Chapter 108: The Doll’s Acquaintances and Their Parental Issues

Eternity rubbed her chin and stared down at the carpeted floor of the living room.

"I only know a few people, yet why do those few people all have parental issues?"

Both Evan and Freiheit raised their eyebrows at her.

"Evan, I understand," Freiheit said slowly before pointing at himself for emphasis. "but 𝘮𝘦...?"

"No, she’s right," Evan said with an utterly serious tone. "You’re one of us."

He scoffed, aggressively shaking his head in denial.

"Don’t label me as if I’m the same as the likes of you!"

"But you are, Freiheit," Evan said in a low voice. "You are."

Before Freiheit could curl down on the floor and cry words of denial, Evan shifted his attention to Eternity.

"To answer your question, Eternity," he began. "You’d be surprised at how many fucked-up adults there are in this world because of how their parents failed them as children."

Eternity merely hummed, continuing to rub her chin as she took Evan’s words seriously. Finally, she snapped out of her reverie and gave Evan a deep look.

"So," she dragged on. "Now that the obvious has been stated, how can we fix this situation?"

"Simple," Freiheit said, as if he were just talking about the weather. "You fire her."

Eternity gasped, placing an offended hand on her chest. "Aren’t you being a bit too harsh?"

"Well, that was my initial plan as well." Evan nodded at his own admission.

"Not you, too," she said, darting her eyes at Evan, glaring intensely.

Evan could only shrug as he replied defensively.

"Well, Eternity, what else can we do here?" He asked pointedly. "What if she does more than just confess to you? Like--"

"You think she would sexually assault me?" she uttered, her tone in complete disbelief that Evan would even have it in himself to think that the young tutor was capable of doing such a thing.

"Those are your words, not mine," Evan said in an even tone. "But yes, she could possibly do such a thing to you."

"She wouldn’t!" Eternity insisted, raising her voice a little more than her normal volume, causing the two men to look at her incredulously. "I know her, Evan! She’s the sweetest girl ever!"

"That, I have to agree with," Freiheit said, nodding at her direction. "But remember, Eternity, you’re 𝘺𝘰𝘶."

She furrowed her eyebrows together, propping her arms to her chest.

"What is that supposed to mean?"

It didn’t take a genius to guess that Freiheit said the wrong thing and was now going to face the consequences of his poor choice of words.

Freiheit glanced at Evan, making a silent plea for help. Evan sighed as he stood up from his seat and headed to the large window of the living room, completely ignoring Freiheit’s begging.

"Freiheit," Eternity pressed on, her tone increasingly sounding irritated. "What do you 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯?"

Freiheit let out a helpless sigh before he spoke.

"I know that 𝘺𝘰𝘶 know you have the tendency to attract people’s attention." Noticing that her forehead wrinkled even more in offense, Freiheit continued to explain, "I think it’s an Eternity Woman thing. Right, Evan?"

Freiheit said his brother’s name with emphasis, forcing Evan to turn around and look at them with wide blue eyes.

"Is it?" Evan asked in surprise.

"You said so yourself," Freiheit reminded him. "You said that Eternity tends to make other people fall in love with her."

"I thought it was an Eternity thing," he said, blinkingly blankly. "Not an Eternity Woman thing."

"Well, I assumed it was the latter," Freiheit said, crossing his arms to his chest. "She couldn’t possibly attract people’s attention through her sheer charm, right?"

"Why are you talking about me as if I’m not even here?" Eternity groans in irritation, burying her face in the palms of her hand.

"Sorry," both men muttered in a low voice.

But Eternity wasn’t having any of it. She refused to remove her hands from her face, her body growing rigid as if saying that she had no plans of removing them anytime soon.

Evan, with a nervous sigh, walked toward the sofa and kneeled in front of Eternity, running his hands and rubbing his palm on Eternity’s smooth, porcelain arms.

"Hey," he whispered gently. "I’m sorry, we didn’t mean to exclude you from the conversation."

Freiheit, from his seat, watched the display in front of him in great awe.

’How fascinating to hear Evan speak this gently towards a woman!’ Freiheit thought. ’To hear him even say the word ’sorry’... Eternity must’ve really made a number on him!’

Raising her head but still keeping her face covered, Eternity peeked at him through the spaces between her fingers. Evan couldn’t help but have the corner of his lips twitch into a little curve.

"You’re so cute," he cooed, running his fingers on the locks of her long, red hair.

"Praising me won’t lessen my irritation towards you!" Eternity sneered, though her voice was muffled because of her hand. "And you!" She turned her head to Freiheit accusingly, though he couldn’t quite see her expression to see if it really was accusing.

"I’m sorry, Eternity," Evan repeated, his voice becoming even softer than before. "Please don’t get angry with me anymore."

Slowly, Eternity removed her hands from covering her face. Evan couldn’t help but smile at her antics, which he admittedly would’ve found annoying if it was another woman who did it.

Then, a realization struck Evan.

"No, Freiheit," he declared as he shook his head and stood up from his position. "It’s not an Eternity Woman thing. It’s an Eternity thing."

Freiheit sighed.

"Whatever suits your fancy," he said in defeat. "So, what’s your decision, Eternity?"

"Me?" Eternity gasped, pointing at herself. "Wait, I still haven’t forgiven you--"

"I’m serious," Freiheit said with a tone indicating that he was. "Now that I’ve given you context for Olivia’s mommy issues--"

"Don’t say it like that!" Eternity frowned in repulsion. "You make it sound so dirty--"

"That’s the point," Freiheit said. "It 𝘪𝘴 dirty. She’s projecting her issues onto you, and knowing the fact that she’s doing that, can you honestly say that you’re still fine with having Olivia as your tutor?"
