Chapter 145: To Make You Feel Better. 145

As soon as Adeline’s back touched the plush surface, he reached for the edges, folding one side over her, then the other, wrapping her up carefully until only her head and the slender stretch of her neck were left visible.

With her arms trapped beneath the cozy weight, Adeline stared up at him, speechless, eyes wide as she tried to process what had just happened.

She looked like a burrito. A very warm, very pampered burrito.

He slid his arms beneath her once again, lifting her and adjusting her position until she was sitting upright. He shifted the pillow behind her back and leaned her against the headboard, making sure she was comfortably propped up.

Adeline watched as he settled in front of her on the bed, wearing a proud little smile that bordered between smug and genuinely pleased with himself.

She tilted her head at him, her expression caught between confusion and mild amusement. "What is this?" she asked, lifting a brow, her voice colored with curiosity and a trace of laughter.

Enzo lifted a finger in the air like a professor about to deliver a lecture. "This is a method to make you feel better."

"Oh?"

He nodded earnestly. "I’ve seen this in a lot of shows. Usually, they wrap the person in a blanket, make them sit somewhere cozy, and then bring them ice cream or some kind of comfort food."

"But," he paused, leaning in to press a soft kiss to her temple, "since you no longer eat human food... A kiss will have to do the trick."

He leaned back, satisfied, his eyes scanning her face like a kid waiting for validation after a big performance.

Adeline stared at him for a second longer before letting out a snort that quickly dissolved into laughter, her shoulders shaking as her head tilted back against the headboard.

Enzo just sat there, watching her with the kind of smile only a hopelessly in-love man could wear—genuine, clueless, and absolutely delighted.

Wriggling her arms free from her blanket prison, Adeline wiped a small tear that had formed in the corner of her eye from laughing too hard. "What kind of shows have you been watching?" she asked, still giggling. "Wrapping me up and giving me a kiss won’t magically fix nausea."

But as the words left her mouth, her smile faltered a little, not out of discomfort or anything, but just realization. She blinked, looking down at her hand before instinctively pressing it to her forehead. The dizziness was gone. She hadn’t even realized when it passed.

The nausea, while still lingering faintly, had significantly dulled. It was barely a whisper of what it had been when she first stepped inside.

Her brows furrowed thoughtfully, and she rubbed her face with a hum. "Huh... I guess it kind of worked. I’m not dizzy anymore."

Enzo’s brows lifted in triumph. "See? I was right."

He inched closer to her, leaning in again before pressing a firm, smothering kiss to her cheek. It squished her face slightly and left her chuckling as she tried to push him away with her free hand, but he pulled back only to cup her face. His hand was warm against her skin, his fingers curling softly at her jaw as he turned her to face him fully.

Adeline’s eyes fluttered closed at his touch, and her hands lifted to his wrists, holding onto him as she rubbed her cheek against his palm like a content cat.

Enzo watched her with an expression that softened further, his thumb stroking gently across her cheekbone. Then, out of nowhere, he murmured, "Let’s go on a date tonight."

"Huh? A date?" She echoed, her eyes snapping open to look at him.

Enzo simply nodded once.

She blinked at him, a little stunned but not opposed. "Sure, but... I can’t eat food anymore. So, what would we even do?"

Enzo dropped his gaze briefly to the mattress as a breathless snicker escaped him. "A date doesn’t just mean going to restaurants, silly."

"Well, how would I know?" She shrugged. "I never really learned about this kind of stuff. My very first date was with you. Anyway, where do you suggest we go?"

His answer was immediate, like he’d been waiting for her to ask all along. "An amusement park."

"An amusement park?" she repeated.

"Mmhm."

He knew she’d say yes. He had spent hours the previous day thinking about it. He didn’t want to take her somewhere boring. Dinner was out of the question. The cinema? Already done that—and besides, he wanted to talk to her, laugh with her, and see her light up in ways that a quiet movie theater just didn’t allow.

He wanted something they could both enjoy, so he had browsed dozens of places. Everything either felt too dull for Adeline or would bore him to death.

Unable to find any good ones, he gave up and asked Andrei, who recommended they go to an amusement park.

Enzo had been to a few over the years, and he remembered enjoying them. There was nothing not to love about them, so he figured Adeline would love them too.

Adeline gave a small shrug and said, "Alright then. An amusement park sounds fun. I can barely even remember the last time I went to one."

Enzo, satisfied with her answer, moved the other hand up to her face, now cupping both cheeks. "Great. We’ll leave around seven or eight. You choose whichever one you prefer—I’m good with either."

Just then, the phone in his pocket buzzed, cutting through the moment. He sighed, reluctantly pulling it out and glancing at the screen. Without saying a word, he swiped to answer the call and pressed the phone to his ear, his expression shifting to a serious one as he listened.

He absentmindedly got up from the bed and began pacing, his voice responding in hums and short, low answers, nodding to whatever the caller was saying. The call ended soon after, and he slipped the phone back into his pocket before turning to her with an apologetic smile.

"That was from my company," he explained as he stepped closer to the bed. "I have to go for a bit. Nothing serious, just something that needs me to check in. Shouldn’t take more than thirty minutes, I promise."
