Chapter 130: Logic Be Damned!

Eternity sighed in irritation, pulling down her pencil skirt that persistently hiked up, revealing more of her thighs and legs than she was comfortable with.

Thank goodness she was wearing pantyhose; otherwise, everyone could see her exposed skin!

Returning to her desk, she tried to gather her bearings, still rattled by the situation. As she settled into her seat, she noticed a few male colleagues peering at her from their cubicles. When her eyes accidentally met one of theirs, he quickly looked away, pretending to be busy.

Eternity frowned but didn’t say anything.

"Miss Doll," a voice called out.

She turned and saw a very concerned Jakob walking toward her desk.

"Jakob!" she greeted back. "What do I owe you the plea—"

Before she could finish her sentence, Jakob removed his office blazer and handed it to her. Eternity blinked a couple of times in confusion, trying to process what he wanted her to do with his blazer.

Seeing her confusion, Jakob looked away, his cheeks turning a deep shade of red. He whispered something in a low voice.

"Pardon?" Eternity asked, tilting her head slightly.

Jakob cleared his throat, adjusting his collar as if it had suddenly tightened around his neck. "To cover yourself," he said louder this time. "Your le—lower half, I mean."

Eternity’s green eyes widened as a wave of embarrassment hit her.

’He must’ve seen me adjusting my skirt,’ she thought to herself. ’Or maybe he noticed that other people were staring at me because of it.’

Although a bit hesitant, Eternity accepted the blazer. It was still warm, and it smelled faintly of Jakob’s woody-scented eau de parfum.

"Thank you, Jakob," she smiled gently, draping the blazer over her lap. "I was starting to feel a bit self-conscious about it, and you arrived just in time."

"No problemo," he grinned, finally meeting her gaze.

"Tsk," one of their male colleagues muttered loudly from his cubicle. "What a fucking white knight."

"He isn’t a white knight," another chimed in. "He’s just gay."

They continued to snicker, as if Jakob’s sexual orientation was the most hilarious topic ever.

Upon hearing their jabs, Eternity felt her blood boil. She considered herself non-confrontational, but sometimes people just pushed her buttons too far.

She removed the blazer from her lap and placed it on her desk. Abruptly, she stood up, causing her office chair to roll back behind her.

"Miss Doll?" Jakob said, sensing the sudden change in her mood.

"Please wait a bit," she said, about to charge toward their colleagues’ cubicle.

But Jakob grabbed her wrist before she could take another step, stopping her from executing her diabolic plan.

"Hey," he whispered, "it’s fine, Miss Doll. You don’t need to tell them off."

"Ogling at me because of my skirt is one thing I could let go, but them making snide remarks about you because of your sexual orientation is something I cannot let pass!" Eternity paused, realizing something. "Wait, are you...?"

He pressed his lips together, forming a straight line. After a second, he nodded.

"I didn’t mean to hide it," Jakob said softly. "It’s just... I don’t think my sexuality has any connection to work or my work ethic."

"It doesn’t," Eternity affirmed, grabbing his hands and giving them a soft squeeze. "Your sexuality doesn’t concern them either, so they had no right to out you like that."

"I wouldn’t necessarily say they ’outed’ me." He laughed dryly. "It’s an open secret in the office. But still, you know, I would prefer to keep my personal life private. Those jerks just love to make a scene."

Eternity’s expression softened, but the resolve in her voice didn’t waver. "They had no right to ridicule you like that."

Jakob smiled gently. "I appreciate it, Miss Doll. Really, I do. But picking a fight won’t change their minds. It’ll just make things worse."

She sighed in frustration. She looked like she didn’t want to back down, but gave in just because Jakob told her to.

"You’re right," Eternity said in defeat. "It just makes me so angry that at this time and age, people are still being homophobic."

"I know," he said, squeezing her hand back in reassurance. "But let’s not give them the satisfaction of knowing they got to us. We’ll handle this with grace."

Eternity nodded reluctantly.

"Fine. But if they do this again, I won’t stay quiet forever."

Jakob’s smile and gratitude were written all over his face.

"That’s the spirit, Miss Doll."

"So, who the hell were the perverts ogling you this morning?" Evan asked, taking a sip of the freshly brewed coffee Eternity had made for him.

She froze. Eternity stared at him with her wide green eyes, completely dumbfounded by what she had heard.

"How’d you know about that?" she asked curiously.

"A little bird told me," Evan teased, setting his now-empty cup of coffee on the table.

She frowned deeply at him but didn’t say anything more.

"What do you want me to do with them?" he pressed. "Should I fire them?"

"No!" Eternity immediately shouted. Realizing that she had spoken too loudly, she lowered her voice. "There are labor laws, Evan. We don’t want them to sue you for wrongful termination."

Evan shrugged. "My lawyer can handle them."

Eternity rolled her eyes so dramatically she almost saw her brain.

"That’s just plain power tripping," she pointed out disapprovingly.

"Disciplinary action, perhaps?" he suggested, not planning to let go of the topic soon.

"It’s fine, Evan," she groaned in exasperation. "You don’t need to do anything to them for my sake. I’ll just wear trousers starting tomorrow."

"You’ll do what?" Evan’s voice suddenly became stern, startling her slightly. "You’ll do no such thing!"

She blinked in surprise.

"Why not? If it makes them stop staring—"

"You shouldn’t have to change how you dress because of their behavior," Evan interrupted firmly. "They need to learn to respect you and everyone else in this office."

"That’s quite a not-so-misogynist statement you made there," Eternity joked, even though she knew that this was a serious conversation.

Thankfully, Evan didn’t seem offended and simply smiled at her.

"You changed me, after all." 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

Her cheeks suddenly felt hot, and she wouldn’t be surprised if her whole face turned completely crimson. She still wasn’t sure how this was possible since she had no blood in the first place.

But logic be damned!

’Such a simple sentence, yet it would’ve made my heart skip a beat if I had one.’ Eternity thought to herself, and the smile that wanted to appear on her lips had fully bloomed.

"Okay, Evan," she said, bringing the conversation to the topic at hand. "But please, be careful with how you handle it."

He nodded, a determined look in his eyes. "Just trust me, Eternity. You’re part of this team now, and I won’t let anyone disrespect you."

Eternity felt a warm feeling of gratitude towards Evan. "Thank you."

Eternity paused as an idea came to her suddenly.

"Can you also punish them for what they did to Jakob?" she asked, just trying her luck.

"Oh?" Evan raised an eyebrow, his curiosity piqued. "Did they do something to one of my favorite employees, Mister Jakob Schmidt?"

Eternity looked at him with eyes of determination, an uncharacteristically vengeful smile forming on her lips.

"Yes," she affirmed. "Yes, they did."
