Chapter 211: Plan of Action

Both the Lich and the Necromancer System could create subordinates, but Jason’s system allowed Jason to control individual souls without having to compromise his own soul or mana, meanwhile, the Lich had to split his soul into thousands of pieces to create his own subordinates. Jason ran a hand through his hair as he thought for a few seconds before he asked the system a crazy question.

’Lichs are undead creatures, aren’t they? Will my abilities work against their subordinates since they are already dead?’

The system actually paused for a moment when this question was asked, and Jason narrowed his eyes as he waited for a response. This was the most important thing right now! If Jason found out that this system was not going to work against the Lich’s subordinates, then all of this might have just become a thousand times harder! Having to go through an entire horde of Rook Rank subordinates with his pawns and a few Rooks just didn’t seem possible. Jason waited for an answer, and after a few seconds the system finally had one.

[The system is not certain of how the Necromancer System would react with the subordinates of the Lich. In past experiences, there have been times when the Necromancer System successfully retrieved the soul of a Necrosised creature from the [River of the Afterlife], and there have been times when the soul of a Necrosised creature could not be acquired. The user will not know the possibilities until he faces the Lich himself.]

’Well, fuck.’

Jason clicked his tongue as he turned to the side! His mind was racing at that moment and he didn’t know what the hell he was going to do now. Jason had always had the confidence that he could resurrect any monster that he wanted in a Gate or battle, and that allowed him to go into battles with the full confidence that he would win in any stretched-out battle. It didn’t matter how many soldiers you had because Jason would just keep resurrecting your allies until he outnumbered you. That was one of Jason’s best strategies.

But the way things were now, Jason knew that he would have to come up with a new plan of action in case things didn’t go his way. Jason had about seven hundred subordinates, and he had various attacking and defending types of monsters. The [Iron Bladed Falcon] were Jason’s best ranged attackers, but they were also very high defense-based monsters. The [Adamantine Ant] and [Midnight Wolves] were great frontline fighters. The [Adamantine Ants] would help Jason to swarm the enemy relentlessly and the [Midnight Wolves] were creatures of pure brutality. The [Spidermonkeys] were strongest when they were attacking from mid-range. They were good at distracting and luring the enemy in before leaving the stronger members to cause more damage. And lastly, the superhumans and phantoms were going to be good as foot soldiers using their different Gifts.

Jason needed to first find a vantage point once he got to the Lich’s world. If he stayed in an area that was too open, then he wouldn’t be able to use his monsters properly. He needed a wall behind him so that he couldn’t be attacked from behind, then he would launch a frontal attack with the [Adamantine Ants] and [Iron Bladed Falcons] so he could measure the strength of the enemies. The result of that first volley would determine how Jason would handle the rest of the battle.

If Jason could resurrect the Lich’s subordinates, then he wouldn’t change his regular attack pattern, but if he couldn’t, then he was going to have to make up something new on the spot. He didn’t know enough about the terrain or the Lich’s power to form a plan now, but Jason was going to have to get at least one or two more Milestone Abilities for his pieces. If the Rooks and Pawns had one or two more abilities, then Jason would have more options.

’I also have to find the Lich as soon as possible. The system said that all the subordinates share fragments of his soul, so if I manage to kill him, then I’ll be able to kill all of them, right?’

Jason asked this question to the system and the system responded.

[Yes, the user is correct. Eliminating the Lich will cut the connection he has with all his subordinates, and they will return to their deceased state.]

Jason’s eyes narrowed as he thought about this, and he finally decided on his plan of action. This could be one of the most taxing battles of Jason’s life and it was definitely the most important one that he had ever been in, but Jason didn’t have the option of losing. Jason made a promise to Gina that he would protect her, and Jason didn’t have any intention of going back on his word.

Jason let out another calm sigh as he bowed his head tiredly. Jason glanced into his Alternate Dimension to see Gina’s peaceful, resting face once more and he immediately felt his eyes drifting shut as his tiredness took over and it wasn’t long before he simply dozed off!

——

[Greenville]

The city of Greenville was a large, sprawling landscape that covered no less than five hundred square kilometres in landmass. It had once been regarded as one of the less important cities in the country due to the fact that it didn’t have any important trade or commercial centers around it. It didn’t have a port and there were no important trade routes that passed through it either, so most of the other cities around were seen to be more important! But all of that changed after the appearance of Gates.

The frequency of gate appearances all over the country was random and unpredictable, but after a few years, there was more than enough data to determine how often a Gate appeared in a city and what colors were the most frequent! And to the surprise of nearly everyone in the country, it was found that Greenville was not only the city with the highest number of gate appearances, but it also boasted more than sixty percent of all the Orange Gate appearances in the country!

This meant that an Orange Gate was nearly five times more likely to appear in Greenville than it was to appear in any other city out there! This was the reason why the largest guild in the country decided to take this unremarkable city as the base for their headquarters, and once they became the face of Greenville, the city’s entire fortune changed! Now, there were more Guild bases in Greenville than in any other city in the country, and the number of Superhuman Agencies and Artefact Trading Companies that had taken Greenville as their base of operations was also higher than anywhere else!

Greenville was filled with sprawling skyscrapers, and it had an elaborate business center that boasted more than a hundred different agency buildings! It was this business center that the Phantoms made their way towards first.

Invisible figures moved along the dark shadows cast upon the city streets by the silver moonlight above. The city was still alive with civilians and businessmen who were either finding their way home or towards the nearest bar for a drink, but none of them were any wiser about the various figures moving through their city! Alpha kept her eyes narrowed in concentration as she easily passed from one shadow to the other. After a while, she stopped and sent a message to three of the Phantoms following her to break off and go into the guild building to her right. They were to search through the building for the Artefact and report back if they found anything. The three broke off and went to do as they were told and Alpha continued moving with the others.
