Chapter 245: Unwarranted jealousy (4)

What was Linda expecting Hazel to do when Edgar was now married? Had Linda told her that she started to have feelings for Edgar again then Hazel would have tried once more to get the two together.

Hazel couldn’t help what she didn’t know about. Linda was placing her in a difficult position over something that she thought had long gone away.

Hazel already told Alessandra that wanted to get closer to her and she had mentioned this to their husbands. To go back on her word now because of Linda’s old crush would be childish. Even more childish because Alessandra wasn’t aware of what was happening.

By now, Alessandra would have to know that there were many lining up to marry her husband and it is not her fault that she was the one Edgar chose. Linda could not get angry with the duchess and try to be mean to her.

"This is so childish. You have not mentioned that crush for such a long time and the man is freaking married. Edgar is close to Tobias and after meeting his wife, I like her. I can’t help it. It’s wonderful that I can be close to the wife of the man my husband trusts with his life," Hazel said, letting her frustration out.

This was meant to be a day of being distracted by sitting with Alessandra. Hazel just wanted to be calm and not think of her struggles in the palace. Not arguing with anyone but here she was being viewed as a bad friend for having Alessandra here when she didn’t know Linda didn’t let go of Edgar.

Hazel tried not to cry as this added to all the other feelings that she had been bottling up. She couldn’t cry now to have Linda worry then this would reach Tobias’s ears for the truth to come out that she was depressed.

She was far from ready to speak this with anyone so once more, she hid her tears. Why was it so hard to have one day in the palace without some sort of drama? It had grown from the men in court to now having a silly disagreement with Linda.

Hazel continued to explain, "If you have to pretend you like being in her presence to sit at that table then you need to leave. I’m sure the Duchess has felt awkward judging by how she reacts when you speak to her. What are you going to do, Linda?

Linda expected Hazel to just side with her. Her heart broke knowing that Edgar was no longer a man she could court and this time she truly had to give up on him.

Linda looked outside to where Alessandra sat alone outside eating in peace. They should be out there with the duchess. She knew how it must feel to be sitting alone while the others were elsewhere talking because she had been in that position before.

Alessandra could be thinking that they were talking poorly of her. Hazel was right that she had been treating Alessandra poorly for no reason. It couldn’t be helped that Edgar had found someone. Linda knew long ago that his attention would never come to her.

Linda felt like a fool. "I suppose I was a little bit childish and I did intend to get under her skin at some point. I’m such an idiot. You’re right."

Linda covered her face with her right hand. How was she to go back to face Alessandra after how she made a fool of herself? If she were in Alessandra’s position, she would hesitate to forgive and move on. Should she just leave to let Hazel have the day she planned with Alessandra?

Hazel moved Linda’s hand from her face. It was good that Linda came to her senses and regretted her actions. She would continue to see Linda as a stranger had Linda not snapped out of what she had done. "Luckily, you didn’t do anything petty or lowdown to leave a sour taste in her mouth. The aura at the table was just weird. Come on my little lamb."

Hazel pinched Linda’s cheeks to try to put her in a better mood instead of worrying. She didn’t think the chance of Linda and Alessandra being friends was out the window, but they would see now just how forgiving Alessandra was.

Linda stepped back to stop Hazel from pinching her cheek. "I told you to stop calling me that. Do not make me pinch the queen and call her a ridiculous nickname. I do not want to be thrown in prison."

On the balcony, Alessandra looked inside at the two women who seemed to be in a better mood now. She hoped that for whatever reason Linda disliked her was over with now. She didn’t have a curse nor was she interested in fighting with anyone.

Alessandra had fought for as long as she could remember and now she just wanted to enjoy the somewhat quiet life her husband offered her. While she enjoyed being in the palace, if her presence here was getting in the way of the queen’s friendship with her childhood friend, Alessandra would gladly leave.

"I can walk around the palace until Edgar is finished with the king," Alessandra planned. The last thing she wanted was for Edgar to know that she didn’t enjoy her time in the palace after the only reason he was here was because of her.

Should Hazel and Linda go back to being at odds because of her, Alessandra would take her leave.

Alessandra smiled as Hazel returned, apologising for being away so long. "You weren’t gone for long. Is everything alright?"

Linda nodded her head. She still felt terrible but as Hazel said, Alessandra was owed an explanation and an apology. "Everything is alright now. I’m sorry if I might have made you feel weird or maybe you did not feel anything at all. I was a little taken aback by your presence because I used to love your husband."

Hazel almost choked after taking a sip of juice because of the way Linda told Alessandra the truth. She told Linda to be honest with Alessandra but she had expected that Linda would ease it into the conversation for Alessandra.

Luckily, Alessandra was the most mature of the three to forgive Linda’s actions and was willing to move on.

Hazel wanted to applaud Alessandra for her ability to move on because Hazel could not easily move on should some woman come to her this way.

With the tension cleared up, the three women were able to finally enjoy sitting with each other.
