Chapter 90: I’m also not a good man.

Jie Fu Lian liked to believe that he was one of the people who knew Jin Long the best and it was hard to imagine Jin Long agreeing to marry someone on impulse like that.

Recently, he was starting to learn new information about Jin Long and it really made him feel as if the person he knew was not the same as the current Jin Long.

He couldn’t help but ask himself whether he had been mistaken about Jin Long. Had the man drastically changed after his death or had he always been like this but Jie Fu Lian had simply failed to notice...?

Jie Fu Lian suddenly remembered what Hua Tianshu had told him. He had clearly said that Jin Shifeng and Jin Long didn’t have a loving relationship with each other. Even after their marriage, they hardly interacted with each other. While Jin Shifeng was mostly busy cultivating in seclusion, Jin Long was busy with administrative work.

From what Jie Fu Lian had seen and noticed, Hua Tianshu’s words seemed to be correct. Whenever Jin Long and Jin Shifeng interacted, there was definitely no loving atmosphere around them. In fact, the atmosphere around them was so awkward that one would guess they had a marriage not out of love but out of convenience.

If it was a marriage of convenience, the elders would certainly arrange it for them so it didn’t make sense that the idea was first proposed by Jin Shifeng and Jin Long.

"Actually, Jin Shifeng is a little special," Yao Fei smiled as she suddenly reminisced about the past and spoke, "She has been a part of our sect since she was a baby so I have closely watched her grow older. When she was little, she wanted to grow up to be a beast tamer but unfortunately, our sect doesn’t have a history related to beast trainers so we couldn’t let her choose that path. I thought she understood, but seeing that she is still raising a few spiritual beasts, I guess I was wrong. But that isn’t what makes her special, it’s just a part of it."

Jie Fu Lian and Hua Tianshu attentively listened to the woman and tried to learn as much as they could, hoping that this information could become useful for them in the future.

"Since she was a child, she had a weird habit," Yao Fei spoke as she softly chuckled, "She would often wear clothing meant for male disciples and insisted on joining morning classes meant for male disciples. At one point, I think she truly believed that she was a boy. It was quite a hilarious situation. As she grew up, she eventually stopped doing such ridiculous things and focused more on secluded cultivation. However, If I remember correctly, after she turned twelve, she used to strictly dislike boys. When her martial sisters started showing more interest in dating and marriage, she didn’t join them and started feeling alienated from them. I was very worried about her."

Jie Fu Lian felt even more confused as he heard this. The Jin Shifeng that Yao Fei talked about certainly did not sound like a woman who would impulsively decide to marry a man she just met.

"One day, I invited her over, wanting to talk to her about her strained relationship with her martial sisters. To this day, I still remember what she said. It was quite the shock."

"What did she say?" Hua Tianshu carefully asked, raising his eyebrow.

Yao Fei sighed as she replied, "She told me she wanted to get married to a woman."

Both Jie Fu Lian and Hua Tianshu felt a little stunned as they heard this. If Jin Shifeng had truly said this, there was probably even more reason for her not to marry Jin Long..!

"She felt no attraction towards her male counterparts and at the time, she used to deeply adore one of our sect attendants," Yao Fei sighed as she continued, "I was deeply worried about her. I tried to make her understand that it was difficult for a woman to get married to another woman and after I dismissed the attendant, it looked like she understood me. After that, she hardly ever gave me any trouble and dedicated all of her time to cultivation."

Jie Fu Lian gulped as he heard this and suddenly had a thought: What if Jin Shifeng didn’t marry Jin Long out of love, but instead married him to escape from this place that disregarded her likes and forced her to follow a predetermined path?

If that were the case, their marriage would be explainable on behalf of Jin Shifeng, however, it would still leave out the reason why Jin Long also agreed.

"And then, she got married to Jin Long?" Hua Tianshu asked and Yao Fei nodded her head as she confirmed.

"Do you think they were in love?" Jie Fu Lian unhesitantly questioned.

This time, Yao Fei took a moment to think about it before she truthfully responded, "Not at all."

"..." Jie Fu Lian felt a little speechless.

"When she asked me to bless her marriage, it didn’t look like she loved him at all, and Jin Long also didn’t look like he adored her. The relationship between them was quite weird. Rather than saying it was love, it would be more accurate to define it as a need. It looked like they proposed this marriage because both of them had something to gain from it."

Jie Fu Lian frowned as he felt a little unhappy, "Then why did you bless their marriage?" 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

"As I’ve said, it was their decision and I had a good relationship with Sect Master Jin. There was no need for me to oppose their marriage."

"But they didn’t love each other!" Jie Fu Lian reminded.

"Not all marriages are based on love," Yao Fei thinly smiled as she spoke, "Some are based on convenience, and it’s quite common to see those types of marriages."

For some reason, Jie Fu Lian felt extremely angry as he heard this and he wasn’t the only one. Even Hua Tianshu felt unhappy as he heard Yao Fei’s words. Perhaps it was because he had been rejected today, Hua Tianshu especially felt unhappy upon hearing the word ’love’.

With a sigh, Jie Fu Lian tried his best to calm his anger and asked, "Do you have any guess as to why they got married? You said they had something to gain from each other, what was it?"

Yao Fei, "I don’t know. It seemed like a secret known only by the two of them."

Jie Fu Lian felt a little frustrated by this response and decided not to ask any more questions as he thought about his own pitiful case: People out there were getting married out of convenience while he couldn’t even date the one he loved. This world was truly unfair!

"Is that everything you wanted to ask?"

"Actually, we still have a few questions left," Hua Tianshu replied with a sigh as he asked, "Why did you collect demonic beast souls?"

Suddenly, Yao Fei’s body turned a little stiff and the smile on her face dropped as she looked at Hua Tianshu.

"Why would you want to know that?" She questioned back, her tone sounding a bit too strict.

"The person that you sold the demonic beast souls to... He might also be related to this case," Hua Tianshu replied.

"I do not know what case you are working on but it would be best if you don’t go after that man," Yao Fei seriously warned as she met Hua Tianshu’s eyes, "He is not someone you would enjoy being enemies with."

Jie Fu Lian scoffed, "Well, do I look like someone you’d enjoy being enemies with?"

Yao Fei only threw him a side glance before she looked back at Hua Tianshu and warned, "He is not a good man."

In the first place itself, Hua Tianshu and Jie Fu Lian never guessed him to be a good man. If he was buying demonic beast souls and planning to make a high-grade curse, he was definitely not a good person.

"I’m also not a good man," Jie Fu Lian smiled mockingly as he commented and his expression perfectly matched what he had said.

Yao Fei looked at the man and unhesitantly asked, "Then how many people have you killed?"

Jie Fu Lian blinked as he felt a little stunned by this question. If he were to answer this question as the demon king Shen Fang, he would certainly have an extraordinary number to boast about, but when answering this question as Jie Fu Lian, he couldn’t help but feel a little embarrassed.

Although he had been accused of killing many, in reality, he had only killed demons who couldn’t even be considered people.

Yao Fei took his silence as an answer and smirked as she spoke, "He has killed many. To the point that you can’t even count."

"..." Jie Fu Lian didn’t know why but he suddenly felt the need to argue—He was good at counting so no matter how many there were, he would certainly be able to count it!
