As Hua Tianshu looked around, he couldn’t help but feel a little impressed. Although this was a demonic beast’s dwelling, it looked luxurious and nothing less than a palace made by humans.

The ceiling was so high up that one would not even notice it unless he turned his head up to look for it. Flowers, red curtains, gold statues, and high-quality furniture were used to decorate the place.

If there were servants running around with fruit baskets and drinks, Hua Tianshu would have really believed that they had entered a Confucianist king’s palace.

In the middle of the room, there were red curtains that blocked off a certain section of the room. From the marble steps leading towards the closed curtains, it was clear that the blocked section was pretty important.

"Master Jie Ming...? It’s really you!" Suddenly, Jie Fu Lian was greeted by a familiar voice and it seemed that the voice was coming from behind the red curtain.

Before Jie Fu Lian could properly react, the owner of the voice pushed the curtains open and ran over in his human form to hug Jie Fu Lian.

His skin was a bit tanned and his eyes were the color of gold while his hair was a mix of blue and green. From head to toe, he was covered in gold ornaments, complimenting his eyes, and the clothes he wore were made out of fine silk and looked to be a bit too elegant and beautiful on him. He had sharp features that looked quite alluring and when he smiled, his entire demeanor seemed to have turned soft, adding a special charm to him.

His entire presence perfectly matched the luxurious atmosphere of this demonic beast palace. Just from looking at him, one could guess that he was the owner of this place and also the one that they had come to meet.

Hua Tianshu couldn’t help but frown as he looked at the unknown man.

"Master, I really missed you!" The man exclaimed happily.

"I’m afraid I didn’t have the time to miss you back," Jie Fu Lian chuckled as he awkwardly replied, "Actually, I was dead for most of it."

The man nodded his head as he spoke, "I heard about that."

"Is this the king of demonic beasts?" Hua Tianshu interrupted as he questioned and Jie Fu Lian nodded his head as he confirmed it.

"It’s a... Peacock?" There was a hint of hesitation and disbelief in Hua Tianshu’s voice as he asked.

Jie Fu Lian once again nodded his head as he confirmed it.

The king of demonic beasts turned his head to look at Hua Tianshu and smiled as he looked back at Jie Fu Lian and asked, "Master, who is this?"

"He’s a friend," Jie Fu Lian proudly replied, feeling a little embarrassed to call the man a friend, "His name is Hua Tianshu."

The demonic beast king looked to be a little shocked as he heard the name and he looked back at Hua Tianshu with a thoughtful expression.

After a solid minute of contemplating, he cautiously asked, "Master, did the two of you really become friends...?"

"Eh?" Jie Fu Lian tilted his head in confusion as he heard this question which seemed to be implying something, "Why is it shocking? Do you already know him?"

The demonic beast king awkwardly chuckled as he scratched the back of his neck and spoke, "We haven’t met but I do know his name. I don’t know if Master remembers or not but while you were here, you constantly mentioned him. It is impossible for me to forget his name."

"..." Jie Fu Lian didn’t know if he wanted to laugh or cry as he heard this. At the time, he truly hated Hua Tianshu and hence, he had constantly cursed the man in front of this demonic beast.

When Hua Tianshu heard the demonic beast king’s words, he didn’t quite understand the deeper meaning but he did feel a little happy when he thought about the fact that Jie Fu Lian constantly thought about him and mentioned him.

"Well, things ended up like this," Jie Fu Lian cleared his throat as he spoke up, "When I got to know him better, I figured he wasn’t as bad as I had thought he was. People can change. Thankfully, he grew up to be a decent man."

The demonic beast king felt a little suspicious as he heard this and looked between the two for a minute before he formed a misunderstanding in his head and muttered, "I see... So that’s how it is."

"Huh?"

"You two must be dating!" The demonic beast king chimed and both Hua Tianshu and Jie Fu Lian choked on empty air as they suddenly heard this unexpected comment.

"T-That’s not it!" Jie Fu Lian coughed as he defended himself.

The demonic beast king smiled as he looked at Jie Fu Lian knowingly, "Dare to not confess yet?"

Hua Tianshu’s ears turned red and he immediately looked away without saying anything.

"It’s a misunderstanding!" Jie Fu Lian waved his hand in front of him as he continued to defend their relationship, "We are really just friends. Ordinary friends."

The demonic beast king laughed as he heard this but didn’t believe it as he asked in a whisper, winking at Jie Fu Lian, "An ordinary friend can make your heart race like this?"

"..." Jie Fu Lian couldn’t even say anything against that since his heart really was racing with excitement. He felt as if there was definitely something wrong with him, otherwise, how could he be happy about someone misunderstanding their innocent relationship...?!

"Master, you are still an open book," The demonic beast king chuckled, teasing Jie Fu Lian.

"I do not believe our relationship is something that the great king of demonic beasts needs to worry about. And in any case, there is a reason why we are here today," Hua Tianshu quickly cleared his throat as he spoke up, "We’ve heard about your deeds. Three days ago, you kidnapped a bunch of people from the Yu Sect. We are here to take them back."

The demonic beast king nodded his head as he heard this, "That’s right. I do remember them but I’m afraid I can’t let you take them back."

Jie Fu Lian’s face suddenly turned stiff as he heard this and he became a little serious as he questioned, "What do you mean?"

"I didn’t kidnap their sect master because of Master Jie Fu Lian," The demonic beast shrugged his shoulder as he revealed, "I kidnapped her because she killed twenty demonic beasts from my mountain and stole their souls."

Hua Tianshu and Jie Fu Lian frowned as they heard this and looked at each other, seeming to be equally confused and shocked.

"Why would she do that?" Jie Fu Lian questioned.

"To sell those souls," The demonic beast king sighed as he spoke, "In this world, there are not many that can kill demonic beasts but there are certainly many who would want to covet the souls of dead demonic beasts. They can be used to make weapons, elixirs, and even curses."

"Curses?" Jie Fu Lian raised his eyebrow as he repeated.

The demonic beast king nodded his head as he spoke, "It is a banned practice. It takes about ten demonic beast souls to make a single regular curse and about a hundred souls to make a high-grade curse. A person affected by a regular curse would simply have a bad day or two and the curse wears off quickly, however, a person affected by a high-grade curse might even lose their life if they don’t break the curse in time."

Jie Fu Lian instinctually turned his head to look at Hua Tianshu as if asking: Did you know about this?

Guessing the man’s thoughts, Hua Tianshu quickly shook his head.

"And who did she sell this to?" Jie Fu Lian asked as he looked back at the demonic beast king.

"I don’t know who he was. I didn’t see his face but I can still recognize him if I see him again."

"How?"

"He has a scar on his left arm. It runs all the way down from the top of his arm to his wrist. It looks quite old but painful nonetheless."

Jie Fu Lian nodded his head as he heard this and asked, "Do you know what he would use the souls for?"

"I don’t know," The demonic beast king shrugged his shoulders with a sigh as he responded, "But I can guess that it won’t be anything good. After all, he bought all twenty souls. If he needs that many, he has to be working on a curse."

Jie Fu Lian and Hua Tianshu gulped in unison, both feeling equally worried.

"Do you know why she did it?"

"Her sect’s about to be wiped away completely and she seems to be in dire need of money to keep her sect master title. She probably did it for the money. It’s the most possible reason," The demonic beast king spoke, acting as if he wasn’t the one who caused the dire conditions of the Yu Sect.
