Chapter 436: We got a prodigy in the making

Charlotte absorbed Kai’s words, clearing her mind and focusing on replicating the feeling of punching, kicking, or doing anything that was natural for her to do. Since mana was an extension of her body, it should be natural to perform.

’Okay, Char, you got this, focus.’ She took a deep breath, then created an icicle. This time, it was done properly, and when she fired it, the ice slammed into the rabbit, killing it instantly.

"OH MY GOSH! I DID IT! I FREAKING DID IT!" She jumped up with excitement, then ran over to Kai, giving him a hug.

"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" She was so happy that she finally understood how magic worked.

Kai didn’t expect her to get it on the first try, but it was good that she did. However, if his basic explanation was enough for her to go from being garbage to actually knowing what she was doing, then he thought that the education system on this continent was trash.

"Good job. Now, let’s move on to a bigger target. Karumi, see if there are any boars in the forest."

"Got it." She left, then came back after three seconds with a large boar in her hand.

"Great! Now, attack it while it charges at you."

Charlotte nodded.

Karumi let the boar go, then it charged at Charlotte.

Now that she understood how to use magic, she froze the boar’s legs, then created multiple ice spikes that impaled its body, killing it nearly instantly.

"I did it! Haha! This is so easy now! I can beat anything you throw at me!"

---

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! HELP MEEEEEE!! I WAS WRONG!!!"

Kai took what Charlotte said as a test, so instead of having her fight more animals, he had her fight against a primal beast. It was the lightning bear, which was actually a frost bear on this continent, which was surprising to him.

Charlotte stood no chance, of course, but that didn’t matter to Kai. He was punishing her for being overconfident.

"You’re doing great! Keep it up!" He shouted.

"Go, Charlotte, you got this!" Karumi cheered for her.

"Is this necessary?" Izzy asked. She was worried about Charlotte’s well-being and didn’t want her getting hurt.

"Of course it is. Mages should be confident in their abilities, but not overconfident. Look at her, she’s not even trying to counterattack. It’s embarrassing. This is why you don’t bite off more than you can chew."

Technically, Kai was the one who gave her more than what she could chew, but his point still stood.

"I get it."

"Fight back, Charlotte! You got this!" Kai shouted.

"Ahhh! W-Wind cutter!" She shouted, a blade of wind tearing into the bear’s leg. It did draw blood, but it wasn’t strong enough to tear through the leg.

"Wind magic? And was that a chant? People still chant?" Kai asked

"Only if they aren’t as familiar with the spell they’re using. Charlotte is proficient in wind, water, and ice magic." Izzy explained.

"Ahh, I see. What are you proficient in?"

"The five basic elements, healing, enchantments, runes, and support magic."

"Damn, you’re stacked!" Kai had only met one woman like her in his life, and that was Kassandra. He had a feeling that she and Izzy would be good friends.

’Damn, now I have to add Izzy to the harem. Well, that’s not a problem. She’s hot as fuck anyway.’

"WHY AREN’T MY WIND CUTTERS WORKING?!" Charlotte screamed

"Don’t aim all over the body. Keep aiming for its leg you slightly injured before." Karumi shouted back.

"Wind cutter! Wind cutter! Wind cutter! Wind...Fuck I’m out of breath! WIND CUTTER GOD DAMMIT!"

She kept firing at the bear’s leg, avoiding its frost breath, and slowly tearing through its thick hide, muscles, and eventually, bone. After a few more wind cutters, she took off the bear’s leg.

"I-I did it! I DID IT!" This was such a high moment for her that she forgot that she was still in a fight.

No one warned her either. Before Charlotte realized the bear wasn’t killed, she was hit in the back by its paw, sharp claws digging into her back.

"Arghhhhh!!"

Izzy looked away, Karumi laughed, and Kai frowned.

"Get up, Charlotte. You’re not done yet. Pain is normal; it happens all the time. If you think the pain is unbearable, just remember that people literally give their lives for you. You can handle a scratch, especially since you know it’s going to be healed later." Kai shouted at her.

As painful as it was, Charlotte agreed. She got up, then prepared to attack again.

"Aim for its eyes!" Izzy shouted to give her some advice.

Doing as she was instructed to do, Charlotte created snow to block the bear’s vision, then shot wind cutters at its eyes, blinding it.

Once that was done, she charged in like a madman, jumped on the bear’s back, then channeled all the mana she had left in her body.

"SUPER DUPER MEGA ULTRA WIND CUTTER!" A giant, powerful wind cutter tore right through the bear’s body, cutting it in half, killing the primal beast with one shot.

That took all of Charlotte’s mana, so she ended up passing out.

"Wow, that was amazing. We didn’t even tell her to do that. She’s learning fast." Karumi walked over to Charlotte, healed her body, then kicked the bear away.

Kai grabbed the bear, storing it in his inventory since it was the sign of her victory and how strong she had gotten. He knew she would be happy to have this as a trophy.

"Thank you for helping Charlotte out. She has always been insecure about her abilities. I hate to admit it, but I’m a person who goes by the books and teaches the same way. I expect my students to find their own version of mana without me. But now, I see that I was wrong. Thank you."

"No problem. When a system works, you don’t see any faults in it until one happens."

Izzy couldn’t agree more. "Oh, before we go, can I see your magic in action, your true magic?"

"Hmm, sure." Kai swiped his finger across the air in the direction of the many trees that riddled the forest, and everything in that path was obliterated. There was no snow, ice, trees, leaves, grass, or even any animals left. The ground was scarred for miles and was so hot that lava started forming.

"W-WHAT THE FUCK?!" Izzy knew he was powerful, but this was out of this world.

"Wow, you really held back, huh?" Karumi laughed.

"H-Held back?" Izzy fainted.

"You might wanna restore the forest. Doing this to nature is a bad omen."

"Right." Kai reversed the destruction of the forest with time powers, then entered the carriage to leave, carrying Charlotte and Izzy.

When he wondered why the coachman wasn’t driving, he noticed that he had passed out from shock as well, but his face was still staring at the forest with his mouth agape and his eyes wide.

"Guess I’m teleporting everyone back."
