Chapter 20: Chapter 020: Looking down on her

Every girl is a delicate flower, the beloved treasure in their parents’ eyes, cherished and adored, yet these bastards had ground them to dust. Sienna Johnson’s heart filled with grief, and even more, with anger.

"...They were still so young. They hadn’t even gotten married or had children... Their lives should have been filled with countless possibilities, but now they could only come to an abrupt end," Sienna muttered in sorrow.

"Every person has their own fate!" Adrian Desmond had no such sympathy; his experiences had turned his heart as cold and hard as stone.

Weakness or kindness, from his perspective, are fatal.

Sienna sneered, her words dripping with irony, "What fate? Clearly, it’s just evildoers committing evil, and these girls are the ones who suffer."

Adrian had never liked meddling in others’ affairs. He had come only to take Sienna back; he had no interest in the other women.

"Mai, come with me!" Adrian reached out his hand, but Sienna, who was squatting, did not take it. Her expression was desolate, her face etched with grief.

"Mai!" Adrian’s voice carried a warning.

Sienna asked, "Can you send them home?"

"I’m very busy. I don’t have time for that!"

Sienna stood up, looking up at the much taller man, and said solemnly, "I don’t like being indebted to others. No matter what, you’ve saved me twice. I will repay you for saving my life."

"How will you repay me?"

"I will go back to Unnamed Island with you. But before that, there’s one thing I must do."

Adrian narrowed his eyes slightly. "Mai, what do you want to do?"

"These people are too evil..."

"And then...?"

"I can’t let this kind of thing happen again..." Resolve solidified in Sienna’s heart. She stood straighter, her gaze firm as she looked at Adrian.

Adrian’s eyes narrowed, a sharp light glinting within them. He asked coldly, "What do you mean?"

"I’m going to find that man called Uncle!"

Adrian suddenly burst into laughter. He looked at Sienna, his eyes filled with contempt. "Just you?"

"Yes, just me!" Sienna said, her voice unwavering.

Adrian unreservedly mocked her for the weak, crying state she had just been in. "Who was it just now," he scoffed, "clinging to my chest and crying like a pitiful wretch? A woman who only knows how to wail, and you want to find Uncle to exact revenge? Such overconfidence!"

"..."

"Mai, I always thought you were a smart woman. Now, it seems you’re truly foolish!"

Sienna looked away, dejected. Her gaze fell on the four dead women on the ground, and she remained silent.

Adrian continued, "Do you know who this Uncle is? Of course, you don’t. Here, let me tell you. If, after I’m done, you still have the courage to find Uncle and avenge these women who mean nothing to you, then I, Adrian Desmond, will admire you!"

Uncle, whose real name was Corrigan, was the leader of an anti-government armed faction in Himakati. He was greedy and lecherous, with sadistic tendencies. Countless women had died at his hands. Even those fortunate enough to survive were tortured for a few short years until they resembled withered old crones.

"...Uncle weighs over three hundred pounds, as fat as a pig. When these women were crushed beneath him, even if they didn’t die, they were left half-dead. Mai, I don’t know what kind of environment you come from, but here, mercy and kindness will get you killed."

"..."

"If you don’t think your life is too long, then put away your kindness. Don’t try to be Mother Maria. The Golden Triangle doesn’t believe in tears, only in fists! The harder the fist, the longer the life!" Adrian’s every word came from the heart, lessons learned from his own bloody, unforgettable experiences.

Adrian once again extended his hand to Sienna. She stared at it—broad, with long fingers and calluses. Sienna desperately wanted to place her hand in his strong palm, to seek his protection, but she couldn’t.

"No!" She took a step back, shaking her head gently, refusing Adrian once more.

Adrian was furious. He pointed at the dead women on the ground and shouted, "Mai, if I hadn’t shown up in time today, you would have ended up just like them! This jungle is full of wild animals. If you died, there wouldn’t even be a whole corpse left!"

Adrian was now fully aware of how stubborn Sienna could be; she wouldn’t listen to anything he said. Since harsh words failed, Adrian softened his tone, trying to persuade her. "Haven’t you always wanted to go back to see your father and Teddy? What are you doing now? How is what you’re doing any different from suicide?

"Did I go through all that trouble to save you just so you could kill yourself?" Adrian’s tone was aggressive, leaving her no room for argument. Sienna just stood there, her lips pressed tightly together, unyielding.

Her grandmother used to say she was stubborn; her father said she stuck to her principles. In truth, it was the same: once she decided something was right, she would pursue it relentlessly.

"Hmph..." Adrian scoffed coldly. "What are you scheming? Don’t tell me you’re trying to drag me into this... You know I dote on my son, so you want to use me as your pawn to get rid of Uncle, is that it?"

And if Uncle gets rid of me, he thought, that would suit her just fine. She could finally escape.

Sienna looked up at Adrian, stung by the look in his eyes. "...Don’t you dare underestimate me!" she said defiantly.

"Oh, I really do underestimate you!"

Adrian grabbed Sienna’s arm, dragged her over to the bound Charlie Parker, and shoved a gun into her hand. "You want to take out Uncle, right? Fine. Kill someone for me first. Show me you can do it!"

Sienna had never killed anyone. Although she had dissected many corpses, they were already dead. Adrian wouldn’t let her shrink back. Grabbing her hand, he positioned it on the gun, showing her how to use it. "Actually, it’s quite simple. You just need to know how to aim, then be brave enough to pull the trigger.

"Remember, when you kill someone, you can’t hesitate.

"In a split second, it’s either their life or yours!"

Cold sweat beaded on Charlie Parker’s forehead. He didn’t know who this man was, but his experience told him this was no ordinary person.

"I was wrong! Please, spare my life! I’ll never, ever do this kind of thing again..." Charlie Parker begged.

When death is imminent, everyone is afraid!

"I’ll kowtow to you! Just let me go!" Charlie Parker was terrified. The man before him wasn’t joking; he would actually kill him.

"Mai, save me, please! I beg you! I swear, I’ll never do this again! I’ll wash my hands of it for good! I’ll be a good person from now on!"

Ignoring Charlie Parker completely, Adrian patiently instructed Sienna on how to kill. "Don’t let your hand shake. If it shakes, you won’t aim properly.

"Very good. Aim, and then..."
