The Demon King is an Idiot [BL]-Chapter 167: A loop
It was repeating...
Hua Tianshu slightly frowned as he realized what was happening.
This was not just a memory. It was a scenario unconsciously created by Jie Fu Lian’s mind, reflecting his deepest thoughts and feelings.
Jie Fu Lian desperately wanted to go back to that time when he could carelessly laugh and play around without having any worries. He blamed himself for being the reason why such days no longer existed.
His desire to go back and his feelings of guilt led his mind to create such a scenario which started out as a happy dream but ended up as a nightmare.
When he forced himself to wake up from the nightmare, he was dreaming once again and that dream soon turned into a nightmare, creating a loop that he could not get out of.
Hua Tianshu didn’t know how to help Jie Fu Lian but he still tried.
As Jie Fu Lian ran in a circle, eventually, getting his leg caught on the string that made him trip, Hua Tianshu went ahead, and with his arms stretched out, tried to catch him.
However, Jie Fu Lian passed right through his arms like a ghost.
It seemed as if Hua Tianshu was once again watching a memory that he could not interrupt or alter.
Just like before, Jie Fu Lian once again face-planted on the ground with a loud ’thud’, making Yin Ru laugh.
"I knew this was going to happen," Yin Ru commented, unable to control her laughter.
"Brother Ming, I think you should just give up," Xian Huan also sighed as he spoke.
"You are not even a little kid anymore. Brother Ming, do you not have anything else to do?" Xue Liang added as he asked.
"If you have nothing better to do then you should go and focus on your cultivation or you’ll never improve," Shi XiuYing also sighed as he joined in and spoke.
Jie Fu Lian unhappily pouted as he heard all their words and whined to himself, "I really thought I was going to be successful this time. It’s probably because of this damn wind that won’t cooperate!"
Everything was the same...
Hua Tianshu slightly frowned as he looked at the five people and tried to think of ideas through which he could make his presence known. He tried tapping their shoulders but his hand passed right through their skin like a ghost.
When Hua Tianshu realized that he could touch inanimate objects, he tried to kick stones around, thinking that it would catch their attention but the kicked stones were also ignored.
Hua Tianshu suddenly cut the string attached to the kite, hoping that it would be enough to catch Jie Fu Lian’s attention.
"Eh...?" Jie Fu Lian frowned as he looked at the kite that was lying on the ground with a broken string. "How did this happen?"
Yin Ru also looked at the broken string and didn’t seem to be too worried as she casually spoke, "It was probably too weak."
Jie Fu Lian looked to be a bit unhappy as he heard this and immediately bent down as he tied the broken pieces back together, turning his back to the other four people.
"Jie Fu Lian, you evil bastard!"
"It’s all because of you!"
"I hate you!"
"You ungrateful demon!"
"It’s all because of you!"
Jie Fu Lian’s frown deepened and he turned around in confusion, shock, and fear as he heard these words. The sight immediately horrified him and he fell back on his butt.
Yin Ru, with bloody tears running down her cheeks, looked at Jie Fu Lian with pure hatred as she shouted, "If only it hadn’t been for you! You made me like this!"
Xian Huan, who had a huge hole in his stomach that was constantly bleeding out, looked at Jie Fu Lian with empty eyes as he asked, "Brother Ming, why...? Why did you do this to us...?"
Hua Tianshu immediately stopped in front of Jie Fu Lian and covered his line of sight as he desperately spoke, "Jie Ming, it’s an illusion. Don’t be scared. It’s all in your head. Don’t let them scare you."
Jie Fu Lian failed to see Hua Tianshu and did not hear his voice either.
Xue Liang, with his eyes gouged out and his neck slit, reached out his hand to point at Jie Fu Lian as he spoke, "It’s because of you! It’s all because of you!"
Shi XiuYing, with a missing leg, was still covered in a fire that was slowly torturing him to death. He did not point at Jie Fu Lian nor did he blame the boy. The only thing he did was scream. His agonizing screams were so loud that it was enough to drive anyone insane.
They slowly moved closer to Jie Fu Lian and the boy, out of fear, started crawling back, trying to get as far away from them as possible.
"It wasn’t me... I didn’t do it... Please trust me... I’m innocent...!" Jie Fu Lian kept muttering out again and again, helplessly defending himself against these people that looked no better than ghosts.
"You are innocent. You didn’t do it. Jie Ming, look at me. Please don’t be afraid," Hua Tianshu hugged the boy, trying to comfort him as he spoke. However, Jie Fu Lian still failed to notice Hua Tianshu’s presence.
"Jie Fu Lian, you are a demon!" Jie Fu Lian heard his father’s voice and when he turned his head, he saw a burnt corpse looking straight back at him, pointing at him accusingly as it spoke, "You are not my son! You are a demon!"
Tears started uncontrollably falling down Jie Fu Lian’s eyes and he quickly covered his ears and closed his eyes as he ducked his head down and kept muttering the same thing again and again.
"It’s a dream. It’s all a dream. It’s all just a bad dream. I have to wake up. This is just a dream."
"You’re right. It’s a dream. It’s all a bad dream. Please wake up. Jie Ming, you have to wake up."
The illusion was once again reset and the loop continued.
"Senior martial sister Yin, I’m sure it will work this time!" A young Jie Fu Lian enthusiastically spoke as he showed Yin Ru a kite that he had personally made. His grin almost reaching his ears, and looking to be extremely proud of his creation.
This time, when Jie Fu Lian tied the string around the kite and started running with it, Hua Tianshu immediately cut the string and freed the kite that fell down almost immediately.
"The string is too weak," Yin Ru spoke with a small frown.
Jie Fu Lian frowned, feeling quite disappointed as he tied the broken pieces of the string together and once again started running.
Before he could take a complete round, the string was once again cut by Hua Tianshu.
Jie Fu Lian’s frown deepened and although he reattached the string, he felt that it was certainly odd for the same misfortunate to strike twice.
However, the string was once again cut for the third time and Jie Fu Lian could no longer keep his calm.
"Who is mocking me...?!" Jie Fu Lian pointed at the four people as he angrily questioned.
Yin Ru looked at the other three and shrugged her shoulders as she spoke, "It wasn’t us."
Jie Fu Lian didn’t look to be convinced as he heard this and spoke, "Whoever it is, you better stop playing around. If you cut the string one more time, I’ll kick your butt."
Shi XiuYing chuckled as he heard this and nodded his head.
Jie Fu Lian tied the broken pieces of the string together and once again tried running around, hoping the kite to take flight.
Unfortunately, his warning wasn’t enough for Hua Tianshu who cut the string for the fourth time.
"Who is it?!" Jie Fu Lian fumed.
"It wasn’t us," Xian Huan spoke, looking completely innocent.
"Could it be a ghost?" Xue Liang asked, stroking his chin.
"Ghost...?" Jie Fu Lian questioned, his eyebrows creasing together as he looked around, turning his back to the four.
"Jie Fu Lian, you evil bastard!" 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
"It’s all because of you!"
"I hate you!"
"You ungrateful demon!"
"It’s all because of you!"
Jie Fu Lian turned around with a frown as he heard these hateful curses and was immediately horrified at the sight.
Stumbling back and landing on his butt, Jie Fu Lian no longer had the luxury of worrying about the kite string being cut.
"Jie Ming, don’t look," Hua Tianshu once again sat in front of Jie Fu Lian, looking into his eyes as he spoke, "This is just a nightmare. It’s not real. You are not to blame. Shi XiuYing wasn’t even killed in a fire. He was killed inside the abyss. Jin Long killed him. It wasn’t you."
No matter how desperately Hua Tianshu tried to convince Jie Fu Lian, the latter could neither see him nor hear his voice.
The same nightmare repeated itself over again and as the four horrifying corpses moved closer to Jie Fu Lian, the boy covered his ears and ducked his head down as he repeated to himself over and over again, "It’s a dream. It’s all a dream. It’s all just a bad dream. I have to wake up. This is just a dream."
