Sacred Flame: His Enemy, His Mate (BL)-Chapter 79: Cruising?
Kain Locke
I had my guess it could be him the second I got the message even though I never did give him my contact information, but who am I kidding? He could get it at ease,
Still, I stared at the screen a few seconds longer, debating whether to even go out. My fingers hovered over the screen of my communicator.
Now you might be wondering why then I’m out here? Well, I thought the same, even though I should’ve ignored it. Should’ve just put it back inside and buried myself in work or sleep or anything else that didn’t involve... him.
But I didn’t. Because before I knew what I was doing, I had already pulled on a hoodie, grabbed my communicator, and headed out.
And there he was.
Leaning against his flying car like some smug poster boy for "trouble you should’ve walked away from." My heart stuttered for a second, just a second, but I kept my face blank, eyes cold. I even turned to go back.
But of course, he caught me. Like I thought.
"You’re fast," he teased, sweeping me off the ground like I weighed nothing. "Missed me?"
I had also fought back. "Put me down."
And of course, he didn’t.
"Don’t you miss me at all?" he asked, like the question was casual, like the answer wouldn’t break something in me.
I scowled. "In your dreams. Why would I miss someone who disappears whenever he feels like it?" I mean, I was annoyed at that fact.
But thinking about it. Why do I want to wake up with him next to me?
It’s one thing that he said he likes me, might be in his own twisted way, but me...? I don’t know what to call this, not when I wasn’t so sure that I hated him anymore.
So when I said that, I meant it to sting, but it came out weaker than I wanted. I hated how my voice cracked just a little. He noticed, I think.
He set me down, but before I could step back, his arm slid around my waist, pulling me close. "So you did miss me," he whispered and kissed my forehead before I could dodge it.
I scowled harder, hoping it would mask how warm my face had gotten.
He leaned into me, resting his head in the crook of my neck like he belonged there, like no time had passed. And he muttered another word that surprised me again, "I’m sorry I didn’t tell you. I had to be somewhere."
Why was he apologizing to me? I mean he shouldn’t. Just as I shouldn’t be concerned about his movement, but I still found my inside heating up just at the hearing of those words.
This is dangerous, and by how close he was, I couldn’t help but try to push him off, but he didn’t budge.
"Let me recharge for a little bit... will you?"
I hated how easily those words worked on me. And as much as I tell myself to push him back, but I couldn’t do it, I’m such a sucker for his weird requests. And I couldn’t help wanting to look at his face.
Is he exhausted?
Where was he?
I tried pulling back just as slowly as I could so as to see his face, but he didn’t allow me. Only tightening his hold that I gave up that idea and became his human comforter.
Even as I stood still, arms limp at my sides, I found myself moving my head to scan him with a quick, practiced eye. His fancy coat covered most of him, but I could see the tension in his shoulders,
I sighed, soft enough that he wouldn’t hear.
Just a little longer. Just for now.
He was still leaning on me, his arms loosely resting around my waist like he didn’t plan to move anytime soon. His head nestled into the crook of my neck, warm breath brushing lightly against my skin. It tickled—barely—but enough to make me shift, not even the slightest.
Then, out of nowhere, he mumbled, "What do you think about this car? Fancy, isn’t it?"
I blinked, glancing at the flying car he parked earlier. It wasn’t like I hadn’t seen it before. I’d been on it—more than once, actually. It was flashy for sure... but it was nothing new to me.
So I just said, "Yeah. It’s fancy." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
His fingers moved slightly, not tightening, just trailing lightly across the back of my shirt in a slow soothing motion, like he was thinking of saying something else but hadn’t found the words yet.
Then I heard him.
"Just fancy?" He repeated like I wounded him.
His lips were so close, the words practically brushed against my skin. It made my ears heat up before I could even process the tone.
I didn’t answer right away. Mostly because I was busy pretending his proximity didn’t affect me... when it really, really did.
He let out a small sigh. Not annoyed, it was something quieter. Maybe disappointed? His hand stayed on my side a second longer than needed before slowly sliding off, like he didn’t really want to let go.
I tried not to think about that.
Tried not to think about how close he was, or how he smelled faintly of the night air and something I couldn’t place, but knew. Maybe wine, mixing with his own scent, both blended together.
Then I heard him.
"You hurt me," he said, squinting at me. "And here I am... bringing this just to take you on a ride over the whole island tomorrow."
He gestured toward the flashy flying car like it was some grand romantic gesture. Knowing him, maybe it was.
I raised a brow. "I’ve been on it before." I mean, I have.. with Brian all the two times...
He clicked his tongue and shook his head. "Not like this. Tomorrow’s ride is going to be different. No guards, no time limits, no missions. Just us, cruising wherever we want."
Just us?
Before I could come up with a response, he grabbed my hand and started walking toward the base. "Let’s get inside first."
I didn’t pull away this time, he was going to do what he wanted whether it was in my own agreement or not, so I see no point. And it was quite chilly out here, I could even feel it through the sweatshirt I had on.
We got to the elevator in no time. But just as I was about to press my floor, Kael pressed the button for the second floor before I could.
"Wait. My room’s below that." I protested.
"I know," he said simply.
I blinked. "Then why—"
"You wouldn’t want your friend walking in on us again, would you?" he cut in, his voice filled with unhidden mischief. "Though I had to admit that... it does sound exciting, thinking about it."
I nearly tripped my entirely tensed body, as I could feel the heat crawling up my neck.
"Y-You—!" I bit down the rest of the words, too flustered to even finish.
He leaned closer, lowering his voice. "Relax. I always keep my promises."
His promise?
My brain immediately betrayed me, flashing back to what he’d said last night "Not until you beg for it."
Would I even...? No. I wasn’t going to beg. Absolutely not.
Still, the memory of me clinging to him, voice cracking as I begged for him to keep on going last night was— oh my...
"Stop daydreaming, kain Locke, or we will be spending the next hour at the elevator," Kael said suddenly, snapping me out of my spiraling thoughts.
I looked up and saw he was already inside the elevator, one hand casually, gentlemanly and innocently tucked into his pocket like he hadn’t just whispered the filthiest thing imaginable into my ear minutes ago.
Now we’re using, full name?
I swallowed hard before I stepped in after him, keeping a safe distance. Not that it helped though because as soon as the door slid closed, he leaned closer again, brushing against my shoulder and hoarsely whispered into my ear, "Do you know you’re all red now? I’m curious as to what you were thinking about. Could it be.."
"N-Nothing!" I said, way too fast, cutting him off midway.
He chuckled and leaned back like he was satisfied with my reaction.
The elevator chimed, indicating we’re on the selected floor, and soon we stepped off onto the second floor and walked down the quiet hallway until he got to his door, opened his room, tossed his key on the table as he walked in.
Without warning, he flopped face-first onto the bed with a sigh, while I awkwardly stood there, wondering if I should take a seat or stepped back out and made for my room.
But do I really want that? I’m not sure I do, so I was just there.
Then, after a moment, he turned, sat up and grabbed my wrist, tugging me down beside him before I could resist. He shifted over me, just enough to steal a kiss, and when I said a kiss, I meant a soft, lazy one, which was way too quick, before rolling off with a dramatic groan.
"Let’s go grab a bite. I’m starving."
I blinked at him. "Dinner’s over. It’s past 9PM." As far as I’m concerned, here, 6pm is the fixed time for dinner, so even if he got there around 6:30pm, it’s very unlikely to get food, not to mention now... It’s absolutely impossible.
He waved a hand like that fact didn’t matter. "To whom does that matter? Come on."
"...You’re impossible."
But I was already getting up anyway.
We finally got to the cafeteria. It was mostly empty—no surprise, considering how late it was. A few scattered lights hummed overhead, flickering faintly like they were half-asleep too.
Kael muttered something and disappeared around a corner, leaving me alone by the entrance.
I sighed and took a seat near one of the long tables, the cool metal pressing against my arms. My mind wandered for a moment, mostly about the way he kissed me earlier like it wasn’t a big deal. Like it was natural.
What even was this between us?
I was still stuck in my thoughts when I heard soft footsteps padding into the room. Someone had entered, but it wasn’t Kael.
He was tall. His purple hair hung lazily over his forehead, still damp like he’d just stepped out of a shower. His uniform jacket was only half-on, with its collar loose, exposing a bit of his collarbone.
I watched him head to the vending machine, tapping on the buttons without even glancing my way. But then,
He turned.
And the second his eyes met mine, he paused.
"...Kain?" he said with the same surprise I got.
