Chapter 89: Doll’s Tour Around the Globe, But Without the Travel Expenses

The weekends went by as quickly as they came, and Monday arrived like a violent storm in the middle of an outdoor party.

Monday’s tutoring schedule could be more interesting, but it wasn’t interesting enough.

Eternity soon found out that mathematics wasn’t her forte. Although solving for the values of Xs and Ys was tolerable, things went awry for her the moment triangles and other shapes entered the picture.

’Do regular people really use all these formulas in their everyday life?’ Eternity thought as she solved a particular mathematical problem. ’Because in my one month and a few weeks of living, I only had use for basic arithmetic.’

Monday’s also consisted of foreign languages and social studies.

Thank goodness, Miss Poliglota was multilingual, so she could teach Eternity more than one language. If she hadn’t, she would’ve been jobless in a day since Eternity only needed to touch her French textbooks to absorb their content, and now she was more or less fluent in conversational French!

But, of course, Eternity didn’t just want to learn basic ’bonjour’ (Good day) and ’comment allez-vous?’ (How are you?). Eternity wanted to know phrases and terms like ’je ne sais quoi’ (which literally means ’I don’t know’ but refers to a pleasing quality that cannot be exactly named or described) or ’la douleur exquise’ (which literally means ’exquisite pain’ but entails a pain you feel for wanting someone you can’t have).

Miss Poliglota might be teaching her French for about two or three more sessions, then they’ll have to proceed to another language.

Her favorite part of today’s lesson was social studies.

Although her schedule called it such, their subject basically focused on geography and culture. Eternity already learned much of her knowledge of geography from atlases, it was nice to have directed learning where somebody, specifically her tutor, gave her an organized guide and flow of what to study.

But what made their social studies subject interesting was Miss Sokusai’s tutoring method.

Instead of just pointing out the geographic location of a country and giving some statistics about it, which Eternity couldn’t probably process the gravity of its significance, Miss Sokusai also provided pictures and interesting information about that location’s culture.

Miss Sokusai was giving her a ’tour’ around the globe, but without the travel expenses.

Because of her tutor, Eternit didn’t merely memorize the map but became knowledgeable about the country’s culture and its similarities to its surrounding countries, which in turn made it easier to pinpoint the location of a specific nation on the map.

"Thank you, Miss Sokusai," Eternity bowed in gratitude to her tutor, who was about to take her leave.

Miss Sokusai, a middle-aged Asian lady, bowed back in return before heading outside of the apartment.

Eternity sighed, feeling relieved that her classes for today were finally over.

’I love learning new things but getting information overload is quite draining!’ She thought as she headed toward the living room.

Once she arrived, the first thing Eternity did was glance at the wall clock.

"14:38," the clock indicated.

"I already miss Evan," she muttered under her breath, staring at the clock in silence.

The sound of the door being unlocked and Evan’s voice announcing, ’I’m home!’ pulled Eternity out of her ’sleep mode’ on the sofa.

With a jolt, she realized she must have dozed off and quickly sat up, running her fingers through her tousled hair and smoothing out the wrinkles on her white dress. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

"Eternity?" Evan’s voice called out from the hallway, his tone oozing with curiosity as he searched for her in the apartment. "Where are you?"

"Wait a minute!" Eternity called back, her voice slightly groggy from sleep, as she hurried towards the door to greet him.

As she approached, Evan turned towards her, his face lighting up at the sight of her.

"Eternity! There you are," Evan said. "Did you have a good day?"

Eternity nodded, still trying to shake off the traces of sleepiness in her system.

"Yes, I learned a lot from my tutors today. How about you?" She asked, returning the question.

"Busy as usual," Evan replied, kicking off his shoes and stepping into the apartment. "But I’m glad to be home now."

They both headed to the living room, where Evan saw the scattered textbooks and notes on the coffee table.

"It looks like you’ve been studying hard," he remarked, his tone playful yet observant.

Eternity couldn’t help but feel guilt at his comment, knowing she had actually been caught napping instead of studying diligently.

"What’s with your tone?" Eternity pouted. "I’ve been studying hard since Friday!"

Evan chuckled before his expression morphed to concern as he noticed something. She blinked, wondering what was wrong when Evan stepped closer, and reached out to gently run his thumb over a red mark on Eternity’s cheek.

"Your face has sleep marks," Evan observed, his brow furrowing with worry. "You weren’t studying as hard as I thought."

Feeling embarrassed, Eternity instinctively covered her face with her hands, trying to hide the evidence of her nap.

"You caught me," she whispered sheepishly. "I must have dozed off after Miss Sokusai’s lesson. I didn’t mean to lie..."

But instead of getting angry, Evan’s expression softened, and he reached out to gently pat her head before pressing a tender kiss to her forehead.

"I know you just wanted to impress me," he said, the corners of his eyes wrinkling with understanding. "But you don’t need to do that. You know that, right?"

Eternity averted her gaze from his. Evan frowned and cupped her face, forcing her to look at him.

"You’re doing great, Eternity," he said softly, his eyes full of warmth and affection. "I’m proud of you."

Eternity’s emerald eyes widened as she heard his comforting words. She felt her cheeks turn flushed, and a warm sensation started to spread all over her body.

"Thanks, Evan." Eternity smiled.

"You don’t have to thank me," he said with a low, soothing voice. "I mean it, Eternity. You’re doing amazing."
