Chapter 727: Chapter 727. The Fall of a King

Further away in the cave, Huang San was making progress. After repeated clashes, vines from his nature armor managed to creep into the Beta Puppet on several more occasions. Each time, the vines caused more damage to the puppet’s internal circuitry.

By now, the Beta Puppet’s movement had become increasingly sluggish. It had a problem keeping up with Huang San. Furthermore, the six dark chakrams had stopped harassing him for a while now. All that stood in his way was the woman who now turned into a multi-tailed fox and the firebird.

"Begone, you beast...!!" Huang San exclaimed.

His longsword generated multiple sharp lights that pierced the Great Sun Hawk. Its mobility was greatly hampered inside this cave. It couldn’t maneuver by flying. It mostly relied on ranged attacks to assault Huang San. With the Beta Puppet incapacitated, Huang San could get close. Its fire couldn’t stop him.

The Great Sun Hawk screeched from the pain. Blood spurted from multiple parts of its body that had been stabbed. Huang San didn’t waste his time finishing the Great Sun Hawk. His priority was escaping, and there was still Lin Li.

Huang San swung his longsword to the side as Lin Li flashed nearby. Multiple barbed whips lashed out following the swing. Lin Li’s claws struck the incoming sword and whips, but couldn’t cope with so many attacks simultaneously. One whip slipped past and hit her. She tumbled with a yelp.

Huang San didn’t relent. He fired his lightning sceptre. The blue lightning struck Lin Li in the air. She fell to the ground with half her fur being singed to blackness. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

Huang San hoped that the lightning strike had killed the spirit beast. Lin Li was the one holding Huang Zen’s head. It was safe to assume she was the one who dealt Huang Zen the killing blow. His heart wanted to ensure he had enacted vengeance, but his brain told him that would be a foolish move. He restrained himself and moved away. He must return to Echos, to Yang Li and Huang Bei.

With all obstacles removed, Huang San increased his pace. However, after only a few steps, he sensed something fast coming from behind. He turned back and saw the dark chakrams had returned.

He swiveled back. Sword and whips slashed the incoming chakrams. His barbed whips smacked the chakrams and sent them away. As for the one that clashed with his sword, it broke. The dark shadows coating the chakram dispersed, revealing broken pieces of a large knife.

Huang San was slightly surprised by this feat. Before, he had hit the dark chakrams with harder attacks, but they didn’t break. He didn’t know that five out of the six Alpha Flying Knives had cracked after Wu Di damaged them. They could not endure additional impacts.

Breaking one of the chakrams emboldened Huang San. These flying weapons were too fast. He couldn’t outrun them. If he could break them, his escape would be less troublesome.

With this thought, he prepared for the next attack. The five chakrams didn’t disappoint. They made a swift U-turn in the air and flew back. Huang San executed his martial arts. Flashes of thrusting and slashing swords struck the chakrams. Four broke, and one survived. The surviving dark chakram bounced after hitting the cave wall and returned.

Huang San frowned. He was undecided. Should he spend more seconds focusing on breaking this last chakram? Or should he resume his escape?

He decided to do the latter. Vines emerged from the nature armor on his back. They would whip the chakram away when it came near. When he turned to resume running, he sensed something flying toward him. He shifted and avoided getting hit by it.

The thing flew past him and bounced off the wall ahead. He had a good look at it then. It was Huang Zen’s head.

Earlier, when Lin Li attacked him, she was no longer holding the head. He assumed she had dropped it back there. He was trying to escape, so the thought of going back to search for the head didn’t cross his mind. But now that it appeared before him and was so close, he couldn’t resist. He had to get Huang Zen’s head so he had something to bury his nephew with.

He yawed to the left without slowing down to approach the head. With one swift move, he snatched the head up. He turned the head so it faced him. A terrible sadness assailed him as he watched Huang Zen’s rigid face, but then something drew his attention.

Huang Zen’s mouth was slightly open, and it was glowing. As his gaze paid more attention to the glow, he discovered that the glow was from something inside Huang Zen’s mouth. He could only glimpse a small portion of the glowing thing, but it quickly registered to him what it was.

His hand was in the motion of throwing the head away, but it was too late.

*BOOM!*

The head exploded. The thing glowing inside Huang Zen’s mouth was an exploding talisman. The explosion was too close. Though Huang San’s defensive aura protected him from suffering injury, the force of the detonation stopped his momentum and caused him to lose balance.

He again sensed something approaching fast. But this time, he could no longer dodge. All he managed to do was turn his head and see the shadow-shrouded demon from before. The difference was that the shadows stopped near the neck. The demon’s head was exposed, and that head had Amon’s face.

The defense of Huang San’s nature armor was triggered automatically. Thorny vines sprout from the armor and lash at Amon. They were useless, though. The black sword from Amon’s ceremonial dagger easily cut through them. They couldn’t slow Amon in the slightest.

Amon crashed into Huang San. His dark sword pierced into Huang San’s chest.

"A... Amon...!" Huang San exclaimed. Blood spurted from his mouth.

"Sorry, Your Majesty. It’s nothing personal. You are simply in my way," Amon said.

"You...! How are you still alive?" Huang San asked.

"Those were your last words? Such a waste," Amon responded.

Huang San grabbed Amon’s sword hand. If he let Amon pull the dagger out, it would be fatal. He swung his longsword, aiming for Amon’s neck, but Amon’s free hand caught his swinging arm. They were in a deadlock.

The vines from Huang San’s nature armor lashed out in defense, attempting to bind Amon. The dark suit eroded them upon contact, except for Amon’s head. The vines wrapped around Amon’s head. Its thorns pierced his skin, causing bloody wounds.

Huang San commanded his nature armor to tighten its grip on Amon’s head. With enough force, he should be able to squash Amon’s head. This was his only hope for surviving. Yet, when he saw Amon’s mouth in between the tightening vines, he froze.

Amon’s mouth was curved into a grin. The mouth spoke, "So long, Your Majesty."

Huang San sensed it then. It was too late, though. Between his near-death state and close victory, his cultivation sense was dulled. By the time he sensed it, it was already too close.

The last Alpha Flying Knife flew in from the side. It pierced right into his neck. He lost his strength then.

Amon pulled his ceremonial dagger. The black sword sliced half of Huang San’s chest on its way out. Without a pause, Amon slashed again. His ceremonial dagger flashed past Huang San’s neck, and the king’s head detached from his body.

Amon looked at the head that had dropped on the ground. Huang San’s face was coincidentally facing him.

Huang San’s eyes were still wide open. They were fixed on Amon, accusing and condemning. His gaze was full of fury, regret, and unwillingness. Yet, everything had happened, and there was nothing he could do now that his life was over.

Amon returned the gaze. He wasn’t afraid of dead people’s stares. Dead people couldn’t do anything. He did have one thing he pitied, though. He should have answered Huang San’s last question. He owed Huang San at least that much for what Huang San had provided him in the past.

The reason he was still alive after Zhang Daofeng reduced him to only his left arm was because of the Divine Immortal Growth Pill, a high-tier ancient pill he had gained in the past. After consuming the pill, within the next ten minutes, he could regenerate a complete body as long as one part of his body remained.

Aside from the Divine Immortal Growth Pill, he had Bo Wu to thank for surviving. If not for the hell beast, every inch of his body would have turned to dust. Even the high-tier ancient pill couldn’t save him if that happened. Nevertheless, Bo Wu itself almost perished. Even now, it had not yet recovered.

Amon looked at his left arm. The tattoo on that arm was still dim, but it was darker than it had been at the time after Zhang Daofeng almost killed him. Bo Wu still couldn’t appear, and he still couldn’t hear its voice, but he could feel that his hell passenger was slowly recovering.
