Chapter 172: This is Yu Wei

"When did she go out?" Jie Fu Lian asked as he looked at Hua Tianshu.

Hua Tianshu shrugged his shoulders, "I don’t know."

"Just come in," Jie Fu Lian replied to Jin Shifeng who came in accompanied by Elder Ren.

"There is something that I needed to say," Jin Shifeng sighed as she spoke, "Yu Wei isn’t dead."

Both Hua Tianshu and Jie Fu Lian frowned as they heard this and felt greatly shocked and confused.

Jin Shifeng looked over at Elder Ren as she added, "This is Yu Wei."

"..." Jie Fu Lian felt as if this was a joke, but at the same time, Jin Shifeng’s face didn’t look to be one that was joking.

"What do you mean?" Hua Tianshu asked with a small frown as he glanced at Elder Ren and then looked back at Jin Shifeng.

Elder Ren sighed as she snapped her fingers and suddenly, the mask on her face fell off, changing her appearance almost immediately.

Jie Fu Lian couldn’t help but frown as he saw this sudden turn of events.

Both Hua Tianshu and Jie Fu Lian immediately recognized the mask as similar to those that were hanging inside Elder Ren’s house.

"What is the meaning of this?" Jie Fu Lian questioned.

"I was also unaware," Jin Shifeng sighed as she spoke, "For the longest time, I also thought that she had died."

Jie Fu Lian only felt even more confused as he heard this.

Elder Ren, who was now revealed to be Yu Wei thinly smiled as bowed her head and spoke, "I’m extremely sorry for tricking everyone, but this was the only way for me to stay alive."

"This makes no sense," Jie Fu Lian pointed out as he replied, "Yu Wei was just an attendant, was she not? How can she have the skills and spiritual energy to trick so many people?"

"I can explain everything," Yu Wei spoke as she sat down, "I was supposed to die. Actually, I was going to be killed, but Elder Ren saved me and took my place. Right before she died, she transferred all her spiritual cultivation to me."

Jie Fu Lian didn’t seem to be convinced as he heard this and asked, "Why would she do that?"

"Because she wanted me to live."

Jie Fu Lian frowned as he heard this and waited for the woman to continue.

"As you might have already heard, Young Master Jin Long was aware of my relationship with Jin Shifeng and even gave me an official position at the Jin Sect. At first, everything seemed to be peaceful and fine. However, one day, I overheard a secret that I should have never known. Out of fear, I went to the Yu Sect and talked to Sect Master Yao about it. By then, I was already being hunted down by the master of curses. I thought Sect Master Yao would be able to save me but... I was wrong."

"Why didn’t you go to Jin Shifeng?" Hua Tianshu asked, feeling a little suspicious.

"I was afraid" Yu Wei admitted as she looked down at the ground, "I was afraid of finding out whether she already knew about Jin Long or not. I was also afraid of putting her in danger."

"Then why did you choose Sect Master Yao. According to what I know, I don’t think you had a pleasant relationship with Sect Master Yao," Jie Fu Lian pointed out.

Yu Wei nodded her head as she agreed and spoke, "You are right. I did not have a good relationship with her but I trusted her. I thought she would always choose to do the right thing, but I was wrong about her. As soon as I told her what I had heard, she looked to be shocked and immediatey asked me how I knew all of it. Her reaction was odd and I immediately figured out that it wasn’t the first time that she was hearing that secret. I could not understand her betrayal and we ended up having an argument."

Jie Fu Lian, "What was that secret that made you feel so afraid?" 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

Yu Wei gulped as she heard this question and looked back at Jie Fu Lian as she firmly spoke, "The real reason why the Yan Sect was destroyed."

Jie Fu Lian’s eyes slightly widened and his frown deepened as he heard this, "What was it?"

"Madness," Yu Wei replied, without any hesitation, "It was simply that crazy man’s delusion."

Jie Fu Lian couldn’t help but feel confused as he heard this. Desperate for the answer, he asked, "What do you mean? Speak clearly."

"Do you know what the master of curses does?" Yu Wei asked.

"He curses people and does all the dirty work for Jin Long."

Yu Wei shook her head as she denied this and spoke, "That’s not it. He divines the future and reveals fates."

Jie Fu Lian couldn’t help but feel a little speechless as he heard this. He and Hua Tianshu had surely made fun of the Master of curses by saying he looked like a con artist who faked divinations, but they had never expected their jokes to come true like this.

"He is not a con artist and he doesn’t trick people," Yu Wei added, guessing what was going on inside Hua Tianshu and Jie Fu Lian’s mind, "He is one of the most powerful divinators out there and used to work for Jin Long father as well."

"So they destroyed the Yan Sect because of a divination...?" Jie Fu Lian hesitantly questioned, not knowing whether he was supposed to laugh at this nonsense or not.

Yu Wei nodded her head, confirming it as she spoke, "You might find this hard to believe but you are right. The Yan Sect was destroyed because of a divination."

"..."

"So what was that divination?" Hua Tianshu sighed as he asked, "What could have made Jin Long believe that the Yan Sect needed to be destroyed?"

"His own death," Yu Wei spoke as she replied, "The master of curses had foreseen Jin Long’s death and in order to prevent that, Jin Long had falsely accused the Yan Sect of harboring demons and had the entire sect destroyed, killing everyone and burning it to the ground."

Althought Jie Fu Lian had already lost his faith in Jin Long, he still wanted to believe that Jin Long was not crazy enough to do something like this. However, it didn’t look like Yu Wei was lying and oddly enough, this reason sounded highly possible.

"As soon as I heard the truth, I ran for help to Sect Master Yao, who betrayed me and called the master of curses to silence me. If it hadn’t been for Elder Ren, I would have already been dead."

"Did you tell Elder Ren the truth?"

Yu Wei shook her head as she spoke, "I didn’t tell her anything. She was the one who overheard our conversation. As soon as I stepped out from Sect Master Yao’s view, Elder Ren pulled me away and told me that I would be killed no matter how far I ran. She told me that it was important for me to stay alive since I was a very important witness that could be the key to bringing Jin Long down."

"So she transferred her spiritual energy and core to you before running away and taking your place while you took hers...?" Jie Fu Lian hesitantly questioned.

Yu Wei noddded her head, "I did not know she would die such a horrible death... I was just afraid and did exactly as I was told."

"Then why did you never reach out to Jin Shifeng? I thought you two were in love? Why did you stay quiet all this time?"

"I was waiting," Yu Wei sighed as she spoke, "At first, I didn’t know if I could keep trusting Jin Shifeng since Sect Master Yao had already turned out to be a traitor. However, after a while, as I watched her from afar, I understood that she couldn’t have known anything and was trapped just like me. I could have told her everything, but then, I would be putting both of us in danger and Elder Ren’s death would have been meaningless."

"So what were you waiting for?"

"You," Yu Wei replied, looking straight back at Jie Fu Lian as she spoke, "Even after destroying the entire Yan Sect, fate did not change and it was said that you’d come back to destroy the Jin Sect and kill Jin Long. I believed in that future and I was waiting for you to come back."

Jie Fu Lian felt a little speechless as he heard this. All of it sounded a bit too ridiculous to be true. He did not believe in people who claimed to be able to foresee the future. In fact, something like fate, for him, was ever-changing and could not be foretold by anyone.

"So the reason why you changed your mind was because of her...?’ Hua Tianshu pointed at Yu Wei as he asked and Jin Shifeng nodded her head without any hesitation as she confirmed it.

"She came to me and revealed her identity. At first, I was also confused like you, but I wasn’t mad at her. In fact, I was glad. She had done what she needed to do and in the end, she had managed to survive. That was all that mattered to me."

"..."
