepped into Johann's bedroom with a sense of anticipation.

The old spy had imagined the look of surprise on Johann's face as he entered. But to his disappointment, the room was empty.

"Where is that man?" Dunn said it aloud. Since there was no one inside to hear him, he didn't concern himself with the noise he made.

He looked around the room and took note of its furnishings and decor. It was a typical bedroom, similar to many he had entered before.

The bed was grand, with a canopy overhead, and the walls adorned with portraits.

A common feature.

Nothing extraordinary about the decoration which is kind of funny when he thinks about it.

All nobles compete with one another to show off their possession and uniqueness. But, in reality, there are not many differences among themselves.

Dunn pulled out the ornate chair tucked under the desk and settled into its cushioned seat. The wood groaned softly due to his weight.

He adjusted himself, leaning back slightly and crossing one leg over the other.

Tick tock—

Tick tock—

Time is ticking. Dunn patiently waits for Johann to make his appearance.

In the meantime, he began to hum a tune softly. It was a good way to soothe his heart from the previously build up tension.

"Hmm~ Hmm~," Dunn hummed. He tapped his fingers against the armrest of the chair. His eyes slowly drifted towards the window where the moon cast its glow.

Before he realized it, an hour had passed in the blink of an eye. The realization jolted Dunn from the comfortable seat. His patience wearing thin.

"Where is he?!" Dunn asked with so much frustration in his voice. "Doesn't he know it is already time to go to sleep?"

It was supposed to be a dramatic scene where he arrived on behalf of SIN, calming Johann's heart with words of comfort and offering the old noble a cooperative relationship.

That way, the old noble would feel grateful and confident about his choice.

Creak-

Suddenly, the door was pushed open. Dunn was caught off-guard by the sudden development and left with no time to choose his posture.

'Damnit! A blunder!' Dunn cursed himself.

"Who are you?!" Johann's voice boomed. His eyes widened because an intruder was standing in his bedroom.

Dunn didn't bother to talk. Instead, he rushed forward and covered Johann's mouth.

"Shhh!"

Forget about making himself look like a mysterious agent who suddenly appears in the dark, Dunn now is no different from the pathetic robber who was caught red-handed.

Johann's protests were muffled by Dunn's firm grip. His eyes flashed with confusion and anger as he struggled to free himself.

"Stop struggling! I'm not a bad guy!" said Dunn.

Johann stares blankly at Dunn. His eyes said everything that was on his mind. 'Who would believe your words?'

Seeing his effort bore no result, Dunn reached into his pocket and retrieved a small, white rectangular card. He flashed it in front of Johann.

Johann saw the card and instantly recognized it. Only then did the old noble stop struggling.

At that moment, the tension in the room started to dissipate.

Dunn slowly released his grip on Johann's mouth. However, he maintains a close distance between them. If Johann decided to suddenly shout, he would have a difficult time.

The spy cautiously took a step back. "I'm here on behalf of SIN. The news of an unfortunate event befalled you has reached our ears. We are willing to offer our help to you."
