Ruling the Historical Romance Novel as the Female Supporting Character-Chapter 303: They Can Be Fierce, But They Absolutely Can’t Be Wrong
Wang Futong’s intentions were as clear as day to Su Yijia. However, who would end up getting disgusted was still uncertain.
Qin Kaize didn’t understand the nuances of a woman’s mind, but he was very obedient to his wife. Whatever his wife asked him to do, he would do. As for the madwoman behind them, if his wife didn’t care, neither did he.
He pulled out a pear from their bag and offered it to Su Yijia. "Sweetheart, eat some fruit. It’ll make you feel better."
"I don’t want pears; I want grapes," Su Yijia pouted and turned her head away from the pear.
Qin Kaize immediately showed a troubled expression. "Grapes are hard to peel. I have to fan you, so can you wait until we’re off the boat?"
His voice was so gentle and pampering it could almost turn to syrup.
But Su Yijia stubbornly huffed, "No, I want grapes. The boat is moving, and the sea breeze makes it feel cool."
Qin Kaize touched her little face with his knuckles, confirming it was cool from the breeze, and then took out a bunch of grapes from the bag. He peeled one and offered it to Su Yijia.
Su Yijia finally ate it obediently.
"Your grapes are so sweet!" she said softly, enough for those behind to hear.
Wang Futong was furious, clutching her skirt tightly, while Qin Kaize’s pleased chuckle came from his throat.
"I’ll peel grapes for you from now on," Qin Kaize said, placing the grape skins on a handkerchief and peeling another grape for Su Yijia.
"Spit the seeds onto the handkerchief. We’ll throw them away when we’re ashore," he continued, soothingly.
Su Yijia had no intention of tossing these grape seeds. They were the seeds for her future orchard, after all, so of course, she’d keep them. Unlike crops like rice that only grow once, fruit trees are different--once the seeds are planted and the trees grow, they’ll produce high-yield, high-quality fruit for years. If she wanted her dried fruit, canned goods, and juice factory to flourish, she’d need plenty of seeds on hand.
Wang Futong, watching the two of them--one feeding and the other eating--was so angry she nearly choked. Disgusting! Shameless! Su Yijia was nothing but a cheap woman, corrupting Qin Kaize along with her. He used to be so proper and would never be so close with a female colleague. But now, he had thrown away his sense of decorum and self-respect, doing such indecent things in public. Did this wretched woman save his life or something? Why would a proud, upright man lower himself like this and become a laughingstock?
Wang Futong’s body shook with anger, her face contorted with rage so fiercely it was barely held in check. Fortunately, both Su Yijia and Qin Kaize had a reputation for fierceness; otherwise, someone might have noticed Wang Futong’s twisted, ugly expression by now.
But no matter how enraged Wang Futong was--practically ready to explode on the spot--the affectionate display between the young couple in front of her showed no signs of stopping. After feeding her a dozen grapes, Su Yijia pressed her lips together and shook her head, refusing, "No more, I’m full."
"Okay, if you’re full. Do you feel alright? Do you want to rest on my shoulder?" Qin Kaize immediately put away the handkerchief and asked with concern.
No! Wang Futong clenched her teeth so hard that the scream welling up inside her nearly escaped. Only when she saw Su Yijia shaking her head as well did she feel a slight sense of relief.
"I don’t want to," Su Yijia murmured softly, "This is too affectionate in public; people might talk." Though her words sounded like a refusal, her voice was deliberately soft and sweet, laced with reliance. Her consideration made Qin Kaize’s heart ache for her.
"Who would say anything?" he replied, sternly correcting what he deemed her misguided thinking. "You’re seasick--it’s perfectly normal to feel unwell. No decent person would criticize you over that." His large, gentle hand rested on her slender waist, pulling her into his embrace as he continued to fan her with his palm fan. He increased the distance and range of each wave to ensure the breeze reached as much of her as possible.
Wang Futong had intended to use propriety to keep them from being so close. But Qin Kaize’s response had already shut down everything she hadn’t dared to say out loud. It felt as if a knife had pierced her heart, leaving it raw and bleeding. Pain and jealousy exploded within her, and she clenched her teeth so tightly she could taste blood.
Finally unable to bear it any longer, she raised her hand to slap Qin Kaize. But sensing the movement in the air, Qin Kaize immediately shifted forward with Su Yijia in his arms, deftly evading Wang Futong’s touch.
"What do you want now?" Qin Kaize turned around, his eyes full of fierce aversion.
Wang Futong’s eyes turned red with anger. But when she saw Su Yijia’s mocking gaze, she shivered and repressed her intense grievance.
Yet, when she spoke, her voice was still pitiful. "I’m feeling seasick and very uncomfortable. Can you..."
"No!" Qin Kaize cut her off decisively, not even letting her finish.
Whatever she wanted was certainly not with good intentions. He wasn’t going to make his wife unhappy for someone else.
Wang Futong, feeling wronged, said, "I just wanted to ask you for some grapes. I saw your wife didn’t want any more. I can buy them..."
"I’d rather feed them to a dog," Qin Kaize’s voice was as cold as a winter gale, chilling Wang Futong to the bone.
Seeing the other passengers on the boat looking curiously at them, Wang Futong felt humiliated and angry, wishing she could disappear into a hole in the ground.
She had planned that if Qin Kaize refused her so bluntly, she could use the "we’re all on the same team" argument. But Qin Kaize used the harshest possible refusal.
Wang Futong dared not utter another word and lowered her head to minimize her presence, trying to avoid becoming the butt of everyone’s jokes.
However, Su Yijia, who was never easy to deal with, would not let her off so easily.
"I’m curious. After you’ve been punished and beaten by me, why did you choose to sit behind us on the boat today? On such a hot day, who wants to be cramped together, and why are you pushing yourself into our space?" 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
"And since our relationship is so bad, why do you insist on getting close to us? It seems you haven’t learned your lesson and still harbor ill intentions. Otherwise, who would go through so much and still try to keep in touch after everything? Yet you dare to talk to my husband and ask for food," Su Yijia said, crossing her arms and looking down on Wang Futong with disdain.
Today, Qin Kaize had spoken too harshly. If she didn’t reveal this woman’s intentions in public, it would tarnish his reputation. They could be fierce and hard to get along with, but they couldn’t be wrong.
"I haven’t!" Wang Futong shivered, hurriedly denying it.
But Su Yijia snorted. "Whether you did or didn’t, there’s no need to argue here. Everyone can see through your little schemes. You’re probably the only one who’s foolish enough to think everyone else is blind and stupid!"
