The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 260: Different (1)
Chapter 260: Different (1)
"I’m sure she will be fine. No need to panic. The duchess seems to know how to care for herself and should she need any help, she can call upon us," Hazel said to calm Heather. "It was nice of her to let you sit with us."
Heather agreed with Hazel. What woman in town would be so friendly to another who once was pushed to marry their husband by his mother? "I don’t know why," she answered.
"Because she has a good heart. I am privy to a little bit about her childhood because of an ongoing court case so I understand why she is so willing to help others. When it comes to marriage, that is something I cannot do. Well, I have not been tested by it," said Hazel.
There was never once a woman Tobias might have previously been with or a woman who courted him in the past came to Hazel to let it be known. Her troubles came from the women trying to court him now and she already knew their intentions so she wasn’t surprised.
"You’ve moved on from him right?" Hazel asked as she wouldn’t have Heather meddling in Alessandra’s marriage.
"I would be a fool to still want Edgar. I only pursued him so much because of my mother and his mother. I want to pick my husband now," Heather said.
"That is good to hear. It is funny that right now, two of her friends have once liked her husband. What an interesting bunch we are," Hazel joked. First Linda and Heather. Who would be next?
The door opened and Eleanor walked in.
Eleanor was ecstatic to be invited into a private room with the queen and duchess. Her aunt would not believe it.
"Eleanor, what happened to my husband? Did he find the culprit?" Hazel asked as she stood up to speak with the maid who escorted Eleanor here. She had to know where Tobias was now. She still feared that he was in a terrible mood and he shouldn’t be alone right now.
"It was Sophia West. He has ordered that her punishment be to lose a hand. Some might find it to be too much but I think that it is fair," Eleanor said, delighted by the news. She didn’t think the king would go through with it as he would only want to scare her but it was still good to see Sophia so horrified.
"Well, it is dangerous to throw something at another’s head. It could have ended differently if it hit another place. It isn’t fair she gets to walk away without punishment while Alessandra is cleaning up a little messy wound. The court will help decide if to lower her punishment but the husbands must be present," Hazel explained.
"You are dismissed," Hazel told the maid. Now was the time for a private talk with the women present.
It would be quite the sight to witness Sophia’s husband trying to persuade Edgar to not go ahead with the punishment.
"She is lucky. Punishments used to be more extreme. She could have lost her head once upon a time ago," Eleanor said, but then she regretted it as it might be too gruesome for this group of women.
Hazel laughed at Eleanor’s moment of regret. "I was made to read history books about those kinds of things and it is no use to me now. Though Heather looks like she might spoil the floor. Please remember that I am just making use of my husband’s room. He wouldn’t like knowing that someone vomited in here."
Heather touched her mouth. "I will try to hold it in."
Alessandra exited the small bathroom which had a mirror for her to see her wound and clean it. She failed to get some of the blood out of her dress but with this being the end of the party for her, she didn’t want to trouble Hazel to send a maid for a new dress.
"Does it hurt now?" Heather asked, still worried about the wound though it was now patched up.
"It does not," Alessandra replied. She was fortunate that there was only a slight sting because she had been touching it to clean it up.
"I’m sorry, duchess. That stone must have been meant for me because of what I said about her husband and her past," Eleanor said, regretting her words now as it had caused someone to be hurt. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
Hazel couldn’t help staring at where the wound was. Sophia had truly lost her mind.
Alessandra noticed Hazel’s stare. She didn’t need them to be so concerned as this would heal in due time. "There is no need to stare at my forehead, Hazel. The bleeding has stopped and there isn’t any pain at the moment. I am fine."
Alessandra then turned to Eleanor to say, "I don’t need any more apologies from you too Eleanor. It was not your fault that I was hit. Throwing a stone at a group of people is a bad idea from the beginning."
"Yes, but it doesn’t make me feel any better," Eleanor said, still feeling like she had a role in it. She needed to get even with Sophia. All she needed was a brief moment alone with wherever they were holding Sophia now and then she could relax.
Hazel knew the day was going to be hectic later on because of what the maid informed her. "You are alright but it is your husband I am worried about. Sophia’s husband is currently destroying my husband’s ears to release her," she said as she sat down beside Alessandra.
It was easy for Sophia’s husband to find out about what happened to her since he worked in the palace. Hazel didn’t want to hear his request for Sophia to be released and she hoped that he wouldn’t trouble Tobias.
Sophia had a mouth that would get her in trouble and today it did. If they let her leave so easily, Sophia might think that she could be this way again and not receive any kind of punishment.
"Release her? She injured Alessandra while trying to hit someone else."
"What would it take for there to be a normal gathering with ladies who don’t seek to rip each other’s throats?" Hazel wondered as many of the parties she ended or hosted always had some sort of drama in them. From now on, it might be best to just invite the women she liked to the palace.
The idea of having a gathering just for the women she liked seemed close to happening with Alessandra wanting to plan one and with it being on the duke’s estate, Hazel would be able to travel there.
Hazel looked forward to Alessandra’s first party and with Linda soon returning to town in a day, she would get to introduce Linda to her new friends.
A knock at the door interrupted their plans as Julia had come to serve Hazel and her guest.
Julia had to thank her luck as she had overheard where the queen was sitting with these women and moved quickly to make tea. The duchess was present as well so she would be able to kill two birds with one stone. "Your Highness, I have brought more tea for you and your guest."
