Chapter 207: Chapter 207: A Good Man Must Always Praise His Wife

Ethan Grant’s residence.

Yvette Aston was making breakfast in the kitchen. Ethan, who had just returned from dropping Summers off at school, leaned against the dining table and took a sip of water.

This Michelle Lockwood is indeed impressive; the kindergarten has already swapped principals, and it’s still being reformed.

Apparently, it was due to the principal and some teachers embezzling and accepting bribes.

"Buzz."

The phone rang, and Ethan glanced at it—surprisingly, it was Lilith Larson from Human Resources.

"Mr. Grant..." Lilith sounded a bit nervous, possibly secretly tipping Ethan off. "Yvette’s mom is causing trouble at the company, and both the chairman and the board are present. It’s putting her in the spotlight, and now they’re suggesting that Yvette be fired..."

"Yvette is my personal assistant. I oversee her employment status. Even the chairman doesn’t have the authority to fire my people," Ethan stated firmly.

"But... Yvette’s mom is causing a scene, what should we do?" Keeping things as they were wasn’t a solution.

Ethan’s face darkened, and he remained silent for a moment.

This woman, May Larson—was she heartless, or just plain malicious?

Even though Yvette is her daughter, is she trying to ruin her?

"You don’t need to worry about this." After hanging up, Ethan went to the balcony and called Caden Summers. "I’ll be at the company in forty minutes. Your mom has already been causing trouble there. Can you handle her? Don’t let Yvette know just yet."

Even over the phone, Ethan could sense Caden’s anger.

"She took money from Arthur Grant, I told her to return it, and now she’s causing a scene at the company’s entrance?" Caden’s voice was trembling with rage.

"Yvette, is she really your biological mother?" Ethan was a bit skeptical.

"I’ve doubted it myself, but I know my mom gave birth to a daughter. Maybe she wasn’t raised with me... I’m sorry, Mr. Grant, for causing you trouble. I’ll go handle it right away." Caden hurriedly hung up.

...

The Lockwood Family.

Michelle Lockwood was sipping coffee with a face mask on. Noticing Caden’s distraction, she lifted the mask and asked, "What’s up?"

Caden looked apologetic. "Boss, there’s an issue at home I need to sort out... Can I take a leave of absence?"

Michelle leaned back on the couch. "What’s going on?"

Caden didn’t want to say much.

After all, family scandals shouldn’t be aired.

"Not talking? Fine, no leave, unless... you take me with you," Michelle huffed.

"I’m in a hurry..." Caden said anxiously, inexplicably not wanting Michelle to witness his mom’s antics.

"No worries! I’ll drive!" Michelle chirped happily, giving Caden no chance to refuse; she was already changing clothes, wearing a mask, grabbing her car keys, and preparing to leave.

The sequence of actions was seamless.

She had just finished her face mask, didn’t even wash her face, and with a mask and sun hat, she got in the car. "Aren’t you in a rush? Get in!"

Caden hesitated for a moment, but then walked over and sighed. "Get off, I’ll drive."

Michelle snorted, playfully driving a wedge between them. "I drive fast, you know."

"Yeah, fast enough to end me young," Caden said helplessly.

Michelle raised an eyebrow, deliberately stepping on Caden’s foot as she got out of the car, moving close to his lips...

Caden’s ears turned slightly red, and he instinctively wanted to step back.

Michelle, stepping on his foot, lost her balance and fell right into his arms.

Caden had no choice but to hold her.

Michelle laughed like an enchantress. "You came on to me, now you have to take responsibility."

Caden didn’t know what to do with Michelle. This trip to the Grant Group might as well show Michelle what kind of family he comes from.

What kind of mother he has.

Perhaps once Michelle sees the reality of his mom, she’ll recognize the class differences, the poverty gap, the difference in perspectives, and upbringing between them...

Maybe, after seeing his mom’s true colors, Michelle will keep her distance from him.

"What happened?" Michelle asked while driving.

"My mom... got out of prison, took money from Arthur Grant, wants to marry off my sister, and now she’s making a scene at the Grant Group’s entrance," Caden said, a bit weary.

He didn’t know how to face his mother.

Michelle was taken aback, looking at Caden.

She had investigated his family situation.

But she hadn’t expected... his mom to be that kind of person?

It figures, though. As a housekeeper for The Aston Family, switching her daughter with Yvette Aston out of self-interest—so selfish.

...

Ethan Grant’s house.

After breakfast, Yvette glanced at her phone. A colleague from Grant Group had posted a video in the group chat, and the group was buzzing—it was about someone causing a scene. It was Yvette’s mom.

Yvette’s hand went numb as she stiffly clicked on the video.

It clearly showed May Larson making a scene on the ground, along with some Summers family relatives, including her third aunt.

Yvette stood up abruptly, nervously running out of the bathroom to see Ethan, already dressed and about to head out.

"Mr. Grant..." Yvette’s voice was choked. "Where are you going?"

"Back to the office. You stay here and wait for me," Ethan walked up to Yvette and pointed to his tie. "Does the color I chose look good?"

"It looks good..."

Ever since Yvette moved into Ethan Grant’s house, Ethan had been constantly seeking her opinion.

Except for major matters, for all household trivialities, he consulted Yvette’s thoughts and feedback, trying to appear clueless about everything.

No matter big or small, Ethan always praised Yvette. "Your judgment is always spot on."

Ethan understood well that Yvette was deeply sensitive and insecure, a trait that hadn’t developed overnight.

Changing her personality wasn’t going to happen overnight either.

Ethan was gradually providing Yvette with a sense of security and helping her regain her confidence.

In Yvette’s eyes, the fact that someone as excellent as Ethan praised her every day significantly boosted her self-esteem.

Yvette’s eyes welled up as she lowered her head. "Mr. Grant... my mom is causing trouble at the company, isn’t she?"

Ethan must have found out.

"I’ll handle it. You stay out of it," Ethan suggested that Yvette avoid getting involved.

Yvette nodded, knowing her presence would only escalate matters.

"Considering it’s your mom, how do you plan to handle this?" Ethan wanted to hear Yvette’s thoughts.

After all, there’s a blood relationship, and Ethan wouldn’t go too far against May Larson.

"Just get her out of there..." Yvette wasn’t sure what to do either. That was her mother, yet it felt like she wished she had never returned.

"Stay at home and wait for me. What do you want for dinner? I’ll have the butler buy the ingredients and send them over." Ethan rubbed Yvette’s head and kissed her forehead.

"Come back soon." Yvette looked at Ethan, nervous.

Besides asking him to return soon, Yvette didn’t know what else to say.

"I want your Mapo tofu; it’s better than the chef’s. It feels like my stomach is getting spoiled by you." Ethan squeezed Yvette’s hand and then turned to leave.

Yvette’s heart raced a little.

At least Ethan appreciated her cooking, which meant she held value to him.

Moreover, she enjoyed Ethan’s praise...

It made her feel at ease.
