Chapter 131: I Had No Choice But To Bite You 131

Enzo cupped her face, guiding her head to turn toward him. "You might not like what I’m about to say, and you might panic or freak out, but..." He hesitated, his thumb brushing against her cheek as he inhaled softly. "You almost died after getting shot, Adeline. I had no choice but to bite you."

"What?" She lifted her hands, wrapping them around Enzo’s wrist.

"I turned you into a vampire, Adeline."

"What?!" Her yell echoed through the room, startling Vincent so badly that he nearly dropped the bullet.

Enzo gave her a small, awkward smile, his blue eyes filled with both regret and relief. "I’m sorry, okay? But It was the only way to save you."

Her mind reeled, the weight of his words crashing down on her. "Vampire..." The word rang in her head, over and over.

Enzo reached out, and Vincent, understanding the silent request, handed him the phone. Swiping through the screen, he pulled up the video recording and held it out to her. "Surely you wouldn’t have preferred to die. Not after finally getting what you wanted. This is all the proof you need to finally bring your uncles to justice."

Her gaze flickered to the screen, watching the recorded confession. He was right. No matter what, she knew she wouldn’t have chosen death—not after everything. Not after coming this far.

"You’re right... I wouldn’t have wanted to die." She lowered her head, her shoulders slumping slightly as a sigh fled her lips.

Just then, her eye twitched, an ache spreading through her gums. A strange pressure had suddenly built inside her mouth, pushing against her teeth. A piercing sting followed, and as she opened her mouth to gasp, her fangs elongated—long and sharp.

A jolt of panic shot through her as she let out a startled scream, her hand instinctively clapping over her mouth. She could feel them, pressing against her lips.

Her breathing grew erratic as she shook her head, her fingers trembling against her lips. They retracted slightly, then extended again as if her body was struggling to adjust. At the same time, her senses also heightened. She could hear the sound of Enzo’s breathing, and the faintest movement of Andrei shifting his weight.

"What the—?!" Her voice was muffled behind her palm as she recoiled, her wide, horrified eyes darting toward Enzo.

Enzo grasped her wrist, pulling her hand away from her mouth with a reassuring touch. "Don’t worry, it’s perfectly normal." He elongated his fangs, letting them extend naturally. The sharp, glistening tips peeked past his lips, proving to her that this wasn’t something to be scared of.

Andrei nodded in agreement. "Master Enzo is right, Miss Adeline." He bared his own fangs, flashing them for a brief moment before retracting them.

Vincent followed, opening his mouth and showing his own fangs. His was a bit shorter than the others. "See? No need to panic."

Adeline sighed, placing her index fingers on both sides of her head and rubbing her temples as if to refresh her mind. "Could this week get any weirder? I Haven’t even fully processed Enzo being a vampire, and now I’m one too?"

She then reached for the phone in Enzo’s hand and flipped it to the front camera. Her reflection stared back at her, looking the same—except for the presence of her new fangs. Slowly, she pressed her thumb against the tip of one, feeling the sharpness prick her skin.

The door suddenly creaked open.

Her eyes widened, and she quickly snapped her mouth shut, keeping her fangs out of sight. As the four of them got to their feet, she shoved the phone back into Enzo’s hand.

Two cops entered the room—a tall man and a woman, both wearing serious expressions. The male officer halted in his tracks as his gaze landed on the beaten bodies sprawled across the floor, his brows furrowing as he briefly scanned them. He glanced over at the female cop who gave him a nod of approval before he moved to check on them.

The female officer strode towards the group, and when she reached them, she extended a hand toward Enzo. "Enzo Laureati, you knucklehead."

Enzo smirked, taking her hand in his and shaking it. "Hello, Officer Willow. It’s nice to see you again."

Willow nodded, turning her attention to Adeline and offering a warm yet assessing look before giving her shoulder a light pat. "Are you alright?"

Adeline hesitated. Her fangs hadn’t retracted yet, and the last thing she needed was for the police officer to see them. Instead of speaking, she simply nodded, forcing a small, closed-mouth smile.

Enzo reached out, handing his phone to Andrei. "Andrei will explain everything to you," he told Officer Willow. Then, he pulled Adeline closer, tucking her into his side protectively. "My fiancée has been through quite a lot tonight, so she needs to rest."

Officer Willow arched a brow, her eyes flicking between them. "Alright," she nodded. "But I’ll still need to have a word with you both later."

Enzo inclined his head slightly. "Of course."

Turning, the cop motioned for Andrei to follow her. He gave Enzo a firm nod before trailing behind as they exited through the door.

Adeline tilted her head up, curiosity sparking in her eyes as he looked at Enzo. "You know her?"

"Yes, cupcake. She’s the chief of police."

Adeline hummed in understanding, nodding subtly before her expression shifted into something more inquisitive. "I see... But tell me, how did you even know I was brought here? I know damn well you never installed a tracker in my phone."

"You’re right, I didn’t," he admitted, letting out a small laugh. "It’s kind of a long story."

He turned to Vincent and gestured toward him. "But it’s all thanks to Vincent here. If it weren’t for him, I’d probably still be pacing back and forth at my place, waiting for you to arrive."

Adeline’s eyes darted to Vincent and she lowered her head, giving him a small respectful bow—the same one he had seen Andrei do to Enzo countless times. "Thank you," she said sincerely.

Vincent blinked, caught off guard. He awkwardly scratched the back of his head, looking unsure of how to respond. He wasn’t used to people thanking him, and the sudden respect made him shift uncomfortably. "Uh... yeah," he muttered, waving it off. "No problem at all, Miss. You don’t have to—"

Before he could finish, Enzo approached him, placing a hand on top of his head and ruffling his hair. "Thank you, Vincent. I owe you one."
