Chapter 46: The Doll Standing her Ground

"Yes," Eternity admitted calmly, holding Cynthia’s gaze with unwavering resolve. "Yes, I was."

"Now that the cat is out of the bag," Cynthia released a deep sigh, her amusement evident as she spoke sarcastically. "I guess there’s no need to pretend I like you, huh?"

"Likewise." Eternity replied as she narrowed her eyes.

Cynthia seemed taken aback by the flip in Eternity’s personality.

But to be honest, even Eternity herself was surprised that she was capable of having a bitchy side that was a complete contradiction to the "shy and innocent" personality that Evan wanted her to maintain.

Of course, although she adapted to her lover’s preferences and followed Evan’s orders, Eternity didn’t want to be treated like a mere doormat that Cynthia could step into and have her disunity compromised just to appease Evan.

Also, Eternity wanted to add that it’s not like Evan was there to see this side of her, was he?

The two women locked eyes, their glaring contest creating a tense atmosphere that you needed a chainsaw to break. And if looks could kill, they probably fought each other to death.

"Did nobody teach you at home that eavesdropping is bad?" Cynthia taunted, raising an eyebrow and crossing her arms with a feigned air of superiority.

"Did nobody teach you?" Eternity mimicked Cynthia’s mocking tone and expression. "That you shouldn’t be rummaging through other people’s fridges and taking food from their pantries without permission?"

Cynthia gasped loudly, looking quite offended.

"Are you fat-shaming me?"

Eternity looks at her in confusion.

"Where did you even get that?"

She couldn’t even finish her sentence, and Cynthia once again cut her off.

Eternity could see a pattern in Cynthia’s behavior.

Cynthia didn’t like listening to others talk, but she loved it when other people’s attention was completely on her.

This was more or less an evident sign of her desire for attention. But to put it simply, she was quite an attention whore.

"Excuse me, you self-starving bitch!" She shouted loudly, and Eternity suddenly felt worried that Evan might check on them and see that they were having a catfight. "If I had no PCOS and other medical conditions, I would’ve been sexier than you are!"

Eternity frowned.

"I hate your double-faced personality," Eternity admitted. "But I would never stoop so low as to attack your appearance."

This seemed to startle Cynthia.

She was literally dumbstruck and was unable to say anything. Eternity realized that, judging from her reaction, Cynthia might’ve experienced many jabs concerning her weight.

So, to hear someone openly hate her because of her personality and not because of her appearance was enough to make her speechless.

After a few seconds, Cynthia regained her composure and glared coldly at Eternity.

The doll returned the look defiantly and gave an unflinching stare. Cynthia’s annoyance radiated off her in waves, while Eternity appeared unaffected by the hostility directed at her.

Cynthia’s lips curled into an arrogant smile, her tone dripping with sarcasm.

"You know, Eternity, you’re something else!" She said it as if she were praising her, but Eternity fully knew she meant otherwise. "Invading my privacy and then acting all innocent about it? You’re more disgusting than a sneaky rat."

"Let’s not pretend like you’re a saint here." Eternity jabbed back, her playful expression never disappearing. "Accusing someone of being a girlfriend-for-hire is a great allegation."

"It’s not an allegation if it’s true."

Eternity scoffed.

"And your proof being?"

"I could ask the same from you." Cynthia rebutted. "What’s your proof that you aren’t just a paid whore?"

Eternity wanted to argue, but she knew fully well that she had no evidence to prove her claims.

"Cat got your tongue?" A wicked and taunting smile was on Cynthia’s lips.

"I’m not obligated to tell you anything, Cynthia."

Cynthia’s expression made a complete picture of what she was thinking: She knew Eternity was right. But she still wasn’t going to back down.

Cynthia was hard-headed like that.

"Even if, for some fucking miracle, you really are Evan’s girlfriend, what kind of voodoo magic or love potion did you feed him to make him like someone like you?"

"Is there anything wrong with me?" Eternity frowned.

Cynthia snorted as if the answer was already obvious and Eternity was stupid enough to even think for herself. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

She walked closer to Eternity so they could stand face-to-face, although Cynthia’s head was slightly tilted up because of their great height difference.

Still, Cynthia tried to be imposing with her small height.

"You’re nothing, Eternity." She spat out the word ’nothing’ like it was enough to summarize Eternity’s whole being. "While my brother is handsome, smart, rich, and everything a woman could hope for in a man!"

Her tone shifted to dreamy, as if just thinking about her brother made her legs jelly.

Eternity finally understood what Cynthia meant when she proclaimed herself a brocon. It made Eternity sick to her stomach, and she had no digestive functions to even feel like that in the first place.

"So I tell me, Eternity, if that’s even your real name," Cynthia added the last comment as an afterthought. "If you were truly Evan’s girlfriend, you’re probably just some gold-digging social climber."

Eternity never felt this strong feeling before in her short lifespan of being activated, but her hands were itching. It was as if her hands were telling Eternity that she should bitchslap this woman before her.

But Eternity knew that she shouldn’t.

She knew that Evan would be very disappointed in her if he knew that Eternity had started a fight with his sister. Eternity was absolutely sure that he might end up hating her if he found that Eternity hurt his beloved younger sister.

Even if she deserved it.

Probably.

Most likely.

Most definitely.

"My name truly is Eternity Doll," she clarified, her tone very declarative. "And I am not a paid whore or a golddigger that merely needs money from Evan. I am truly in love with him, and we are in a relationship. I don’t know what’s your deal, Cynthia, but—"

"I am completely head over heels for Eternity."

Both women looked at the source of the voice, which can be found in the short hallway.

It was Evan.

Cynthia looked taken aback, unsure how to react to what Evan had just said.

"You’re kidding me, right?" Her gaze darted between Evan and Eternity and then back to her brother. "You can’t be serious right now, Evan!"
