Chapter 707: Coward Mike

Wilderness

The four Beast Tamers were petrified on the spot. They noticed the reaction of their lifeline beasts before they could even think of a solution.

An unknown pressure landed on them.

The Tsetse Fly Beasts were waiting. This time, the two Tier-6 beasts had a tactical understanding. They turned toward their kin and conveyed to them that they could take the human prey as food.

Buzz!

Hearing that, the Tier-5 Tsetse Fly Beasts from the group came forward. Four beasts appeared in front of the Tier-6 beasts. Under their gaze, they turned toward the petrified human Beast Tamers. The next second, the four Tier-5 beasts acted.

Pfff!

In an instant, the bodies of the human Beast Tamers were pierced. Blood splattered on the ground.

The Beast Tamers were scared to the core. Under their helpless gaze, they watched their own bodies being impaled. They could feel the blood in their bodies beginning to decrease.

In the blink of an eye, their bodies became dry. The blood in their veins was completely consumed by the four beasts.

The four Beast Tamers lost their lives silently. They couldn’t even utter a word. Nobody had a clue that their members had died here.

The two Tier-6 beasts possessed intelligence. They understood that the remaining human Beast Tamers wouldn’t come out anytime soon.

So far, the beasts had tasted the blood of eight Beast Tamers.

They had come here to capture the specific Beast Tamer who had injured them, yet they were able to feast on others. Since they were having such a feast, the two Tier-6 beasts decided to stay until they tasted the blood of the rest of the humans.

Meanwhile,

Leader Mike and the rest of the Beast Tamers were waiting inside the hideout. Time passed by, but there was no sign of the team coming back. Leader Mike and the remaining members were getting nervous.

They looked at each other. The first team sent earlier had been killed by the corrupted beasts above. Then, the sound became quiet. Mike had sent a second team to check the surface. It had been some time, and they hadn’t returned yet.

"Leader, I think it must be a Tier-6 corrupted beast," one of the members said.

Hearing that, others voiced the same opinion. There were only four Beast Tamers remaining on the spot.

Leader Mike’s expression darkened. He didn’t expect the corrupted beasts to stay in place; he had thought the beasts had left.

But he was wrong. They were waiting there to lure everyone out. Leader Mike looked at the remaining four Beast Tamers.

To be honest, he wanted to send this last team out again, yet he knew it would be the same as sending them to their deaths.

The faces of the remaining four were grim. They were afraid Mike would sacrifice them, especially because the people who went earlier had similar strength to theirs.

Mike then noticed the time. He had to deliver the goods by the next morning. If the beasts continued to stay here, he would fail the mission. He could not let that happen.

After a long time, he had finally gotten the opportunity to climb the ladder. He could not waste it. If he completed the mission, his position would be permanent.

Mike took a deep breath before making a firm decision.

He decided to go out now. If it was a Tier-6 beast causing the problem, he would risk it all to kill it. He turned toward the members and said, "Follow me. I’ll kill the beast."

"Phew!"

Hearing that, the other four members heaved a sigh of relief. They had worried they would be used as scapegoats. Mike led them toward the open hatch, holding a sharp weapon in his hand, a cold axe.

On the other hand,

Jeremy Night was left speechless. He didn’t expect the second team to meet such a tragic end. They hadn’t come back, which meant they had become food for the fly beasts. But he didn’t feel bad.

The Darkshade members were criminals to begin with, involved in all kinds of illegal activities. If their actions were exposed to the public, it would cause a huge uproar.

A deep-frozen beast corpse in front of him was a perfect example and higher-tier beast at that.

If the Colossal Beasts were to learn of such activities, they would use the opportunity to attack the city.

Jeremy thought that such illegal activities could be contributing to the beast invasions. He collected his thoughts and continued to wait.

He didn’t think the Leader and the last team could solve the problem. Two Tier-6 beasts and their kin were circling above. He believed they would all become food for the Tsetse Fly Beasts.

He only hoped the beasts would leave after that. If they stayed, he would be stuck here. Unless the Darkshade organization sent another team, he wouldn’t have a chance to leave on his own.

Meanwhile,

Leader Mike opened the hatch to emerge outside. The other four members followed. Mike’s lifeline beast alerted him of danger first.

Before the other four could realize the threat, Mike hastily retreated and slammed the hatch shut.

His sudden actions startled the members. Unfortunately, they were too late to react. The four of them found their bodies frozen in fear.

Leader Mike re-entered the hideout alone. He heard noises outside, but he doubted the members would survive.

He broke out into a cold sweat. His lifeline beast had warned him just in time: there was not just one Tier-6 beast, but two.

"Damn it," Mike uttered. "Where did these beasts come from?"

In a foul mood, he went back to his room. The four members were likely dead by now. He could only wait for backup to arrive.

At the same time, Jeremy was angry. He didn’t expect the leader to return alone. It meant he had ditched his members to save his own skin.

He hated cowards. Jeremy Night watched the leader’s movements. Seeing the man return to his office, his heart turned cold.
