Chapter 357: The state of the continent

"My name is Sekmala, and I’m the leader of the resistance. I used to be a general in the royal army, but after Flexom usurped the throne, I fled with my trusted followers, managed to save the last two of the royal line, and had out witches and wizards carve out this system in this mountain."

"Why this area?" Kai wondered

"It’s barren, barely gets any traffic, and is in the middle of nowhere. Beyond this town is the open desert where monsters and now demonic beasts lie. It’s also a good distance away from the nearest town, so this was the perfect place to set up our base."

Kai liked her reasoning. "Tell me, what steps are you taking to reclaim your kingdom?"

"Excuse me," Horisia interrupted. "May I ask a question?"

"Sure." Kai nodded

"Are you really from another continent? And is it true that you’ve killed two demonkings already?" Although Horisia heard this from her goddess, she still could barely wrap her head around it.

"What?! You’re from a different continent?!"

"And you’ve killed not one but TWO demon kings?!"

"No wonder your accent is so different, and some of your wives’ complexions are lighter than usual."

"Amazing."

"Yes, yes, it’s very cool and I am awesome. But back to business. What steps are you taking to reclaim your kingdom?"

Sekmala took out a large map and rolled it over the round table.

"This is where we are right now." She pointed to a town on the map. "We’re currently on the eastern side of the mountain range that stretches from coast to coast. In order to pass through to the western side, you need to take one of three pathways that were created by carving into the mountain."

Kai nodded as he listened.

"As you can see, the western side is where our civilization started."

On the western side of the man, there were tons of towns, cities, villages, and metropolitan areas, including the capital, where the castle was. This side housed the majority of the continent’s population.

The eastern side was the exact opposite. While it wasn’t run down or lacked development, it was still less populated, only having around 20 percent of the continent’s population, and had only two large cities, the rest being towns and villages.

"We’re using this to our advantage to build our forces. But another reason why we’re out here is that it will be easier for us to locate and conquer the ancient temples." Sekmala explained

Nadya leaned forward. "Ancient temples?"

The princess chimmed in. "Yes. There are four ancient temples dedicated to the Goddess Rauna that are scattered around the continent. Two on the eastern side and two on the western side. It’s said that whoever conquers the temples will gain extraordinary power."

"So how do you plan on distributing this power?" Gwen assumed that only one person would be able to claim the power. It reminded her of when she entered the labyrinth, and the greed inside people was released.

"Only those of royal blood can claim the power of the temple." The royal advisor spoke up. "You see, during the founding of our kingdom, the hero of the time ventured to these temples and claimed their power, using it to kill the demon queen and establish the kingdom. After that, he closed the temples and said that they shall be used again in a time of crisis."

"And you think that crisis is now?"

Everyone nodded.

Orsiren took over the explanation. "The ancient temples have been buried in the sand for many generations and have been lost to time. We don’t even know where they are, but we did manage to find ancient scriptures of their general location and have a sense of where they could be. Starting in the eastern area is better for us because there are fewer eyes on us here."

Kai liked that they had somewhat of a plan. Still, gaining power wasn’t enough.

"So what do you plan to do after claiming the four temples? Do you think that you’ll be strong enough to take on Flexom and the Demon Queen with your new strength?"

Everyone’s faces turned grim. It was clear that they didn’t think they would win, and this was why they were trying to recruit more people.

The royal advisor spoke up. "Currently, our plan was to claim the two temples on this side of the continent, allow for Horisia to heal, then fully occupy the eastern side."

"What’s your name, man? And you, princess. I keep referring to you as Royal Advisor Man in my head, and it takes a lot of brain power to think that long." Kai paused their important meeting just to ask this...

"Oh, my name is Setton."

"And I’m Isia." The princess bowed slightly.

"Thanks. Continue."

Setton nodded. "So, after taking the eastern side of the continent, we plan to fully reveal ourselves and strike hard at one of the most important places within the western side. During that assault, we’ll locate the other two temples and conquer them."

"Wow!" Kai couldn’t help but clap at their plan. "Honestly, your plan is really great. 10/10. However, there is one problem with it."

"What is it?" Horisia asked.

"The fact that you’ll lose! Seriously, do you think that you’ll stand a chance even after getting the power? Horisia, you didn’t even fight the demon queen, and look at you, all beaten up. By a dude named Flexom. That’s almost as bad as Carl."

"But when Orsiren gets the power, and after I heal, we can fight Flexom together and win!"

"Potentially. But have you even thought about whether the demon queen would join in on the fight or not? Your threat isn’t just Flexom, you know. Demons are after you guys as well."

"Of course, we know that!" Osiren slammed his fist onto the table. "But after the temples, I’ll have the power to protect my people, avenge my family, and reclaim our kingdom."

"Ha! You guys are lucky I’m here; otherwise, you would be walking to your deaths." To speed things along, Kai healed the hero instantly.

"W-What? I’m healed? I’m healed!" She felt all her strength return; no, she felt even stronger than that.

"Now that I’m here, let me tell you how things are going to go."
