The Bigshot Married Himself to the Heiress-Chapter 520 - 521: She’s Been Wronged Quite a Lot Too
Sienna Johnson interrupted them. "You two continue. I’m going to see Madam Johnson’s attending physician and ask about her condition."
She had a short temper, and enduring their tirade until now was already her limit.
They were her elders, after all, and Sienna truly didn’t want to have a complete falling out with them.
"Madam Johnson, Madam Johnson, you still call her Madam Johnson? Did you not hear a single word I just said?!"
"Excuse me." Sienna inclined her head slightly, turned, and walked away, ignoring Grandma Briggs’s furious voice behind her.
Adrian Desmond, who had remained silent until then, spoke before leaving, "If you all feel Sienna can’t take proper care of Madam Johnson, and you’re uneasy about her staying with the Johnson Family, why not take Madam Johnson back to the Briggs Family?"
"And who are you? What right do you have to interfere in the affairs of the Briggs and Johnson families?"
Uncle knew Adrian’s identity, but thinking of him as someone who had merely married into the family, he didn’t take him seriously at all.
Adrian stood tall and imposing, looking down on the Briggs family members.
"My name is Adrian Desmond," he stated clearly. "Sienna Johnson is my woman!
"Sienna and I have repeatedly backed down, not because we fear you, but simply because you are elders. However, if you insist on disrespecting your age, then don’t blame us for being impolite!"
Birds of a feather flock together, it seems, Grandma Briggs thought, looking at the man before her with new respect. She hadn’t expected him to also be so sharp-tongued and defiant.
"Are you cursing me indirectly? Disrespecting my age, who do you think you’re scolding?" 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
Adrian finally understood Sienna’s frustration. It was impossible to reason with these people because they simply refused to listen to reason.
Feeling that even one more word to them would be a waste of time, Adrian turned and left the hospital room, hurrying after Sienna.
In the hospital corridor, Sienna strode quickly ahead, the hem of her skirt fluttering with her movements, revealing glimpses of her fair ankles.
Seeing that Sienna clearly wanted to be left alone, Adrian didn’t dare follow too closely, afraid she might walk even faster and accidentally stumble.
The hospital entrance was crowded with people and soliciting taxis. Worried that an absentminded Sienna might be hit by a car or bump into someone, Adrian quickened his pace and caught up to her in a few large strides.
"Where are you going? I’ll take you!"
"I want to walk by myself!" she snapped, shaking off Adrian’s hand and hurrying along the sidewalk.
She’s actually this furious? Adrian murmured to himself, watching her retreating figure.
Eventually, Sienna ducked into a Tea House, ordered a table laden with dishes, and began to eat voraciously, channeling all her grief and anger into her appetite. Adrian watched, dumbfounded, genuinely worried she would eat herself sick at this rate.
"What are you staring at me for? If you want to eat, then eat!" Sienna snapped, looking up and meeting Adrian’s gaze, feeling uncomfortable under his scrutiny.
"Still angry?"
Sienna replied with cutting sarcasm, "Angry? How would I dare be angry with them? Who are they? My elders? If they were to beat me, I’d probably have to kneel and thank them!"
"Let me handle them from now on. You don’t need to face them."
Sienna gradually calmed down. She put down her chopsticks and looked at the food, more than half of which she had devoured. A bitter smile touched her lips; she had been so consumed by anger that she’d lost all reason.
"She is my mother, after all. How can I not care for her when she’s in this state? If I truly didn’t show up, the Briggs family would eat me alive."
"Don’t take anything the Briggs family says to heart."
"Some of what they said is true. Madam Johnson, no matter what, is my mother. And before my father passed away, I promised him I would take good care of her.
"So, even if only for my father’s sake, I can’t possibly ignore her."
Across the table, he reached for her hand. "Do you realize how pale you look right now?" he said gently.
"I’m fine!" she insisted, her expression stubborn.
"You don’t have to pretend with me. If you’re not tired of it, I am."
Sienna looked up at the man before her, her eyes red-rimmed. Her large, beautiful eyes welled with tears, becoming misty and hazy.
"Adrian, I’m so miserable..." The grievances in her heart surged like a bursting dam. "What on earth does Madam Johnson want? What did I do so wrong that she’d try to kill herself?!" She poured out all the bitterness in her heart.
"Haven’t I done enough? I’ve given her everything I possibly could, and even things I shouldn’t have. What more does she want from me? Does she expect our relationship to be like hers and Sabrina Johnson’s?
"But I’m not Sabrina Johnson! I’m Sienna Johnson! For the first thirteen years of my life, Pauline Briggs wasn’t a mother to me! And after that, my own biological mother showered her maternal affection on a woman who bullied, violated, and nearly killed me!
"The Briggs family calls me unfilial, but why don’t they stop and think? What about Madam Johnson? Why don’t they consider what she’s done in the past?
"How can an unfit mother expect to raise a dutiful daughter?
"Yes, Madam Johnson has finally seen Sabrina’s true colors and drawn a line between them. But Madam Johnson and I never truly cultivated a mother-daughter bond in the first place. How are we supposed to have some deep connection now?"
Adrian held her hand tightly. It was trembling slightly from her anger, and her fair face was flushed.
"I know. I understand it all."
This woman remembered the good deeds of others, but she remembered the bad ones even more keenly. Pauline Briggs had once betrayed her emotions, yet Sienna had already treated Madam Johnson well enough.
"You don’t understand! Adrian, how could you possibly understand how I feel? Do you have any idea how much I hate being Pauline Briggs’s daughter?!
"Why couldn’t my biological mother have been Rose Collins?
"Why can other mothers protect their children, create a safe haven for them, but mine not only fails to do that but actively drags me down?
"In the Johnson family, the one who makes me most uneasy isn’t Curly, not Samara, but this Madam Johnson!
"She’s soft-hearted and can’t distinguish good people from bad, yet she’s always convinced she’s right. When she stirs up trouble, all she does is cry and expect me to clean up her messes!"
The Briggs family certainly had their complaints about Sienna, and Sienna, in turn, had just as many about them.
Adrian didn’t stop Sienna, letting her cry and vent. She needed to release the emotions pent up in her heart.
Her phone rang at an inopportune moment. It was Second Uncle. Knowing he was a relatively reasonable person, Sienna answered.
"Second Uncle, this is Sienna."
"Sienna, your mother is awake. Come over."
"Okay, I’ll be right there."
After hanging up, Second Uncle recalled Sienna’s tone. Her voice had been remarkably calm, betraying no hint of her true emotions—be it happiness, anger, sadness, or joy.
