Chapter 143: I missed you.

Jie Fu Lian did not manage to get too far. Actually, he wasn’t even trying to run far away. As soon as he left the Yan Sect, Jie Fu Lian learned the harsh reality that he had nowhere else to go.

This situation was completely foreign to him and he was still too young to properly react to it with a calm mind. His heart was still racing with fear and even at this moment, he couldn’t help but wonder if he would ever be able to go back to the Yan Sect.

Had he been thrown away for good...?

Eventually, Jie Fu Lian reached a small town that was near the Yan Sect. Although it was close, he had never been here before, and hence, nobody recognized his face but they surely recognized his clothes.

With the money that Jie Yang Zan had given him, Jie Fu Lian booked a room at an inn for a whole week and decided to rest up a little.

As he dozed off to sleep, tears once again started streaming down his eyes. He cried his heart out and wished to be comforted by someone but what hurt the most was the fact that there was no one there to comfort him.

One of the windows inside his room was left open and suddenly, a white cat jumped in.

Jie Fu Lian immediately stopped crying as he saw the fluffy white cat. He sat up straight and carefully looked at the cat, finding it oddly familiar.

The cat jumped up on his lap and licked away the tears from his face.

"It’s you...!" Jie Fu Lian exclaimed, feeling quite shocked as he managed to recognize the cat.

It was the same cat that he had raised inside the illusion dream!

As if wanting to confirm it, the cat gave a small ’Meow’.

"What are you doing here?" Jie Fu Lian questioned as he picked up the cat.

It seemed as if the cat’s mere presence had made him forget about everything that worried him.

The cat naturally did not give him a reply and looked at him with expectant eyes, as if proudly asking for him to scratch its head.

"I thought I’ll never get to see you again," Jie Fu Lian spoke as he stroked its fluffy white head.

The cat gave another small ’Meow’ as a response.

As Jie Fu Lian looked at the cat, he couldn’t help but feel extremely thankful to the creature. It couldn’t talk nor could it understand what he was saying, but the cat being with him at this moment surely improved his mood a lot and made him feel a little comforted.

"I missed you," Jie Fu Lian hugged the cat as he softly spoke.

The cat did not resist and acted as if it was hugging him back.

"You know, I almost thought you were the demon king," Jie Fu Lian chuckled as he spoke, "You appeared and disappeared so mysteriously."

The cat looked at him with its eyes wide open.

"Today... I was abandoned by my father," Jie Fu Lian sighed and the smile on his face instantly died down as he continued, "I never thought he would throw me away like this. I do not even know what I did wrong. There are people saying I colluded with demons but I have always lived an honest life by helping others and listening to my father. I’ve killed more demons than I could count, how could I ever collude with them when I hate them so much?"

The cat silently listened to his sufferings and patted his hand, as if trying to comfort him.

Jie Fu Lian put on a small smile as he looked at the cat and continued, "I’m kinda afraid..."

"I’m afraid of never being able to go back," Jie Fu Lian sighed as he added, "The Yan Sect is my home. It is the only place where I can return to, but I have already been thrown away so can I still call it my home? Can I still return? Would I be allowed to... Return?"

Jie Fu Lian suddenly felt as if he were a little pathetic. Instead of talking to somebody who could understand his situation and advice him on what to do next, he was talking to a cat who could not even understand what he was saying.

"Now that I think about it... It would have been good if you were the demon king."

"..."

"Shen Fang has lived for more than a thousand years. The more a person ages, the wiser they become. If that is true then Shen Fang must be the wisest man alive. If you were him, I could tell you all my problems and you would tell me what to do next."

The cat almost coughed out a furball.

"I’m pathetic, aren’t I? Instead of figuring out what to do next with my life, I am hoping for a mere cat to become the demon king."

Jie Fu Lian looked into the cat’s eyes and said nothing. It seemed as if he was lost in thoughts.

"Meow?"

Suddenly, Jie Fu Lian’s eyes widened and he jumped up on his legs as he exclaimed, "I got it!"

"Meow...?"

"I can return!" Jie Fu Lian beamed as he picked the cat up as if it had done something great, "The demon king is the answer!"

The cat looked at him as if the man had lost all sanity.

"I can just kill the demon king and people would no longer suspect me!"

"..."

"If I kill him, I’ll become a hero. I’ll be adored and respected by all. Nobody would ever compare me to Hua Tianshu again! My name will go down in history as the greatest immortal to have ever lived!"

Even at a moment like this, he surely did not forget about his rivalry with Hua Tianshu. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

The cat jumped out of his arms and flung its tail with arrogance as it climbed up onto the window sill and jumped out.

"..." Jie Fu Lian blinked in disbelief as he looked at the window.

He had been abandoned by the cat who could no longer tolerate his insanity...

Jie Fu Lian almost went after the cat but after just two steps, he suddenly had to stop when he heard a knocking sound coming from the door.

"Who is it?" Jie Fu Lian asked with a frown on his face.

"I am a rogue cultivator. I was looking for a place to stay but the owner told me that all the rooms have already been booked. This is the only room with enough space to accommodate two people and I heard that the one staying here is also a Daoist like me so I thought I’d come to ask you for a favor. Would you mind if I stay with you for the day?"

"A rogue cultivator...?" Jie Fu Lian muttered as he thought about it. He found it a little hard to believe that every other room in this little inn had been booked since this place hardly saw any visitors, however, although it seemed like a trap, Jie Fu Lian still went to open the door and greeted the man standing outside.

"Just a night?" He asked and the man enthusiastically nodded his head.

He was quite a handsome youth and looked to be the same age as Jie Fu Lian. His cultivation level was hidden by an artifact but Jie Fu Lian didn’t pay too much attention to it.

If it were any other day, under different circumstances, Jie Fu Lian would have surely turned the man away and sent him back, but Jie Fu Lian had just been abandoned by his father and knew exactly what it felt like to not have a place to stay.

When he looked at the youth, he felt a connection and although it was purely based on intuition, Jie Fu Lian decided to let the man stay.

"If it’s just for a night, you are free to stay. I hope you don’t snore."

"Don’t worry, I won’t do anything that would disturb you." The man grinned as he enthusiastically replied.

The little white fluffy cat had already left but when the man entered the room, he slightly frowned as he commented, "It seems like you have a cat."

Jie Fu Lian raised an eyebrow as he curiously asked, "How did you know?"

"The thing did not bother cleaning up after itself," The man sighed as he spoke, blaming the cat, "There is fur everywhere. You can hardly speak without choking on it."

Jie Fu Lian frowned as he heard this and looked around with a little bit of confusion as he wondered if his eyes had gone bad. Why was it that he could not even find a single hair...?

"Did it already leave?"

Jie Fu Lian gave a nod as he spoke, "It left just a few minutes ago."

"Good," The man nodded his head in satisfaction as he closed the window and spoke, "Let’s keep the windows closed. This way, it can’t return."

"..." Jie Fu Lian had the feeling that he had invited an odd man inside his house.
