Chapter 707: Chapter 707. Waiting for a Chance

"Evil heretical art," Mu Qin uttered with a disgusted tone as the ghost apparitions surged toward her.

"You got the nerve to say that, demon!" Zhang Daofeng exclaimed as he approached Mu Qin. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

The ghostly apparitions had a homing ability. Sura had them locked onto Mu Qin. Mu Qin used her wind blades to destroy the apparitions. The wind blades easily sliced the apparitions. However, the apparitions weren’t destroyed. They quickly reassembled themselves as if nothing had happened.

Though Mu Qin’s wind blades couldn’t destroy the ghostly apparitions, these apparitions also couldn’t touch her. They kept getting blown away by the wind shield that swirled around her. Nevertheless, these apparitions continued chasing her. Thus, they became a marker that revealed her true position. The illusions produced by her movement art became useless. This allowed Zhang Daofeng and the other Lord cultivators to target her again.

"What are they...?" Xan Chi asked Sura Yao.

"They are soul attacks produced by a martial art I created that utilizes my special constitution," Sura Yao explained. "I call the art Death Festival. It devours the souls of those who are near death or have recently died to create ghosts that haunt a target I mark. The one touched by those ghosts will have its life force slowly extracted."

"Incredible. You truly deserve your title," Xan Chi praised.

"Those ghosts cannot touch her, though," Sura said.

"It allows us to pinpoint her. That’s enough for now. She can no longer slay us with impunity. How long does this art of yours last?"

"It depends on the souls I draw them from. Since most here are either Mystic or Spirit Stage, they should last for some time, but won’t be longer than twenty minutes."

"Then let’s go, we shouldn’t waste time," Xan Chi said. His muscles bulged with many visible red veins. He was wounded when he blocked Mu Qin’s wind darts. These wounds triggered his Rage Blood special constitution.

They were about to lunge forward, but Amon’s voice halted their attempt.

"Sura! Xan Chi! Hold!"

Xan Chi turned to Amon and asked. "Why?"

"Attacking blindly won’t get us anywhere," Amon answered. "Leave the dying to those simple-minded people. We will act once I see an opportunity. I will need both your strength then. Stay with me and wait for my signal."

After knowing Mu Qin’s position, Zhang Daofeng reassumed his role as Mu Qin’s primary opponent. With many Martial Realm supporting him, the pressure he had to endure from Mu Qin was much diminished. Among his many supporters was Xin Dhaije, who controlled his six longswords to attack from afar. Even so, the battle was far from a walk in the park.

Mu Qin’s assaults had a wide-ranging scope. She could be targeting Zhang Daofeng, but her attacks still caused splash damage to those nearby. Soldiers from the four countries and the temple’s members kept dropping to the ground every second. Those on the ground were as if witnessing a supernatural occurrence where the sky was raining blood and bodies.

With the support, Hou Huang and Dim Loog also joined Zhang Daofeng in close combat. Many of Farghous and Gyleth Marx’s soldiers adjusted their movements to either aid or protect their respective sovereigns. Their valiant efforts were not simply out of the desire to vanquish a demon, but also to show their loyalty.

Huang Ti continued to provide support from behind. Aside from the Beta Puppet, Huang Ti was now also supported by his long-time friend, Zhu Yao. Zhu Yao’s cultivation level was the Intermediate Spirit Stage. Despite his high cultivation, Zhu Yao was not an experienced fighter. His expertise was in courtly affairs. Hence, Huang Ti told him not to get too close to Mu Qin. Huang Ti was happy with the support, but didn’t want to lose his friend in the process.

It was Mu Qin who now felt the pressure on her increasing. With so many people attacking her while she couldn’t use her illusions to escape from being surrounded, she must deal with them directly. Those small fries who didn’t know their places were nothing to her. She killed them in droves. However, their interference helped Zhang Daofeng corner her.

She was aggravated. Why did these people willingly throw their lives away like this? She had killed so many of them. She felt her heart ache with everyone she killed. Yet, they continued to oppose her. Why?

Was it because of the instilled belief that a demon is evil and must be eradicated?

This thought brought her back to the distant past, when she was appointed as the keeper. She was tasked to supervise the renewal of the next epoch, ensuring everything went smoothly for the next cycle. During the appointment, she had argued about revising the mindset on demons. Being a demon herself, she didn’t want people to hate her just for who she was. What’s wrong with being a demon? If a demon was so bad, why did the Divine choose her for the task?

Yet, her request was denied.

The belief that demons were bad and profane was compulsory. The belief must be instilled in all new generations, without exception.

If there was any time when she disagreed with the Divine, it was that time. Still, she obeyed His will and went with the role she was tasked with.

The momentary trip to the memory lane distracted her. Zhang Daofeng fully made use of the opportunity. His two chakrams combined above Mu Qin and again became one large yin-yang symbol. The symbol churned as fire and water intermingled. He thrust his ink brush at the symbol, and it descended on Mu Qin.

Mu Qin was forced to use her two hands to stop the symbol from hitting her. The fierce spinning of the symbol ground at her. Fire and water assailed her. All the while, her hair spread, repelling assaults from multiple directions.

Seeing this, Hou Huang and Dim Loog doubled their efforts. They targeted Mu Qin from her flanks while she was forced to concentrate on the yin-yang symbol above her. If they could break through her hair defense, her body would be sitting duck.
