The Demon King is an Idiot [BL]-Chapter 91: He was riChapter
"Who is he?" Hua Tianshu questioned. Even after hearing Yao Fei’s words, the man didn’t look to be fazed.
"I do not know," Yao Fei shrugged her shoulders as she replied and Hua Tianshu’s eyebrows creased together in confusion.
"If you do not know, how can you say he is a dangerous man who has killed many?"
"I can see it," Yao Fei firmly spoke, "He has an extraordinary ability to curse people. I have lived for a long time, but I have never met another like him. The curses he creates are truly something to fear and can never be easily detected. He has an aura of death following him. The moment you look into his eyes, you’ll be able to tell that the man has killed many to the point of forgetting the names and faces of his victims."
Jie Fu Lian gulped as he heard this and frowned as he asked, "If he is as dangerous as you say, why did you work with him? Instead of selling him those demonic beast souls, you should’ve reported him. Such a suspicious man should be reported without fail!"
Yao Fei gave a nod, "You are right, I should’ve reported him when I got the chance to but..."
"But?"
"He was rich," Yao Fei monotonously continued, "He offered a lot of money and I couldn’t refuse. If I reported him, he would definitely not pay me and there is also a risk of falling prey to one of his curses. Why would I want to risk that?"
"..." Jie Fu Lian and Hua Tianshu felt a little speechless, not knowing if they should laugh or cry.
It seemed that the dire conditions of the Yu Sect had driven Sect Master Yao crazy...
Jie Fu Lian’s eyes trailed down to the shiny stones that surrounded the woman and he couldn’t help but question, "Why the stones?"
Yao Fei brightly smiled as she heard this question and enthusiastically replied, "Because I love them."
Jie Fu Lian looked at the woman as if he was looking at a madwoman.
There was clearly nothing special about these stones and yet, she was treating them so preciously. She was surely a madwoman.
Jie Fu Lian shook his head in disappointment and got ready to leave but Yao Fei suddenly stopped him as she spoke, "Daoist Hua Lian, have you heard about spirits?"
Jie Fu Lian looked back at the woman as he raised an eyebrow, "Spirits?"
Yao Fei nodded her head.
Jie Fu Lian thought about it for a moment but sighed as he spoke, "I have heard about them but my knowledge is certainly not deep."
He was a well-known master at ’the art of controlling spirits’ so there was absolutely no other person in this world who understood spirits better than him, however, he knew that it would seem weird if he were to reveal his extensive knowledge of spirits so he decided to lie.
Yao Fei, "Just like how every person has a soul, every object has a possibility of developing a spirit."
Jie Fu Lian nodded his head as he heard this. This was certainly true and he had learned about it. If ordinary grass was planted in an area rich in spiritual energy, even the grass would develop a spirit of its own. It wasn’t much of a secret and many already knew about this.
"There are two methods through which objects can develop spirits," Yao Fei spoke up as she explained, "The first one is the most widely known method. Through the absorption of spiritual energy, slowly and steadily, anything and everything can develop a spirit when a specific amount of time has passed. However, it would take hundreds and thousands of years for a spirit to develop using such a method."
Jie Fu Lian and Hua Tianshu nodded their heads in unison as they heard this and waited for the woman to explain further.
"In comparison to this method, the second one is much easier but may give a bit of a varied result," Yao Fei smiled as she put down a stone and completed the circle around her as she spoke, "By caring for an object so much that it is forced to develop a spirit."
Jie Fu Lian frowned as he heard this. He had certainly heard about such a method but it was a different version.
According to what he had learned, the second method was too uncommon and would not produce a full spirit that could think for itself.
If somebody wrote curses on a wooden board every day, there would come a time when the wooden board would be forced to develop a spirit and the spirit would make the curses written on the board come true.
This method was used to create weapons and such weapons were famous among demonic cultivators.
"I’ve actually heard a different story," Jie Fu Lian spoke up as a reply, "This second method only works when an object is constantly absorbing negative energy. Feelings of hate, despair, and revenge are most commonly connected to these objects that are forced to develop a spirit."
"That is the most commonly used practice," Yao Fei sighed as she informed, "Unfortunately, there are not many that know the true beauty and power of spirits. By nurturing an object with love and affection, you can force it to develop a spirit. The spirit would not be fully formed and would need your help, but it would still be quite powerful."
Jie Fu Lian couldn’t help but look at the woman in disbelief.
He couldn’t help but wonder: If her words were really true, how come he had never heard of it before this...?
"Do you remember Daoist Jie Fu Lian?" Yao Fei suddenly asked and Jie Fu Lian almost choked on empty air as he heard his own name being mentioned out of nowhere.
"It would be hard not to remember," Hua Tianshu was more composed as he replied.
"Not many recognized him for his abilities," Yao Fei sighed as she spoke, "He was truly an amazing cultivator. He could control spirits at will without even needing to form a bond with them."
Jie Fu Lian proudly nodded his head as he agreed.
"He was what you’d call a spirit master."
"Huh?" Jie Fu Lian titled his head in confusion. It was certainly the first time he was hearing such a term.
"It’s alright for you to be shocked and confused," Yao Fei laughed as she continued, "It is a relatively new term and isn’t commonly used by many. A spirit master is a person who is blessed with the natural ability to control spirits. In this world, Xue Lan was the first spirit master and after his death, Jie Fu Lian became the second spirit master. Except for these two, so far, there have been no other spirit masters."
Jie Fu Lian couldn’t help but feel as if the woman was spouting nonsense but at the same time, he was also attentively listening to every word she spoke. Although it sounded like nonsense, it was still pretty interesting.
"Throughout the years, there have been many who have tried to become spirit masters but so far, nobody has fully succeeded," Yao Fei sighed as she continued, "However, thanks to those people, the knowledge available about spirits have grown and although one may not become a spirit master, it is quite possible that one can learn to control a spirit."
Jie Fu Lian’s eyebrows creased together as he heard this but he dare not interrupt the woman.
Suddenly, the glimmering stones that were placed around the woman in a circle, started glowing and let out a faint aura of a weak spirit.
Jie Fu Lian’s eyes immediately widened in surprise and he instinctually backed away.
"Just like how demonic cultivators pour negative feelings onto an object to develop a forced spirit, one can also pour in positive energies and develop an equally powerful spirit."
As she finished speaking, the stones rose up in the air and started rotating around her, letting out a blinding white light.
"Spirits are quite amazing beings, don’t you think so, Daoist Hua Lian?" Yao Fei asked, her voice sounding completely calm.
Jie Fu Lian gulped as he stood up and stepped back.
When the blinding white light dispersed away, the woman was also nowhere to be seen.
"They really are... Amazing..." Jie Fu Lian muttered to himself as he looked at the empty jail in astonishment.
"How are we going to explain this to the demonic beast king...?" Hua Tianshu asked, his tone a bit too emotionless.
"..." Jie Fu Lian didn’t have an answer to that.
It would certainly feel awkward to tell Mo Xue that his prisoner had suddenly disappeared into thin air with the help of stones...
"Let’s just not talk about what happened," Hua Tianshu suggested and Jie Fu Lian nodded his head as he agreed.
"But why did she suddenly talk about spirits?" Jie Fu Lian questioned.
"Hmm?"
"No, that’s not important," Jie Fu Lian shook his head as he immediately changed his question, "How was she able to do that? Even I can’t use spirits like that!"
Jie Fu Lian had only ever used spirits in a battle so he was naturally unaware of how one could use a spirit to teleport from one place to another.
