The CEO's Seductive Doll-Chapter 51: Getting K.O.-ed by the Doll
Eternity rolled her eyes so hard that she swore she saw her brain.
But instead of retaliating like "most women did" (she emphasized inside her head, mocking Evan even if he couldn’t possibly hear her thoughts), whenever Evan made highly misogynistic statements like just now, she merely took a deep sigh.
She took a step back to create some distance.
She then looked at him with her bright green eyes, smiling.
For some reason, it irritated Evan to no end.
Were they finally experiencing the phenomenon that he was so afraid might happen in their relationship: when the most endearing quality of their partner slowly started becoming the trait they hated the most?
He shook his head.
’No, I’m just annoyed right now. There’s no way that I would come to hate Eternity.’
"I’m happy," Eternity said softly, gently. "I don’t know what I’ll do if you ever come to hate me."
His icy-blue eyes widened, and his mouth slightly opened as if he were planning to say something. Yet, no words came out of his lips.
"No, Evan," Eternity chuckled. "I can’t read minds. You just wear your heart on your sleeve, that’s all."
Evan found it ironic that just moments ago, he was assuring her that she wasn’t easy to read. But now, she was telling him that he was.
"Well?" Evan said, waiting. "Aren’t you going to say anything?"
"About what?"
"Don’t act as if you don’t know, Eternity." Evan narrowed his eyes. "To what I just said."
"Do you want me to say something about it?"
Evan didn’t say anything, not quite knowing the answer to her question himself.
"Did you say those words just to get a response from me?" Eternity asked again, with a hint of bluntness in her tone.
Once again, Evan’s silence served as his reply.
Eternity looked down with a bitter smile on her lips. "I knew it."
After a few seconds, she finally looked up again to look at him with her wide green eyes that usually mesmerized him, but now it made him feel small to be subjected to such a piercing gaze.
"Remember, Evan," she began. "I said just the other night that I’m willing to wait for you to outgrow your prejudice against women. After all, your attitude wasn’t formed overnight, and there was no way it would disappear as fast."
A stifled sob escaped Eternity, and Evan belatedly realized how much his words had hurt her.
"But I would be lying if I said it’s not painful for me whenever you say this."
She tried her best to stop her voice from shaking and showing weakness. Yet her tears were freely falling, ruining all her efforts to act and remain strong.
"You told me you would try, Evan." Eternity’s voice quivered in disappointment. "But you don’t seem like you are."
Evan closed his eyes, pinching the bridge of his nose in frustration.
"I can’t."
She frowned, knitting her eyebrows together, and her tears seemed to dry up almost immediately. It seemed like this wasn’t the direction of the conversation that Eternity had in mind.
"What?" Eternity whispered; it seemed like she was very careful with her tone.
’It must’ve sucked, huh?’ Evan thought. ’When you fall in your own trap?’
"I can’t with your drama." He said it louder this time, even if Evan knew fully well that Eternity had heard him the first time. "We keep on fighting. You keep on pointing out my flaws that are not even there in the first place.
"See!" Eternity cut him off, her voice evidently seething in anger even with just one word. "You don’t even acknowledge that your misogyny is a problem!"
"It only became a problem when you entered my life."
Eternity’s face appeared as if someone had doused her with ice-cold water. It was as if she didn’t expect Evan to say something so hurtful.
She struggled to find her voice, yet she managed to utter, "What?"
But then again, Evan managed to call his sibling, his dear Cynthia, a whale and even beat up his best mate and brother, Freiheit.
What else couldn’t he do to hurt those important to him?
"You’ve been nothing but a nuisance since you arrived." Evan’s frustration was evident in his voice, his patience wearing thin. "This is draining."
Eternity’s voice trembled as she asked, her heart cracking. "What are you trying to say, Evan?"
"I never wanted you, Eternity." He continued, not even trying to mince his words anymore. "You just entered my life against my will. I didn’t even want a girlfriend in the first place, yet here you are – demanding, annoying, and just plain difficult."
"Excuse me?" Eternity exclaimed, her tone evidently dissatisfied with the term he used to describe her.
"You heard me," Evan retorted with a scoff. "You’re being a bitch."
"How am I being a bitch if–"
"There!" Evan interjected, not allowing her to finish. "Exactly!"
"But I haven’t even done anything!"
"You thought you didn’t," Evan shot back, his eyes narrowing and his hand emphasizing his point. "But you did!"
"Now you’re just gaslighting me." Eternity shook her head, giving up on their conversation entirely. "You’re being unreasonable."
She turned her heels and headed to her room to escape from Evan. Yet Evan followed her to the hallway and grabbed her wrist, a tight grip on it that made Eternity wince in pain.
"Don’t fucking run away from me!" He shouted, his voice echoing through the hallway. "I’m still talking to you."
"Evan," Eternity warned, her voice taking on a sharp edge as she gestured towards his hand, still clamped around her wrist. "Let Go. Now."
"Yeah?" Evan challenged defiantly. "What will you do? Slap me–"
It shouldn’t be a surprise, given Evan’s attitude, but he was prone to fistfights growing up. Hell, he used to get violent with Freiheit, even though they were best friends. In his twenty-eight years of living, he never experienced getting knocked out by just one hit.
Yet for some reason, when Eternity punched him straight in the face, he was knocked out cold in a mere second.
