Chapter 154: He dare put a curse on me?

"Jie Fu Lian, wake up." Hua Tianshu looked to be extremely worried as he tried to wake Jie Fu Lian up.

"He won’t die," Shen Chao sighed as he spoke, "He just needs a little rest."

"What happened?" Hua Tianshu asked, looking a little terrified.

"The curse that affected Daoist Hua was stronger. Since he absorbed it all, he must be in pain right now. For the time being, it’s best to let him rest."

Hua Tianshu’s eyes widened and he repeated, "Absorbed? Are you telling me that he absorbed... the curse?"

Shen Chao immediately nodded his head as he confirmed it.

Hua Tianshu gulped as he heard this and looked to be a little horrified.

"So you also did the same?" The man from the phoenix clan questioned as he looked at Shen Chao.

Shen Chao once again nodded his head as he spoke, "I know a way of transferring curses but the curse affecting Daoist Hua was too strong for me so I transferred it over to the demon king instead. Compared to that one, the curse put on these two is much milder and I can probably handle it."

Duan Luoyang sat up straight and tried his best to make sense of the situation. When he heard Shen Chao’s words, he couldn’t help but feel a little worried as he questioned, "Did you adsorb the curse?"

Shen Chao nodded his head as he confirmed, "It’s okay. I can handle it better than you since I am a demonic cultivator."

Although the man had told him that there was no need to worry, Duan Luoyang couldn’t help but feel a little unhappy.

Shen Chao sighed as he looked at the unconscious Ren Lei and spoke, "I can handle one curse but I’m not sure if I can handle two. I might pass out like the demon king."

"Don’t do it," Duan Luoyang looked to be worried and strictly spoke as he grabbed the man’s hand and stopped him.

"I’m not doing it for free," Shen Chao thinly smiled as he replied, "I’ll be taking money from all of you for my services so don’t treat me like a selfless hero."

"..."

Shen Chao took Ren Lei’s hand and continued to chant the same spell once again.

This time his hands were shaking even more and blood could be seen dripping down from the corners of his lips.

With his eyebrows creased together, Duan Luoyang looked at the man with a worried expression but said nothing.

A string of black ink could be seen dancing around on Ren Lei’s arm and like a snake, it slithered over towards Shen Chao’s arm where it united with the pre-existing string of black ink that had been transferred over from Duan Luoyang’s body. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

When the two strings of black ink merged together, the curse suddenly got a lot more powerful and the ink started to uncontrollably spread around.

By the time Shen Chao was done chanting and fully transferred the curse over to his own body, his entire arm had turned black and black veins seemed to be climbing up his neck as well.

As expected, the curse got stronger and when Shen Chao’s body could no longer endure it, just like Jie Fu Lian, he also passed out.

Duan Luoyang caught the man before his head hit the floor and frantically called out, "Shen Chao? Are you okay? Shen Chao?"

"Let him rest," The man from the phoenix clan spoke with a sigh.

"That damned bastard." As soon as Ren Lei gained consciousness, she cursed out loudly and startled everyone.

She pushed herself off of the ground and looked around once before she commented, "I hope someone managed to catch him."

Although her words were sudden, everyone immediately understood who she was referring to.

"Jin Long ran away," The man from the Pheonix sect spoke as he informed.

"I’m not talking about Jin Long," Ren Lei corrected, "I am talking about that master of curses."

"Huh...?"

"He dare put a curse on me?" Ren Lei stood up as she gritted her teeth and exclaimed, "I’ll make sure to cut off his two hands and poke out his eyes. Let’s see if he can still put curses on people when he’s blind and crippled."

"..."

"I like the idea," A woman chuckled as she spoke up.

Ren Lei turned to look at the strange woman covered in a cloak.

The woman smiled, took off the hood of her cloak, and revealed her identity as she spoke, "I’ve changed my mind. Let me join your side."

"How come you are here? Did that old man let you go?" Ren Lei immediately questioned, her frown deepening as she recognized the woman as Jin Shifeng who had been held captive by Elder Tai Ho.

"I told him that I’ll help you guys and he had no reason to keep me imprisoned so he just let me go," Jin Shifeng shrugged her shoulders as she spoke.

"I also played an important role," Elder Ren stepped up from behind the woman and spoke with a small smile, "But that doesn’t matter. We have more important things to deal with first."

"I thought you ran away," Ren Lei commented as she raised an eyebrow in suspicion.

Elder Ren thinly smiled as she heard this but gave no response.

"We should take them back first," Elder Ren spoke, pointing at Jie Fu Lian and Shen Chao, "We can regroup and come up with a new strategy once they gain consciousness."

Jin Shifeng nodded her head as she agreed with the woman.

Hua Tianshu, who prioritized Jie Fu Lian’s safety at all times, naturally shared the same thoughts and immediately picked up Jie Fu Lian as he got ready to leave the place.

"You’re right, we should let them rest," The man from the Phoenix clan sighed as he spoke, "But we cannot let Jin Long escape. While they rest, we will be looking for him."

Jin Shifeng nodded her head as she heard this and replied, "You may do as you please. However, I must warn you, it won’t be easy to find him."

The man politely smiled as he heard this and gave a nod, "Even if it is hard, the truth must be revealed and the perpetrator must be punished. Don’t worry, Madam Jin. We’ll find him even if it is hard."

Jin Shifeng knew that these people would not be able to find him but she didn’t bother voicing out her thoughts directly, instead, she smiled and said nothing. Since she had already warned them, she didn’t feel as if there was any need to discourage them any further.

The two groups split up and went their own ways.

The unconscious Jie Fu Lian and Shen Chao were taken to the HuiXue sect where they were treated with the help of pills and elixirs which did not seem to be of much help.

Although Shen Chao had said that they would wake up when they had recovered, Duan Luoyang and Hua Tianshu still couldn’t help but feel worried.

A few hours passed just like that and the two still did not show any signs of waking up. In fact, their condition only seemed to be worsening with time.

When Jin Shifeng looked at Hua Tianshu, she couldn’t help but feel pity for the man. In the end, she decided to comfort him a little and spoke, "He is in a lot of pain but I’m sure he’ll survive. He already died once and came back, did he not? This much is nothing for him."

Hua Tianshu frowned as he heard this, "That’s exactly why I do not wish to see him suffer like this..."

"Hmm?"

"He already experienced the pain that was never meant for him. He wrongfully died in the worst way possible and was summoned back to this world against his will. When I saw him again, I promised myself that I would never let him suffer again. I thought I would be able to protect him and let him live the peaceful life that he had always craved. To see him hurting like this because of me... I hate it."

Jin Shifeng pursed her lips as she heard this and although their situations were not the same, she still couldn’t help but sympathize with him on a personal level.

"When Yu Wei died, I promised myself one thing," Jin Shifeng sighed as she spoke, "As I stood in front of her grave, I promised myself that I’d avenge her. I thought if I did that, she would come back, but as time passed, I realized how naive I had been. It didn’t matter if I punished her murderer or not. In the end, she was already gone from this world and would never come back. As soon as that thought crossed my mind, I felt helpless and could not do anything. Unlike your case, there was no miracle for me. Even if I wanted to summon her back in another body, I could not do it."

Jin Shifeng sighed as she lowered her head in guilt and continued, "I cannot put myself in your shoes but if I could, I’m sure I would have also experienced the same feeling. If Yu Wei were to suffer because of me... I’m sure I would have hated it more than anything else in the world."
