Ruling the Historical Romance Novel as the Female Supporting Character-Chapter 275: All Targeted Actions Have a Purpose
"Miss Su, I’m truly sorry. I’m narrow-minded and sometimes focus on others’ wealth. I’m just poor and anxious, so please don’t be angry with me, alright?" Xin Simeng spoke with such sincerity, making sure everyone could hear.
Zuo Huilan quickly added, "It was my fault before. I shouldn’t have taken Commander Xue’s wife’s side so thoughtlessly. I thought she was just being rude, but now I realize she had designs on Commander Qin. Knowing how despicable such women are, I wouldn’t have stood up for her even if I were someone else’s wife."
Su Yijia wanted to retort but remembered her suspicions and could only manage a forced, polite smile.
The late-arriving Auntie Chen, somewhat awkwardly, said, "Miss Su, please don’t hold it against Auntie. I’m just envious of the good things you have. I have many children at home and rely on my husband alone, so I tend to be stingy. When I see others with good things, I can’t help but feel a bit jealous."
"Oh," Su Yijia replied, clearly not giving much regard to the three of them.
It was obvious that even with their apologies, the relationship was already strained.
Among them, only Aunt Chen seemed genuinely remorseful. She was simply being petty, a sentiment many people experience, but her feelings were especially pronounced. Compared to the other two, though, it was hardly worth mentioning.
Once all the guests had left, Xia Weiguo and Qin Kaizhe exchanged apologetic glances with her.
"Jiajia, it’s our fault for not sorting things out beforehand, allowing those clueless ones to ruin your celebration," they said.
They usually didn’t have a good grasp of what those aunties were like in private. With both of them being bachelors, there was no one at home to interact with the women from the squad. On the surface, the aunties always seemed polite, and they hadn’t noticed any issues. Who could have known they would suddenly blow up today?
"Suspect that Kaize might have lied about his injuries, and also investigate the two Aunts who tried to convince me to forgive Wang Futong this afternoon, including their husbands. There might be hidden motives," Su Yijia suddenly said, leaving them both stunned.
They quickly realized what she meant. The two exchanged glances, seeing uncertainty reflected in each other’s eyes.
Neither of them had mentioned Xue Qianhao’s issues or how he had secretly acted against Qin Kaizhe in the past. So their first instinct was to think it was the other who had told her about it. However, after that shared look, they both understood that neither had said anything.
"Jiajia, did you find out something?" Qin Kaize asked with uncertainty.
Su Yijia glanced towards the kitchen, reminding them it was not safe to discuss things here. Although she completely trusted her grandparents and Gao Huabin, some secrets are best kept within the family for safety. And her guesses, though based on observations, could not be completely accurate.
"Let’s talk in my room." Xia Weiguo led them to his room.
Once inside, Xia Weiguo and Qin Kaize stared intently at Su Yijia. She almost felt overwhelmed by their unified gaze. Clearing her throat, she said, "I didn’t confront them earlier to avoid ruining the banquet and to prevent giving the impression that I’m hard to get along with. But it was strange how they were so foolish as to make unpleasant remarks during my wedding banquet.
As for the doubts about Kaize’s injury claims and the Aunts urging me to forgive Wang Futong, their malicious intent was evident. This wasn’t the primary reason for my suspicion, though. When Uncle Xia asked Commissar Mi to handle his mother, or else his position might be at risk, I noticed these two Aunts couldn’t hide their delight. Even their husbands seemed to stiffen, as if receiving some signal. In this team, if there are problems, they’re not hard to guess.
From this, it’s clear that the two Aunts who risked offending me to persuade me to pardon Wang Futong must have their own motives. If Wang Futong were a spy, she wouldn’t have married Xue Qianhao as it would complicate her mission. Therefore, Xue Qianhao must be involved in something."
Su Yijia’s insights pleased Xia Weiguo and Qin Kaize greatly.
"Yes! We’re a family. If you have any concerns or feel wronged, you can always talk to us," Xia Weiguo said with a smile, approving Su Yijia’s straightforwardness. He preferred that family members didn’t hide their feelings and issues.
Qin Kaize gently stroked Su Yijia’s head, his eyes filled with affection, "My wife is so smart."
They realized that Xue Qianhao was more cunning than they had imagined. Despite being on the island for only three months, he had managed to influence two people without their knowledge. Clearly, a more thorough investigation was needed.
After their discussion, Qin Kaize took Su Yijia’s hand, and they left Xia Weiguo’s room to the kitchen to wash dishes together. Xia Weiguo, after sobering up in his room, went out to make phone calls, preparing for another sleepless night. He also returned the dishes to several leaders’ homes.
When they came back, Gao Huabin, Grandpa Lin, and Grandma Lin were already asleep. Gao Huabin, having drunk quite a bit, was snoring loudly on the sofa, completely unaware of the world around him.
Su Yijia went to her room to get changed. Just as she was about to take a shower, Qin Kaize picked her up.
"Ah!" She gasped, quickly covering her mouth.
"What are you doing? You scared me!" She scratched at Qin Kaize’s firm chest, but the touch was so light it barely affected him. The light in Qin Kaize’s eyes dimmed slightly.
"We’re going together," he said, adjusting his hold on her to make her cling tighter as he headed towards the door.
Su Yijia, thinking of Gao Huabin outside, felt her face flush with embarrassment. She scratched Qin Kaize more forcefully, but he simply kissed her fingertips and assured her, "You love showering with me the most, right? Don’t worry, Huabin is drunk and won’t wake up. We’ll just lock the bathroom door."
"My legs hurt," Su Yijia murmured in a small voice, but her words only made Qin Kaize gulp audibly. Her body tensed immediately.
"I’ll check," Qin Kaize said, deciding not to rush into the shower. He carried her back to the bed. Before she could stop him, her face was covered by her red dress.
