The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 247: Not ready (2)
Chapter 247: Not ready (2)
"What I said years ago has not changed. I am not bringing someone into our marriage and you cannot do it."
Hazel laughed as it was funny to hear him mention her wanting a man. She was not allowed to have another man in her life. She wasn’t granted that same privilege so should she ever be found with another man it would be quite the scandal.
It would be the perfect way to lose her crown but even then, she wouldn’t be allowed to leave the palace.
"There is no other man I want in my life. You are already much to put up with," Hazel joked.
Hazel could laugh now but she would later be saddened by having to think that with no news to offer about a child, she would have to face Tobias picking a woman who might be able to provide an heir. And should that woman not have a child, he would need another.
Hazel trusted now that Tobias only had eyes for her but she feared what would happen should he have to lay with another woman for his duty. What if he would come to enjoy being with someone new?
As much as she loved him, Hazel’s mind was in too much of a dark place for her to be as confident as she was before. What she heard daily slowly picked at her confidence and despite how many times Tobias spoke highly of her without knowing her struggles, she wasn’t the same person that she was years ago.
Her mother had been wrong that she was the one who could bear all of this. Hazel only found it fitting that Helena was not the one in her shoes because Helena would not have lasted long.
"Hazel," Tobias called to her.
Hazel looked lost in thought, something he had caught her doing a lot these days. Whenever he asked about it, she would never reveal what was troubling her. Tobias hated that he had to resort to having someone spy on her or question her maids from time to time.
Tobias knew that it was wrong of him to ask for her secrets to be told when he had some secrets concerning her that he had failed to share, but he was trying to protect Hazel.
"When are you going to tell me what troubles you? Though I am constantly busy, I am free whenever you want to talk. No matter what it is that you want to talk about. I cannot go on pretending that I do not notice that you are not happy. I can’t," Tobias said as it made him feel more than a terrible husband.
He already considered himself to be a terrible husband with how much attention he had to give to the kingdom as opposed to Hazel. How he could not always be on time for dinner or he was late to find his way to her bedroom so they could say good night to each other.
It was taking longer than he had anticipated for him to get many of the men not needed here out of the palace. There was much to clean up from the kings before him and he might not be able to get all that he set out to do completed during his reign.
Tobias was working hard, sacrificing moments he wanted to spend with Hazel to make their future safer. To try to make the palace safer for their children. He did not want to dump a mess on his child like what was done to him.
"I don’t... there is nothing wrong with me," Hazel replied. "We should go down for dinner-" fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
"We still have some time before it is served and I am starting to consider that we have it brought here. Hazel, I am growing tired of playing the guessing game with you. Please give me the truth so I can stop worrying. We sleep together almost every night. See each other daily and yet, I don’t know what troubles you," said Tobias.
Tobias held her hand so she wouldn’t leave him. He had to get to the bottom of this before it would get worse. Hazel could never fool him. Not when he paid so much attention to her when he finally had time to be near her.
"I’ve been in the palace long. I know that it gets to anyone and I should have been checking in more. Even Sofia is vocal about her troubles here. We have enough time to talk. Let us sit," Tobias said then tried to take Hazel to a chair but she pulled her hand from his hold.
"I do not want to speak," Hazel turned down the offer. She was not ready yet. "I had a good day and I wish to end it on a good note."
"Seeing that you never want to speak about it means that it is something that troubles you more than you might realise. I am your husband. I will not judge you or laugh at what is bothering you. Allow me to help you before you are no longer the Hazel that I know," Tobias pleaded.
Tobias couldn’t have this go on for much longer as he might lose his wife. "What happened to us communicating?"
"I should ask you that as well because I know you are keeping secrets from me. Like not long ago when I spoke about the Hensons and you were annoyed. We both have things we want to keep to ourselves. I just want to enjoy dinner and then go to bed," Hazel said, turning away from Tobias to hide her face.
She had saved the day when Linda and Alessandra were not getting along. Why couldn’t she and Tobias just sit for dinner and enjoy each other’s company?
"Is it because we do not have a child?" Tobias asked.
Tobias was trying to avoid bringing this up but he would not get any answers if he continued to circle this. After three years and no child, this was bound to bother Hazel. All the pressure was placed on her to have the child, whether it was someone in the palace or town talking about it.
Unfortunately, Tobias could not get everyone to stop speaking about there being no heir.
"I told you that I am not in any rush-"
"Three years have gone by. You can no longer say that to me. I should have been pregnant during the first year of our marriage. Hearing you say that you can wait only upsets me because I know that you cannot," Hazel confessed.
She was tired of hearing the same thing over and over when she knew that it was a lie.
