Chapter 83: Chapter 83: My Girlfriend

Lana Cheney said with a smile, "I was in a total panic today. It’s all thanks to this young lady; otherwise, the consequences would have been unthinkable. It seems the Young Master knows her."

"Yes!" Master Nathan also said with a smile. "I always thought that boy was so wooden and had such a bad temper. I was sure there was no way he’d ever find a wife on his own, but now it looks like there’s hope for him yet!"

After taking Vera Xavier to a nearby restaurant for a meal, Nathaniel Nathan walked her home. On the way, he stopped at the pharmacy to pay for the medicine.

The pharmacy owner recognized him and had heard about what happened to Master Nathan. Seeing Nathaniel and Vera return together, he instantly understood the situation. He said, a bit embarrassed, "I really had no idea she was getting medicine to save Master Nathan. I wasn’t very polite this afternoon, so please don’t take offense!"

Vera Xavier smiled and said, "Of course you have to pay for medicine. I was just in such a rush today. I’m the one who should be sorry."

The pharmacy owner refused to take the money under any circumstances. "Master Nathan did my whole family a great service. It’s already my fault for not realizing he was sick sooner. If I took his money on top of that, what kind of person would I be?"

Nathaniel Nathan said coolly, "Are you sure you want to steal the credit from my girlfriend?"

Vera Xavier glanced at him, her face flushing involuntarily. ’Does he really have to go around telling everyone that I’m his girlfriend?’

The pharmacy owner was stunned for a moment. But when he saw the embarrassed Vera beside Nathaniel Nathan, he immediately understood. He took the money and then proceeded to praise Vera to the skies. "Nathaniel, you have excellent taste! When I saw your girlfriend this afternoon, I knew she was extraordinary—so decisive, quick-witted, and smart!"

He went on with a long string of compliments about Vera, so much so that she started to feel embarrassed. The truth was, when she had come to buy medicine without paying that afternoon, the owner had looked like he wanted to tear her to shreds.

After they left the pharmacy, she said to Nathaniel Nathan, "That pharmacy owner is certainly a smooth talker."

"He’s alright. His family ran into some trouble a while back, and my grandfather helped them out. He might be a bit materialistic, but he knows how to be grateful," Nathaniel Nathan explained coolly.

In her past life, Vera had known about his family’s powerful background and that Master Nathan was no ordinary man. For Nathaniel to brush it off so lightly meant it must have been a monumental event for the pharmacy owner back then.

She said softly, "A house that gathers virtue will be blessed with abundance."

"I agree with that," Nathaniel Nathan said, looking at her. "Otherwise, you wouldn’t have shown up just in time to save my grandfather today."

"That was just a coincidence," Vera Xavier said with a smile.

Nathaniel Nathan glanced at her without another word and continued leading her home.

After they left, the wife of the neighboring grocery store owner came over and asked the pharmacy owner, "Who was that young lady?"

"The Nathan family’s granddaughter-in-law to be," the pharmacy owner replied.

The grocery store owner’s wife was completely shocked. "Young Master Nathan has a girlfriend? Oh my, and here I was, hoping to introduce my granddaughter to him!"

The pharmacy owner gave her a look of disdain. "You can just forget about that. How could your granddaughter possibly be a match for Young Master Nathan? You didn’t see his girlfriend. Not only is she as beautiful as a flower, but she’s also a courageous and decisive young woman. If she hadn’t arrived in time today, Master Nathan probably wouldn’t have made it!"

The grocery store owner sighed in dismay. By comparison, she felt her own granddaughter fell short by a long shot.
