Chapter 52: A wolf cub gets a better treatment.

From how the woman acted towards Jin Long and Duan Luoyang, Jie Fu Lian had first thought she was a strict woman with a bad temper, however, it seemed that her behavior towards the little wolf cub was a bit too different from her behavior towards her own husband.

Her cheeks didn’t blush red, her lips didn’t curl up in a smile and her eyes also didn’t soften up, but when she lowered her voice and patted the wolf cub’s head, Jie Fu Lian immediately felt that her demeanor had changed into a loving and caring one.

Jie Fu Lian was once again reminded of how nice it was to be a wolf cub. Biased treatment like this was also considered natural.

"Madam Jin, sorry to have disturbed you," Hua Tianshu sighed as he bowed his head and apologized first before reaching out to pick up the wolf cub.

However, the sly wolf cub reacted first and jumped up into Jin Shifeng’s arms.

Jin Shifeng didn’t seem to mind it. In fact, she looked to be a bit surprised and delighted by the wolf cub’s action. She picked the wolf cub up and kept brushing the wolf cub’s back as she commented, "It’s quite obedient and lovely. Cultivator Hua has done a good job raising it."

Jie Fu Lian raised his head proudly, feeling quite delighted with the sudden compliment. His eyes landed on Hua Tianshu expectantly, as if asking the man to praise him as well.

Unfortunately enough, Hua Tianshu only glared at the little wolf cub.

"Madam Jin, I heard that you were the one who prepared a banquet for us," Duan Luoyang suddenly spoke up as he scratched the back of his neck. He was afraid that if he didn’t interrupt, Hua Tianshu would end up rudely snatching the wolf cub away from the woman.

"I hope the food was to your liking," Jin Shifeng responded, without putting much thought or emotion into it.

Her face lacked emotions so much so that the response made Jie Fu Lian wonder if she prepared the banquet willingly or if she was forced to prepare it.

"We enjoyed it!" Duan Luoyang exclaimed with a wide grin, "We were planning on thanking you in person but you weren’t there. Who would have known we’d meet you here like this. Such a coincidence."

"There is no need to thank me in person," Jin Shifeng sounded quite humble as she replied, "I’m just glad to know that you enjoyed the banquet."

The wolf cub suddenly licked Jin Shifeng’s hand. It seemed that the little animal also wanted to show his gratitude.

Unexpectedly enough, Jin Shifeng actually smiled as she looked down at the wolf cub and asked, "Are you also thanking me?"

The wolf cub nodded its little head enthusiastically and Jin Shifeng chuckled, feeling even more attached to the little animal.

Duan Luoyang gulped as he side-glanced at Hua Tianshu.

If eyes could kill, Jin Shifeng would have already been six feet under.

The wolf cub happily licked Jin Shifeng’s hand a few more times and Hua Tianshu couldn’t help but frown as he glared at the two.

"Cultivator Hua, it is really a pleasure to have you here," Jin Shifeng seemed to have noticed Hua Tianshu’s frown and she thought it was because the man felt a little left out of the conversation, so she immediately spoke up in an attempt to brighten up his mood.

"I see," Hua Tianshu replied.

"..." That was quite a rude response and nobody knew what to say to that.

The little wolf cub couldn’t help but want to laugh as he mentally mocked Hua Tianshu, ’So jealous that you can’t even answer properly hehe. Too bad, you’re not me. If you turned yourself into a wolf, perhaps you would have also been treated like this by the pretty lady.’

Jin Shifeng cleared her throat as she asked, "This might sound a bit rude of me, but there is something that I’m curious about. Why did cultivator Hua decide to visit us so suddenly?"

We came to steal information from the Jin sect... That was clearly not something Hua Tianshu could openly admit and the man was quite bad at lying as well, so instead of replying, he looked over at Duan Luoyang expectantly, hoping for him to answer the question

Duan Luoyang coughed as he noticed his master’s gaze and immediately understood the hint.

"After Young Master Jie Fu Lian’s death, Master has cut off ties with a lot of his friends and acquaintances. It has already been eight years so he is trying to reconcile with everyone."

"..." Hua Tianshu suddenly felt the need to smack his disciple on the back of his head.

Hua Tianshu and reconciliation did not belong in the same sentence. When coming up with a lie, one should always make sure their lie was believable...!

Thankfully Jin Shifeng didn’t know Hua Tianshu that well and hence when she heard this, she immediately believed it. Jin Long who knew Hua Tianshu a little couldn’t help but find it a bit hard to believe, but in the end, he didn’t dare say anything against it.

"If you are here to reconcile, there is no need." Jin Shifeng spoke up with a small sigh as she shook her head, "We never cut off our ties with cultivator Hua and we would naturally not do so in the future as well. If you ever need help, we would always be there to lend our assistance."

For some reason, her words were very convincing.

Jie Fu Lian nudged the woman’s hand and purred like a cat as he gently rubbed his head against her palm.

This was another way of saying ’thanks’.

Jin Shifeng chuckled as she saw the little wolf cub acting like a spoiled pet cat. She always thought wolves were more alike dogs but it seemed that this wolf cub resembled a cat more than a dog.

"Ai Ming, you are heavy." Hua Tianshu could no longer endure and in the end, he decided to speak up. He glared at the little wolf cub as he added, "Stop misbehaving and come here."

He opened his hands and instead of grabbing the wolf cub, he waited for the wolf cub to jump over.

The little wolf cub happily jumped over to its owner and Jin Shifeng felt a little disappointed.

"We have been traveling without rest for days now," Hua Tianshu spoke up as he informed, "I would like to accompany Madam Jin a little more but I’m afraid we need to go back and rest now."

Jin Shifeng didn’t argue, she simply nodded her head as she spoke, "Then, we’ll meet after your rest. I have already made preparations. Jin Long can lead you to our guest rooms."

Jin Long enthusiastically nodded his head.

"Much thanks," Duan Luoyang politely cupped his hands together as he properly said his thanks and farewell.

As they walked towards the guest rooms, Jie Fu Lian couldn’t help but feel curious as he sent a voice transmission and asked, "How can she be so strong? She is at the half-step stage of the divine realm. In another few years, she’ll be the same as Elder Tai Ho. How can such a person be hidden here? I’ve never even heard her name."

"So she seemed suspicious, that’s why you chased after her and jumped into her arms?"

"..." For the first time, it felt as if Hua Tianshu was not being calm-minded.

"She’s beautiful and strong. How could I not be curious?" Jie Fu Lian defended himself.

"She’s from the Yu Sect," Hua Tianshu sighed as he informed, "The Yu sect has a clear distinction between their male disciples and their female disciples. The male disciples are given tasks outside the sect to make a reputation for themselves. Hence, some of the male Yu Sect disciples are quite known across the martial world."

Hua Tianshu gently stroked the fluffy hair of the Wolf cub as he continued, "Their female disciples are not given the same amount of freedom. The Yu sect believes that men and women are born different and hence, they need to be trained differently in order to achieve their full potential. Their female disciples hardly ever leave the sect and their identities are also kept a secret. They mostly practice in seclusion and in the end, even with no real-world experience, they still grow up to be strong. Compared to Yu sect’s male disciples, their female disciples are a lot stronger."

Jie Fu Lian didn’t feel too shocked when he heard this. The Yu sect was one of the great eight cultivation sects so it was only natural for him to have heard of them, but he never met a female disciple from the Yu Sect. Hearing legends of their strength was one thing but witnessing one of those so-called hidden talents was another.

If all the female disciples of the Yu sect were as strong as Jin Shifeng, the rumors certainly didn’t do them justice.

The real deal was a lot more impressive and even a little terrifying.
