The CEO's Seductive Doll-Chapter 47: Doll’s Weird Hypnotic Whatever
Eternity didn’t pay the other Holz any mind. She was too happy with what she just heard. Her heart, which she was not sure if it actually existed, felt like it started thumping loudly at her chest because of Evan’s words.
She turned to face him fully, her expression softening as she met his gaze.
He might not have said that he loved her directly, but for now, this was enough.
Evan walked towards the two ladies before standing by Eternity’s side.
"Eternity is nowhere close to being a user," he said to Cynthia. "She’s not after my money or status. We have a genuine connection, and she made me feel things that I thought I wasn’t capable of feeling."
Cynthia’s disbelief seemed to give way to a hint of realization. She studied her brother’s face, unsure what to make out of it—if it was just another set of lies or if Evan was finally telling the truth.
The room was tense, so tense that you could slice it with a knife, and it still had no markings or signs of breaking.
Eternity unconsciously took a step closer to Evan, her pinky finger briefly brushing against his. What seemed like just a mere accident of their skin touching took a sudden turn as Evan suddenly took hold of her hand, interlacing their fingers together.
His icy-blue eyes met Eternity’s moss-green ones as she raised her head to look at him. He gave her an assuring smile, and Eternity gave him a nod as both of them returned their gaze to Cynthia, who had a skeptical expression on her face.
"Evan," she said, frowning deeply. "You know I’m just worried about you."
Evan nodded, acknowledging his sister’s concern.
"I understand that, Cynthia, and I appreciate it," he assured her. "But I trust Eternity more than anyone in the world. I also believe that what we have is more than real, more real than any relationship I’ve ever had."
’Which wasn’t a lot,’ Evan wanted to add since, as you already know, he thought of women as lowly creatures. The concept of wanting to be with one disgusted him intensely before.
But everything changed when Evan met Eternity.
"Are you sure she didn’t do some weird hypnotic whatever to you?" Cynthia asked, and Eternity didn’t know if she was joking or just plain desperate to make Eternity a bad person.
"I’m sure," Evan said, though there was also a hint of confusion on his face as if he was mirroring what Eternity was thinking.
Cynthia didn’t look convinced.
But after a full minute, her shoulders slumped in defeat. Cynthia let out a deep sigh, folding her arms across her chest to signify her stubbornness but inevitably accepting at face value what her brother just announced.
"Fine," Cynthia said in an annoyed tone. "I’ll accept this relationship of yours, Evan. But once you found out that she’s just a gold-digging whore, don’t say that I didn’t warn you."
Eternity widened her green eyes, consequently raising her eyebrows and wrinkling her forehead in response to what she heard.
’Why was Cynthia acting all self-important?’ Eternity thought. ’It’s not like Evan was a child that needed his sister’s permission to enter a relationship. His younger sister, at that.’ She added the word ’younger’ emphasized in her head as an afterthought.
Evan stepped closer to his sister, his voice gentle as he spoke.
"Cynthia, I promise you that Eternity means a lot to me." His tone was full of warmth as he gave Eternity a sideward glance to prove a point, not just to Cynthia but to his lover as well. "I understand your concerns, but I hope you’ll see what I see."
"I’ll try, Evan," Cynthia’s gaze shifted between Evan and Eternity this time. "I’ll try to give her a chance."
"Thank you," Evan smiled gently, an expression that was a rare sight to behold.
Eternity’s eyes darted to Cynthia’s face.
Judging from Cynthia’s blushing cheeks, she was also in awe to see Evan show this side of him.
’What a brocon,’ Eternity wanted to say out loud, but it seemed like Cynthia’s hostility already melted away.
Cynthia walked closer to Eternity, extending her hand as if she were handing the olive branch.
"Let’s do a truce," Cynthia said, smiling. "For Evan’s sake."
Eternity wasn’t sure if Cynthia’s smile was a real one or not. Still, Eternity took her hand and gave it a firm grip as she shook it.
"For Evan’s sake," Eternity agreed. "Thank you, Cynthia. I genuinely want you to know I care about Evan’s happiness."
Cynthia nodded, though a hint of distaste was still visible in her eyes.
"Well, you better not disappoint." She said, almost sounding like a warning. "My brother deserves the best."
Evan grinned, the tension dissipating even further. "Trust me, I’m in good hands."
Just as Cynthia was about to say something, her phone in the pocket of her denim jeans began vibrating.
Without excusing herself, she fished out her phone and placed it to her ear to answer it.
"Hello?"
’She really lacked manners...’ Eternity thought as she gave Cynthia a disapproving look.
Evan caught this, and he made a weary smile, mouthing a ’Sorry’ in Eternity’s direction. Eternity didn’t say anything but merely nodded in response.
Both of them couldn’t hear what the voice in the line was saying. Hell, they didn’t even know who Cynthia was talking to. But judging from how Cynthia’s face turned deathly pale, it must’ve been bad news. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
After a few minutes, Cynthia bid farewell to the person on the line before ending the call. She turned to look at Evan, her displeasure prominent on her face.
For some reason, Eternity felt a strong sense of déjà vu at the scene before her.
The Holz siblings were too alike for her comfort.
"Who was it?" Evan probed.
"Freiheit," She replied tersely.
"And?"
"And," Cynthia repeated Evan’s words with much unneeded emphasis. "He wanted to see me."
"I thought you and Freiheit were close?" Eternity asked, her curiosity getting the best of her, although she quickly realized she might have overstepped her boundaries.
"We were," Cynthia tried her best not to sneer at Eternity, but a hint of it accidentally showed itself even if she was in front of Evan. "But things... got a little complicated."
