Chapter 133: The real reason

Jin Shifeng laughed as she heard this and shook her head at the ridiculous thought before she spoke, "It is nothing like that. I am not being threatened by anyone. I just took a decision and got myself into a contract that I now cannot get out of."

"A contract with the master of curses?"

Jin Shifeng once again chuckled and shook her head as she spoke, "Shen Fang, you are going after the wrong person. If you want to know who killed Jie Fu Lian, I can assure you that it wasn’t the master of curses. If you are looking for the killer’s accomplice then the master of curses is your man."

"Are you saying there is someone else who is more dangerous than the master of curses?"

Jin Shifeng laughed as she heard this but said nothing.

Jie Fu Lian glared at the woman as he asked, "Who is it? Who is the real culprit behind Jie Fu Lian’s death and the Yan sect’s destruction?"

"Who do you think it is?" Jin Shifeng asked with a small smirk.

"If I knew, would I be asking you?"

"Shen Fang, I feel pity for you. For the last eight years, you’ve been desperately searching for the one who killed your nephew, and yet, even when you are this close to finding that person, you cannot even recognize him. Actually, even if you recognize him, I do not think you’ll be able to avenge your nephew."

"Then let me change my question," Jie Fu Lian sighed as he spoke, "Instead of telling me his name, tell me why he killed my nephew. What did Jie Fu Lian do to offend him so much?"

Jin Shifeng pursed her lips into a thin line as she heard this question and took a deep breath in before she spoke, "Jie Fu Lian did nothing wrong."

Jie Fu Lian raised an eyebrow as he heard this.

"In fact, he was completely innocent. Just as you’ve said, he really did live an honest life trying to help people. His only fault in life was being born a half-demon and that too, was not something that we can hold him accountable for since he had his demon blood completely sealed away thanks to you. Just like you, he is also a pitiful person. In fact, he is much more pitiful than you since he himself didn’t know the real reason behind his death."

Jie Fu Lian clenched his fist as he heard this and questioned, "Then why was he killed?"

"Because he was Jie Fu Lian," Jin Shifeng spoke, not bothering to explain anything, "He was born as Jie Fu Lian, and merely existing was his only fault."

Jie Fu Lian was a bit stunned to hear this response. Of all the reasons he had imagined he would be hearing, this was certainly not one of them.

Now that he finally knew what he did wrong, he didn’t know if he wanted to laugh or cry.

"If he was still alive to hear this answer, I’m sure he would feel angry and his anger is justified. After all, he was wrongfully killed merely because he existed."

"He was killed because he was born a half-demon or because he was related to me?" Jie Fu Lian questioned with a frown.

"Neither," Jin Shifeng sighed as she revealed, "I’m sure the real culprit didn’t even know the relationship between Jie Fu Lian and you. If he knew, he wouldn’t have had to cook up such an elaborate plan. He could’ve just revealed your relationship to the world and just like how people ostracized and killed Xue Lan, he would have also been killed with a much easier method."

"I don’t understand."

"And I can assure you that you won’t," Jin Shifeng replied without missing a beat, "It’s not something that you can understand unless you know the whole story and I’m afraid I won’t be the one to tell you the whole story."

This one sentence confused Jie Fu Lian even more and he was left with more questions than what he started out with.

"I’m sure you are curious about a lot of things but I would not be revealing anything further," Jin Shifeng spoke as she straightened her back, "Since you want to use me as bait, I’ll let you do as you wish. However, do not say that I did not warn you. The master of curses is not going to come nor is Jin Long going to save me. We are going to be waiting here for a long time and in the end, you’ll realize that you were just wasting your time by keeping me here."

"Don’t worry, I have a lot of time to waste," Jie Fu Lian scoffed, not really believing her words.

Even if Jin Long didn’t love her, he was still responsible for her and if he abandoned his wife like this, there would most certainly be consequences and Jie Fu Lian was sure that Jin Long would not want to risk that. For Jin Long, his face was the most valuable and he was more than ready to do anything that would save his face.

Jie Fu Lian stubbornly sat there and Jin Shifeng also closed her eyes as she started calmly meditating. Due to the deity binding ropes, she could not feel her inner spiritual core nor could she feel her spiritual energy passing through her meridians but closing her eyes and meditating without spiritual Qi was also just as calming and helpful to both the body and mind.

An hour passed and Jin Long didn’t show up. Two hours passed and Jin Long still did not show up. When five hours passed, Jie Fu Lian went out and asked Hua Tianshu what happened.

Hua Tianshu informed him that Sect Master Quan had sent him a message saying that Jin Long was still in the HuiXue sect, leisurely drinking tea. He had already got the news that his wife had been kidnapped but he did not even flinch and just ignored it as if it were not a serious incident.

When Jie Fu Lian heard this, he had a little doubt in his heart: Was Jin Shifeng really telling the truth...?

However, Jie Fu Lian did not want to admit that Jin Shifeng was right so he decided to wait some more. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

An entire day passed and Jie Fu Lian once again went to Hua Tianshu, asking him to report Jin Long’s status. This time, Hua Tianshu told him that Jin Long had directly sent a letter as a response to the demon king.

Jie Fu Lian curiously opened the letter only to feel even more speechless.

’Dear demon king, I know we have not been on the best terms, but personally speaking, I have done nothing wrong to you, and before this, you have also not offended us. I do not know what you wish to gain from kidnapping my wife but I know that my wife is much stronger than me so it makes no sense for me to come and save her. If I do come, I’m sure you’ll keep me captive as well and I do not wish to gamble with my life.

As for the master of curses, you are right. My father did have a connection with that man but I’m afraid that connection ended a long time ago. I do not even know who the master of curses is so how can I bring him to you?

Keeping all this in mind, I hope you sympathize with me a little and return my wife. If you do so, we can end this matter peacefully, but if you refuse to settle it like this... I’ll be forced to take a serious decision.’

Jie Fu Lian didn’t know if he wanted to laugh, cry or tear the letter apart and send it back to Jin Long in anger.

On impulse, Jie Fu Lian also sent a letter back to Jin Long, challenging the man and mocking what he called a ’serious decision’.

Another day passed and Jie Fu Lian got one more response from Jin Long. This time, the letter wasn’t long. In fact, it was the shortest letter Jie Fu Lian had ever received.

’Prepare your tropes. I tried to settle it peacefully but you did not want to cooperate. Now, I shall also drop all politeness.’

The letter was short, but the message contained within was clear.

Jin Long had already declared war against the demon realm and was planning on fighting instead of giving in to the demon king’s wishes and handing over the master of curses.

Till the end, Jin Long claimed not to have any relationship with the master of curses.

When Jie Fu Lian received the threatening letter, he only laughed out loud and did nothing.

Two more days later, Jin Long attacked the demon realm but went back to the Jin Sect with a defeated face. Not only had they failed to win against the second line of defense but the demon king wasn’t even in the demon realm for them to fight.

On the fifth day, Jie Fu Lian once again received a letter from Jin Long.

’You have outsmarted me but I refuse to give up this easily. I am going to find you and when I do, I’ll make sure that you breathe your last breath.’

This time, Jie Fu Lian wasn’t the only one laughing at this letter, Hua Tianshu was also laughing along with him.
