Chapter 68: They Tried

"Damn, that seems like a plot from a K-drama!" Edelweiss exclaimed. "Imagine that: a CEO falling in love with a waitress!"

Eternity laughed nervously, relieved that Edelweiss was taking in this story a lot better than Cynthia did.

Just in time, Evan arrived. He was holding a tray containing three plain-looking hotdog sandwiches and three bottles of water.

"Aw!" Edelweiss cooed. "You even bought us some food! How gentlemanly of you!"

"You’re still going to pay me for this," Evan said, serving the food and drinks on the table.

"Tsk!" She clicked her tongue. "You’re not so gentlemanly after all!"

Evan scoffed, sitting on his chair. "Whoever said that I was one?"

Just as Edelweiss was about to retort, her phone began ringing again.

"I got to answer this." Edelweiss already looked tired, even without hearing what the call was about. "Excuse me for a bit."

Now, the two were alone and left to their own devices.

Eternity pointed at the third sandwich and bottle with a look of confusion. "Is that supposed to be mine?"

"Yes, sorry," Evan said, scratching the back of his head. "I just thought Edelweiss would find it weird if I bought food for her but not for you."

"She might think you’re starving me," Eternity giggled.

Evan nodded, his eyebrows scrunched in worry. "Good thing she had to answer a call, or else you’d be forced to eat it."

"I could just chew it and spit it out later!" She suggested.

"She’d notice it," Evan pointed out. "So far, we haven’t encountered a situation where you’d be forced to eat to keep face in front of other people. But what if you do?"

Eternity looked as if she had actually given it some thought.

"I could just swallow it in the meantime," she said, though she looked scared at the thought. "But then I have to vomit it once I’m alone."

"Would it affect your stomach if you didn’t?" Evan asked. "Well, if you had a stomach in the first place,"

Eternity hummed, trying to think of a way to explain her bodily mechanism in layman’s terms.

"You know how a car’s engine breaks down if water is mixed with its fuel?"

Evan nodded.

"Something similar happens to an Eternity Woman if we ingest human food instead of, well, you know." 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

’Semen,’ Evan thought to himself, nodding once again.

"Good thing there are mechanics for cars," Eternity chuckled. "If we want an Eternity Women’s mechanic, we have to go to Manika!"

Evan knitted his eyebrows together.

"Was that supposed to be a joke?"

Eternity looked down, a blush settling on her cheeks.

"At least you tried." Evan leaned forward, tucking a long strand of hair behind her ear.

Eternity looked at him shyly, biting her lips.

"Aaaaand," Edelweiss announced, walking to their table. "The moment I left you two alone, you started flirting like lovebirds. How sweet."

Evan rolled his eyes. Meanwhile, Eternity’s blush deepened.

"Kidding aside," Edelweiss began with a heavy heart. "I have to go."

"Already?" Eternity gasped.

Edelweiss nodded. "Sadly, I need to catch the nearest flight to Varia to check on our brewery. Apparently, the situation there was more serious than I anticipated. "

Eternity looked down on the ground, looking quite crest-fallen.

"I see..." she uttered glumly.

"Don’t worry," Edelweiss assured, petting Eternity’s head as if she were a puppy. "I’ll contact you again once I get back to Berlin. I promise to hang out with you again when I do!"

"You know, I’m getting worried that you’re getting too attached to Eternity," Evan muttered.

Edelweiss shifted her attention to Evan, petting him on the head as well. He immediately slapped her hands off his hair.

"I’m no longer a kid, Edelweiss."

Eternity smiled faintly. "But you’re still what I consider a non-blood-related little brother."

Evan crossed his arms, scowling at her words. But deep inside, he wanted to reciprocate her actions of fondness if only she hadn’t treated him like a fool ever since this day started.

"Anyway," Edelweiss said, returning to their original topic. "I’ll be going now. See you guys in... a few months or so."

Eternity stood up from her chair and gave her a tight hug, surprising both CEOs. But Edelweiss returned it, smiling gently.

"I’ll miss you, too, Eternity."

Once Eternity pulled away, Evan stood up as well and offered Edelweiss a handshake.

"My," she said, giggling as she firmly shook his hand. "My little brother is all grown up and all formal!"

"Shut up," Evan growled, though his next set of words were uttered with tenderness. "I’ll see you again soon, Edelweiss."

"See you soon!" she grinned. "Little brother."

Once Edelweiss left, they returned to sitting in their seats. As Evan was munching on his sandwich, he gave a glance at the table and realized that Edelweiss hadn’t even touched hers.

"That woman..." Evan mumbled as he finished his food, shaking his head in disbelief.

"Evan," Eternity said softly, almost childishly, pointing at a specific location on the amusement park map. "Can we?"

He peered at what she was pointing at, only to see a drawing of a Ferris wheel.

"Sure, but what’s special about it?" he asked, giving her a quizzical look.

"According to my analysis, when we step foot inside," Eternity began. "Ferris wheels are the most romantic ride in an amusement park. There’s also an interesting myth about it going on all over the world."

"Which is?" Evan raised an eyebrow.

"If a pair of lovers kiss at the highest point of a Ferris wheel, their relationship will last forever."

Evan wrinkled his forehead, blinking blankly. "I’ve never heard of that before."

"Really?" Eternity gasped. "Maybe it’s not as well-known as I thought it was."

"Or maybe." Evan stood up from his chair and offered his hand to Eternity. "I’m just not knowledgeable about romantic things."

Eternity smiled as she stood up, taking Evan’s hand. "That might be it."

"Maybe you can remedy that?" Evan said, giving her a seductive smirk.

Eternity frowned.

"Is that supposed to be your attempt at flirting?"

"What—" he spluttered. "...Yes." He admitted in defeat.

She laughed and leaned forward, standing on her tiptoes to kiss Evan on the cheek.

"At least you tried."
