"Have I met you before this?" Jie Fu Lian couldn’t help but question.

The man immediately shook his head as he insisted, "This is definitely the first time we have met!"

"..." That was a bit of an extreme reaction but Jie Fu Lian laughed it off as odd and didn’t think too much about it.

"Actually, I do not believe you," Wei Hua quickly changed the topic as he spoke, "I think you must also have people who care about you and are always willing to stand by your side, but you are just too blind to see it."

"It would be nice if that were the case."

Wei Hua, "Trust me. I am sure there is someone who would love to sit here and listen to you."

"Are you indirectly saying you aren’t enjoying my company?"

Jie Fu Lian’s cheeks blushed red as he heard this and he looked away, afraid that if he made eye contact with the man, he would blurt out unnecessary things that he would later come to regret.

"So what did you come here for?" Jie Fu Lian coughed as he questioned, once again changing the topic.

"Didn’t I already tell you? Rogue cultivators like me can only survive by taking up small tasks in villages like this."

"But you said you were only going to stay for a day. Have you already finished the work you came here to do?"

"Well, it’s a bit complicated." Wei Hua chuckled as he leaned back and spoke, "I was actually planning to only stay for a day but it seems that I’ll have to extend my stay."

"Because of you."

"You don’t need to care about me," Jie Fu Lian smiled as he spoke, "I might be an abandoned pup but I can take care of myself."

"If you have no idea what to do next, why not run away with me?" Wei Hua leaned in closer as he enthusiastically questioned.

"I might not be powerful enough to beat the demon king but I’m sure that I can keep you safe," Wei Hua beamed.

Jie Fu Lian gulped as he heard this and wondered if the man was being serious or just saying this out of politeness.

"I have to warn you, the life of a rogue cultivator is not easy but it is surely fun. We can go wherever we want to and meet new people every day. We can help people wherever we go and nobody would ever bother to criticize us. It’s a simple life but one that would suit the two of us. So think about it. Do you want to run away with me?"

Jie Fu Lian chuckled as he heard this and took it as a light-hearted joke as he commented, "That sounds quite romantic. Unfortunately, I already have someone in mind with whom I want to run away."

He blurted out the latter sentence without thinking too much and only when he had said it did he realize there was something wrong with that.

With a small gasp, Jie Fu Lian covered his mouth and cursed himself for having such a loose tongue.

Wei Hua slightly frowned and his expression immediately darkened a little as he asked, "A person you want to run away with? Who is that?"

Jie Fu Lian gulped, feeling quite flustered as he looked away.

For a second there, he almost blurted out Hua Tianshu’s name.

That man was an enemy and yet, there were times when Jie Fu Lian thought it would be great to become friends who could run away and travel the world together.

"So you also have someone you like?" Wei Hua asked, his frown deepening.

Jie Fu Lian’s ears turned red and defensively exclaimed, "No! Definitely not!"

"I do not like him like that!" Jie Fu Lian insisted, "It’s just that... He is someone that I used to respect and admire."

"Someone you respect and admire? Who is he?"

"Jie Fu Lian pursed his lips together and shook his head as he spoke, "I won’t say."

Wei Hua looked at him with an unimpressed expression as he heard this response.

"His name isn’t that important," Jie Fu Lian shrugged as he spoke, "In any case, I can’t even call him a friend so a future where we can run away together sounds like complete nonsense."

"Then let me replace that person," Wei Hua muttered out on instinct.

"Eh...?"

"Let me replace that person and instead of him, you can run away with me. I’ll make sure that you won’t regret it."

Jie Fu Lian awkwardly laughed as he heard this and brushed it aside as a joke, "There you go again, speaking without thinking. Are you sure you can afford to run away with me? Would your lover not feel jealous?"

"He’s not my lover," Wei Hua smiled as he spoke, "He’s the one I love but he doesn’t love me back so how can he feel jealous?"

Jie Fu Lian’s smile immediately went down as he heard this and he looked at the man with a sense of pity as he asked, "How can you say that with a smile on your face? Is it not exhausting to keep loving someone like that?"

"Exhausting?" Wei Hua repeated as he took a minute to think about it before he shook his head and calmly spoke, "It’s not exhausting at all. Just getting to see him is quite enough for me. He doesn’t owe me anything. Just because I love him doesn’t mean he has to love me back."

"I’m slightly impressed by you," Jie Fu Lian chuckled as he spoke, "I stick by what I said, he really is a lucky person. To love someone without condition... I wish I also had someone who’d love me like that."

Wei Hua knowingly smiled as he heard this but said nothing as a response.

"Can I ask you a question?" Jie Fu Lian enthusiastically asked.

"Go ahead."

"Why do you like him so much?"

Wei Hua’s smile widened as he heard this question and he spoke, "There is no particular reason. I just love him for who he is. The more I look at him, the more I realize that it is quite impossible for me not to fall for him."

"He must be handsome."

Wei Hua nodded his head with a chuckle as he confirmed, "To me, he is the most handsome man I have ever seen in my life."

"Now you’re making me curious. I also want to know how handsome he looks. Is he better looking than me?"

Wei Hua carefully looked at Jie Fu Lian’s face and chuckled as he spoke, "You look a lot like him so I can’t really compare."

Jie Fu Lian playfully gasped as he heard this and dramatically replied, "No way! I have a one-of-a-kind face! How can another person be born with a face as blessed as this?"

Wei Hua laughed and nodded his head as he agreed.

Jie Fu Lian warmly smiled as he spoke, "Thank you."

"Hmm?"

"Thank you for keeping me company and making me laugh like this."

Wei Hua also smiled as he heard this, "I should be the one thankful. Thank you for listening to me and laughing together with me. I wasn’t really joking when I asked you to run away with me. If you want, we can really do that."

"I like the offer but I’ll still reject it. I do not want to become a burden to someone I hardly know," Jie Fu Lian let out a soft sigh as he spoke, "Unfortunately, I am not the type to run away when things get hard for me.
