Chapter 123: You are Jie Ming

"Tiantian~ You must not be as famous as I had thought," Jie Fu Lian teased, somehow feeling a little elated, "Actually, the state of your house was already not one that looked welcoming towards guests."

"I do not stay here much and there is no one else left to clean up so it was a bit messy," Hua Tianshu defended himself.

Jie Fu Lian couldn’t help but chuckle as he heard this, "If there was no one left to clean up, you could’ve just asked someone to come and help. I’m sure Duan Luoyang would have happily volunteered."

"I do not like people coming over."

"Then am I not a person?" Jie Fu Lian asked with a small smirk, "Why are you fine with me but not anyone else?"

"You are Jie Ming," Hua Tianshu answered without missing a beat, "You are an exception."

"..." Jie Fu Lian’s poor heart once again skipped a few beats.

"Do you want to rest here for a little longer or should we go and meet Sect Master Quan?"

"Didn’t you say you needed to talk to him first?"

"I needed to but I don’t think that would be necessary any longer."

"Huh? Why?"

"I’m sure he already knows that you’re here," Hua Tianshu replied as he side-glanced outside the window and continued, "There are some meddlesome people who would have already informed him."

"Then let’s go meet him," Jie Fu Lian spoke with a sigh.

"You don’t have to meet him if you don’t want to," Hua Tianshu reassured.

Jie Fu Lian smiled, "It’s just a bit embarrassing but I still look forward to seeing his reaction."

"If he says anything offensive, just tell him that his baldness is making him go senile."

Jie Fu Lian chuckled as he heard this, "If I say that, I’m afraid I would not be able to leave the HuiXue sect with my soul intact."

"Don’t worry, I’m here to support you," Hua Tianshu replied, "That old man can’t go against me."

"He dots on you a lot. You should show some respect and not always go around trying to make him angry."

"It’s not my fault. He has issues with controlling his anger."

"Tiantian, you are actually very lucky," Jie Fu Lian commented, "Old man Quan loves you like a real father. There were times when even I have wished to have been born as his son."

"He’s not that great of a father," Hua Tianshu sighed as he spoke, "He’s just better than yours because your father was a real piece of sh*t."

Jie Fu Lian laughed as he heard this and only remembered to defend his father after a minute, "He wasn’t that bad. He was just a little strict and held high expectations from me."

Hua Tianshu raised an eyebrow as he heard this and asked, "Is that why he let you die?"

"..."

"Even after your death, I never saw him cry or show any sort of regret. That piece of sh*t doesn’t deserve to be called a father."

Jie Fu Lian wanted to say something as a defense but even when he opened his mouth to speak, no words came out. At the end of the day, he could not say anything because he knew deep inside that Hua Tianshu wasn’t entirely wrong.

His father wasn’t exactly the father one would wish for. In fact, he was the opposite.

Jie Fu Lian let out a dry chuckle as he commented, "Tiantian is quite foul-mouthed. I never knew."

"I have always been like this. You just haven’t noticed it."

"That’s not true," Jie Fu Lian spoke with a frown, "You never said much in front of me and I have never heard you curse before this. If you had, I would have certainly noticed. Tiantian, I remember everything about you. Your every action, your every word, and even your little habits. I know all of them."

Hua Tianshu’s eyes slightly widened and he felt a bit surprised as he heard this.

"I don’t think you know this, but before I met you, I used to be someone who looked up to you and wanted to surpass you. I hate to admit it but I was pretty foolish and wanted to be more like you," Jie Fu Lian sighed as he finally confessed, "Later on, when I got to meet you, I was very excited and waited on the stage for you to challenge me. In fact, the main reason why I was standing on the stage and challenging everyone was because I hoped that you would take notice and reach out to me first. However, you never did and in the end, I decided to challenge you instead, but you turned me down immediately."

Jie Fu Lian felt embarrassed to admit everything but he felt like he wanted to get this all off of his chest. He was afraid that if he didn’t speak, Hua Tianshu would never know and that gave him the courage and will to speak.

Jie Fu Lian expected to see Hua Tianshu laughing at how ridiculous Jie Fu Lian was, but surprisingly, he didn’t laugh instead, he attentively listened.

"I really hated you," Jie Fu Lian sighed out as he admitted, "But I think it’s a bit wrong to use the word ’hate’. The feelings I felt at that time would be more accurately explained with the words disappointment, sadness, and a little hurt. I just didn’t want to seem pathetic so I decided to turn that sadness into hatred."

Jie Fu Lian forced himself to put on a smile as he continued, "I told myself that you were not a good man. That you didn’t deserve to be idolized. I decided to believe that you were a heartless bastard who was better off being my enemy."

"I’m sorry," Hua Tianshu suddenly apologized, catching Jie Fu Lian off-guard.

"Huh...?"

"It seems like I did something bad to you so I’ll apologize," Hua Tianshu bowed his head as he spoke. His words oozing with sincerity, he continued, "I always thought I treated you well, but it seems like I had offended you without knowing."

Jie Fu Lian gulped as he heard this and questioned, "You say you treated me well. Then you considered me neither an enemy nor a rival?"

Hua Tianshu nodded his head, confirming it.

"Then why did you insult me on the very first day we met?"

"Huh?"

"That day, when I challenged you... Do you not remember what you said? You called me a show off without a backing bone," Jie Fu Lian looked down at the ground as he asked, feeling a little nervous.

Hua Tianshu frowned as he thought back to it and wondered how his words had been misunderstood as an insult.

"I could see that you were already too tired to keep on fighting. If you had challenged me in that state, you would have lost and it wouldn’t have been a fair fight. I wanted you to take some rest first. Later on, I went to propose a match but you had already left the HuiXue sect."

"..." Jie Fu Lian snapped his head up and looked at the man in disbelief as he heard this.

Of course, Hua Tianshu also knew that his words weren’t as polite as he would have liked them to be, but he had been too flustered by Jie Fu Lian’s sudden action back then but that was clearly not something he could just confess.

"There is no glory in defeating a show-off with no supporting bone... Those were your words, Hua Tianshu," Jie Fu Lian reminded in a daze, "You’re telling me these words were said out of consideration for my health and a fair fight...?!"

Hua Tianshu nodded his head.

"You were showing off that you had a lot of energy left and could beat me, but in reality, you had already depleted your spiritual energy and hence, had no supporting bone behind that bluff. Even if I beat you in that state, It wouldn’t be a great achievement. Hence, there would be no glory in defeating a show-off with no supporting bone."

"..." Jie Fu Lian didn’t know if he wanted to punch this man or bury himself out of embarrassment. He was clearly not in the wrong. It was all Hua Tianshu’s fault for not making his intentions clear and yet, it was now Jie Fu Lian who felt embarrassed for having misunderstood the man.

"T-then what about the second time?" Jie Fu Lian curiously questioned, "I was sure our relationship had improved after everything that had happened inside the illusion dream. But then you pushed me away and told me to stay out of your sight!"

"Huh?" Hua Tianshu tilted his head in confusion, looking a bit perplexed as he asked, "When did I say that?"

"Since you don’t have anything important to say, I’ll be taking my leave," Jie Fu Lian narrated the exact words spoken by Hua Tianshu that day as he reminded the man what he had said, "You should also go back and if possible, enter seclusion for the next few years."

"Tiantian, those were your exact words," Jie Fu Lian accusingly added, "Are you going to tell me that I’m still misunderstanding?"
