Chapter 88: The Doll is Worth Every Bit of It

"Whoa!" Eternity gasped, and her emerald eyes widened in surprise as a strong gust of wind blew, sending a couple of leaves and petals flying.

After that, she started giggling.

"Are you okay?" Evan asked as he carried a picnic basket, following her trail. "Careful now."

She spun around, revealing that the wind had ruffled her hair and that a few loose strands had landed on her face. She immediately reached up and brushed them aside, her fingers lightly caressing the red locks.

"It’s just the wind, Evan," Eternity pointed out. "It just caught me by surprise, that’s all."

Evan nodded uneasily, his eyes darting from side to side as he noticed that people were staring at Eternity with awestruck expressions, as if she were a goddess and they were lucky enough to see her beauty in broad daylight.

Minus the goddess part, Evan believed this to be true.

After their breakfast, the two immediately headed to a park in the city.

Since it was a Saturday, the park had numerous visitors today, Evan and Eternity included.

The park was surrounded by a rainbow of different flowers and lush greenery. The air was fresh and filled with the sounds of birds chirping and the gentle rustle of leaves in the breeze.

It was generally a relaxing place if it were not for the curious eyes that were eyeing Eternity. It was making Evan sick to his stomach to see all these men (and occasionally some women) ogling at Eternity, but what can he do? 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

Eternity had that effect on people.

"Let’s explore the park!" Eternity declared before dashing deeper into the place, causing Evan to run after her like they were children playing tag.

With her infectious sense of amazement, Eternity would pause every so often to appreciate a particularly beautiful flower or watch a bird perch from branch to branch. Pointing at various parts of the park to Evan, her delight was evident in her wide, sparkling eyes.

Evan couldn’t help but smile as he watched Eternity’s enthusiasm.

"Eternity?" He called out, and Eternity finally slowed down, spinning around to meet his gaze.

"Yes, Evan?" Eternity smiled brightly at him, as if this were the happiest day of her life.

Instead of saying anything, Evan reached out to take her hand in his and took a couple of skips, so now that they were walking side by side, their footsteps were synchronized as they explored the park together.

"This flower is so pretty, Evan!" Eternity exclaimed as they stopped walking in front of a particular bush, bending down to get a closer look. "Look how beautiful its color is!"

Evan kneeled next to Eternity and followed her gaze to the bush, where she was pointing at a flower with bright magenta petals dotted with white.

"Do you know what they are?" Evan asked with genuine curiosity. Even though he wasn’t much of a plan enthusiast, Eternity’s interest in the flower was infectious.

"Let’s check!" Eternity folded her sleeves as if she were going to do some hard physical work when all she was planning to do was touch the flower to analyze it, making Evan laugh at her antics.

As soon as she did so, her moss-green eyes turned glassy for a second before she started speaking in a monotonous tone.

"It’s a rhododendron," Eternity explained. "Also known as azalea. They’re quite common in this country, and they come in all sorts of colors, but I think this one is particularly lovely."

When she was finished, her cheeks flushed with delight as she smiled up at Evan.

"It’s amazing," she said in awe. "I’ve never seen anything like it before."

"We’ll probably see more amazing plants along the way," Evan said, rising to his feet and offering Eternity a hand to help her up. "Shall we continue our walk?"

She nodded gleefully and took his hand.

They continued their walk through the park and eventually found a quiet area under the shelter of an oak tree.

Evan spread out a blanket from the picnic basket, and they settled down together, with Evan resting his head on Eternity’s lap.

"This is perfect," Eternity said as she continued to admire her surroundings. "It’s so peaceful here."

Evan nodded in agreement, munching on his egg sandwich. "I’m glad you’re enjoying it, Eternity."

"You bet I am!" Eternity chuckled. "I’ve only been activated for more than a month, yet I think this would be my happiest and fondest memory ever!"

"Really?" Evan raised an eyebrow. "You enjoyed walking in this park more than you did in the amusement park."

She nodded eagerly.

"Of course!" She exclaimed. "I prefer the relaxing scenery of a park to the thrill and stomach-churn of a rollercoaster ride any day. Plus, I get to spend today with you alone. I think that’s the main reason why I enjoy it more."

Evan felt a slight curve forming at the corners of his lips.

"You know, Eternity," Evan began, giving the sandwich one big bite before swallowing it whole. "I never imagined I’d enjoy walking in a park before. In fact, I was never a fan of nature exploration."

"Is it because of the mosquitos?" Eternity teased.

"Kind of," Evan chuckled. "But aside from that, I’d always found them boring and a waste of time."

Evan sat up on the blanket so that they could look each other in the eye, so she could see the tenderness in his expression.

"But for some reason, with you, it just feels...right."

Eternity’s eyes softened as she looked at him.

"I’ve never experienced walking in the park before, so I don’t really have a mode of comparison to say if I didn’t enjoy it before like you did." She said it with a shy smile on her lips. "All I know is that I want to spend the next few visits in the park with you by my side."

"Really?" Evan gasped. His icy-blue eyes, which were often so cold, seemed to have melted.

"Really." She nodded.

Once Evan was done with his meal and Eternity finished folding the picnic blanket, Evan suspiciously walked toward the basket that was beside the root of the oak tree and slipped his hand inside it.

Eternity raised an eyebrow, watching Evan’s back as he shuffled to get something inside the basket

"Evan?" She called out. "What are you doing?"

Evan finally turned around to face her, pulling out a small box and presenting it to Eternity with a nervous look.

"I got you something," he said, his cheeks flushing slightly as he handed her the box.

Eternity’s eyes widened in surprise as she opened the box to reveal a delicate silver necklace adorned with a small pendant in the shape of a heart. She looked up at Evan, her eyes shining with gratitude and affection.

"It’s beautiful," she said, her voice filled with emotion. "Thank you, Evan."

Evan’s nervousness melted away as he saw the genuine delight in Eternity’s eyes.

"I’m glad you like it," he replied, his smile widening as he watched her carefully lift the necklace out of the box.

Eternity held the necklace up to the sunlight filtering through the leaves of the oak tree, admiring the way it caught the light and sparkled.

"Can you help me put it on?" She asked, handing the necklace to him.

He obliged and carefully fastened the delicate clasp around her neck. Evan stepped back from her, admiring the necklace against her neck.

"It looks perfect on you." Evan said breathlessly, literally having his breath taken away by her beauty.

Eternity beamed as she turned around to face him, touching the pendant gently with her fingertips.

"Thank you for such a beautiful gift."

He reached out to gently tuck a loose strand of hair behind her ear, leaning in to kiss her on the lips. As they both pulled away from each other, Evan whispered.

"You’re worth every bit of it."
