The Hero of Hypnosis-Chapter 451: Joining the expedition
"WHAT?!" Everyone shouted in disbelief.
Even the princess, who was 100 percent on board with marrying Kai even though she was against arranged marriages, was shocked.
"W-What do you mean, nah?" The king asked 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
"I don’t want the title of a lord, nor do I wish to marry your daughter." Kai wasn’t interested in his daughter; besides, she was 16. Too young. He only mingled with adults.
"Do you not think my daughter is beautiful?" The king’s voice started to rise.
"What in the waffles and pancakes conversation is this? No, that’s not the reason why. Your daughter is too young." Kai sighed.
"I heard that you are only 19. How is three years younger than you too young?"
That was a valid point. In those old times, marriages around the age of 15 and so were normal. Even having children around this age was normal. In modern times, 16 was also the age of consent, and they could romantically be in a relationship with someone three years older than them, even physically.
But that didn’t mean Kai was one of those guys. Sure, he would cuck husbands, steal daughters, and have sex with his friends’ girls, but he wasn’t a weirdo who would go for someone who wasn’t an adult.
"Well, it’s my preference." Kai didn’t have to explain himself to the king.
"Do you know what you are saying, child? I respect everything you have done for me and my kingdom, but this doesn’t mean I’ll tolerate disrespect." The king’s mana started to rise.
Kai released a small fraction of his power, shutting the king down in an instant.
"You tryna fight or something?" Kai asekd
The king gulped. "But that’s okay! A man of your stature has every right to decline, not wanting to marry someone you don’t wish to. Hahaha! That’s what I like about you, Kai."
The king did a whole 180, shocking everyone present, but that was probably the smartest thing he could have done.
"By the way, you were able to cure me of my sickness. Do you think you can cure the others as well?" The king asked
"The others?"
"Yes. You see, my men and I went on a 33rd expedition to the frozen forest because some strange activity was going on there. Each expedition ended in failure, but each time, we were able to gather vital information that helped us progress forward each time."
Kai was very interested in this expedition. Usually, this meant treasure would be involved.
"But this time, the 33rd expedition ended in a failure so great that I fear we may not be able to find out what’s going on in the frozen forest."
"What is this strange activity you’re talking about?" Kai asked
"Our goddess told us that there is something in the forest that is making the monsters there run wild. It’s also the reason why our winters have been colder and harsher than normal. She cannot see what it is, but if we can go deeper into the frozen forest and open some sort of veil, then Goddess Frostina would be able to help us."
’Is this true?’ Kai asked Frostina.
’Yes. I sense some sort of divine power there. It is way stronger than my own, and I cannot see through the veil it has set up. It has a similar feeling to that Progenitor Decay you came in contact with.’
’Hmmm. Okay, I’ll check it out. It’s sort of my job to do so anyway.’
"Okay, I’ll go check it out. This sounds like fun anyway."
The king’s eyes lit up. "Thank you, Sir Kai."
"No problem."
"Haha! I’ll inform the knights about this after the party."
Just then, Prince Philip walked up to his father. "Father, may I announce something?"
"Go ahead, my son."
He cleared his throat. "Ahem. First, I want to thank all of you for coming to my father’s celebration of health. It makes me glad to see that all of you came to show your support."
Everyone clapped and nodded their heads.
"Now, there is something important that I wish to announce. I am no longer interested in the throne and will be traveling the continent to find a greater purpose in life. I was inspired by Sir Kai’s amazing power and wanted to seek enlightenment as well. That will be all."
Everyone was not expecting this, not even King Louis. But he was happy that his son wasn’t interested in the throne. King Louis never wanted the throne growing up, but his siblings did.
They all fought for it and ended up killing themselves. Because of this, Louis was the only true heir left to the throne, so he had no choice but to claim it. As for the unofficial heirs, his father’s affair children, he welcomed them into the kingdom with open arms, and they are now nobles in the kingdom.
The second prince’s faction was furious, though. All of their time, effort, and resources were now for nothing. But, there was a reason why the crew never went down the the captain of their ship, sometimes.
They would go to the first prince to support him and already had ways to win his favor.
"Wow. I guess not killing the guy really changed his heart." Kai chuckled to himself.
Soon, the party eventually came to an end, and everyone went home. The king brought Kai to the royal infirmary, where all of the men from the 33rd expedition were in critical condition.
"Do you think you’ll be able to heal them?" The king asked
"No worries. This is a piece of cake." He held up one finger, and all of the progenitor decay left their bodies and swirled around Kai’s own, forming a ball of energy over his finger before it was absorbed into his body.
"Amazing. You truly are a miracle."
"I do my best. So, when can I leave for this frozen forest?"
"Well, I want you to go with a whole team to ensure your victory or at least survival."
"Haha! Don’t worry about that. I’m not easy to kill. You can send a team to make sure no monsters get past me, but other than that, I can handle the rest."
The king nodded. "Understood."
