The Informal Tomb Raiding Diary: She is the occupant of the tomb!-Chapter 27: Joy Lasts No More Than 3 Seconds
The only ones who came out before us and have the strength to subdue Wen Jing and his group are Boss Lu and her team.
"Without getting the Nine Nether Flower and the Power Source, what’s the point of capturing Wen Jing and his people?"
"A scapegoat. The mission failed, someone must take the fall."
"Miss Cheng can testify that she almost died at the hands of Boss Lu."
"That’s why Boss Lu wants to silence her."
"Will she kill Miss Cheng and frame Wen Jing and Shunfeng?!"
Chen Qinghan looked at me without speaking. He had escorted Miss Scream all this way, and if at the last moment they are framed by Boss Lu, wouldn’t all his efforts be in vain?
I patted the Water Monster’s head, asking it to help sniff out Wen Jing’s scent and tell us which way to chase.
I don’t really care whether Miss Scream lives or dies. What I care about is that Chen Qinghan’s hard work doesn’t go to waste.
Of course, it would be great to find my bag as well.
The Water Monster used its enhanced sense of smell to lead us to find the people. The cave outside the stone door had no forks, just a sloping path leading downward, making it quite strenuous to climb uphill.
It took us over an hour to walk up this slope to reach the actual exit.
The sunlight shone through the irregular circular opening. My mind buzzed; this was real sunlight, not an image from a video or picture.
I stopped to feel the sun on my face, but Chen Qinghan pulled me into the shadow.
"Your eyes need to adjust." Chen Qinghan’s tone was a bit stern.
Human eyes, when accustomed to darkness, should not suddenly face strong light.
I’ve heard this said, but it applies to normal people. I consider myself as strong as King Kong, so I didn’t pay much attention.
But Chen Qinghan is very concerned about my health issues. The more he behaves this way, the more I feel like a pig being fattened for slaughter.
"I occasionally use a lamp and check my phone in the tomb, I’m not afraid of light." I was eager to jump out and do a few somersaults, breaking free from Chen Qinghan’s grip and dashing towards the cave entrance.
"Waiting a thousand years for a single return... waiting for you..." I was overjoyed, expressing my feelings through song, "Dong dong dong~ di di di~ dun dun dun dun dun——"
I hummed every tune I could associate with regaining freedom.
With the opening theme of Journey to the West playing in my head, I leapt out of the cave, performing several somersaults outside.
Just as my excitement hadn’t yet dissipated, a clicking sound was heard; it was the sound of a gun safety being released.
"Little sis, having fun there, playing Sun Wukong? So, the Five Finger Mountain can’t hold you down, huh? Even adding your own soundtrack, ain’t you talented!" A man with a strong Northeast accent gestured the gun muzzle at my head.
This man was Boss Lu’s bodyguard; I distinctly remembered her voice and accent.
"Were you the one dancing around down there, pulling snakes and attracting bugs?"
"It wasn’t me."
"If not you, then who? I remember this style of clothing. It differs a bit from the one back then, but definitely the same style. Little rascal, you think a change of outfit makes you unrecognizable?"
I glanced at the gun in his hand, then at the surroundings with my peripheral vision. It was just him here, so I didn’t need to worry about him.
"It was me, so what?" I straightened up and asked with righteous pride.
"Not much, just gonna teach you a lesson!" The man put the gun away and pulled out a baton from his waist.
So he’s asking for a one-on-one fight, huh?
I snickered inwardly: Do you think I’m a paper tiger?
Without hesitation, I lunged at him, attempting to seize the weapon from his hand. He retaliated harshly, punching me in the eye.
But I’m not a pushover either; I punched his nose, breaking it, and snatched the baton from his hand.
Over the years, I’ve lost count of how many tomb robbers I’ve fought inside the tombs and I’ve never lost.
In a fistfight, they only end up unlucky; hitting me doesn’t hurt, but my punches are effective.
At this point, Chen Qinghan ran over, aiming for the gun tucked at the man’s back.
With one swift move, he was KO’d, disarmed, and the man curled on the ground, clutching his bloodied nose.
"Professor Chen, since when did you get along so well with the Leng Family?" Boss Lu and her remaining men emerged from behind a boulder not too far away.
We were currently standing on a mountain slope, or more accurately, on the slope of a snow-covered mountain.
The wind was strong, the temperature extremely low, and snow particles whipped up by the wind battered our faces like sandpaper.
The outside and the inner cave were worlds apart. I looked at Chen Qinghan: "Your clothes aren’t dry yet, maybe we should head back into the cave to talk?"
"Sounds good, the weather’s about to change, let’s return to the cave and talk slowly." Boss Lu gestured ’please’ with her hand.
I looked up at the sky. Above us, it was still a clear blue sky, but to the north, a massive black cloud was moving towards us.
The dark clouds surged like black waves; a snowstorm will arrive soon. No wonder Boss Lu and her team came out first but didn’t descend the mountain.
"I knew... Professor Chen isn’t that easy to kill; those with patience tend to have luck on their side."
Boss Lu rambled on, acting as if she was quite familiar with Chen Qinghan.
And her last sentence was clearly self-congratulatory. People like her, fake and insincere, are particularly annoying, so I couldn’t help but roll my eyes at her.
But Wen Jing and the other captives were still in her hands. For now, we had to endure and listen to her.
The man whose nose I broke was helped into the cave, glaring at me with bloodshot eyes full of hatred.
I’m not afraid of people glaring, cursing, or hating me. Any attack that doesn’t cause substantial harm is not worth worrying about.
"Foolish one, daring to mess with the Leng Family; you’re courting death." Boss Lu showed no concern for the injured, her tone instead blaming him.
I guessed she was blaming him for having a gun but preferring to fight hand-to-hand; if he’d just shot me, how could he have been injured?
Is having a gun impressive? This was hard to explain, and I didn’t want to explain. What harm can a mere handgun do to me? I even tried machine guns, and they only left a few holes in my clothes.
Once everyone was inside the cave, I stood close to the entrance, communicating silently with the Water Monster.
It had found Wen Jing and his friends, then returned to ask me what to do next.
Boss Lu had deliberately kept Miss Scream and the others separate. Knowing a snowstorm was coming yet not bringing them in to shelter clearly meant she wanted them dead. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
I asked the Water Monster to rescue them. Boss Lu’s people were all in the cave, so Wen Jing’s side should be unguarded.
Here, Boss Lu tried persuading Chen Qinghan to silence Miss Scream and pin the responsibility on Wen Jing and Shunfeng, thus having some explanation for Chairman Cheng.
Without his only daughter, Chairman Cheng’s desire for the Nine Nether Flower would grow, and by collaborating with them, it would be easy to siphon away the Cheng Group’s wealth.
"As for Chairman Cheng, when one is too obsessed with something, mental issues are likely, and he is not a match for us."
