The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 280: The harsh truth (3)
Chapter 280: The harsh truth (3)
Alessandra felt like she was in between a rock and a hard place. She wanted to calm Edgar down a bit before he left the estate. Taking all of the men under his command meant there was going to be a big fight and Alessandra didn’t want him to get hurt.
When Edgar took his army to the palace, the palace guards would point their weapons at him. There would be a war today.
Along with that, Alessandra worried about Hazel. Hazel’s breathing sounded off and she looked unable to stand alone. It was a lot to find out that someone had been stopping you from having a child. Especially when you spent a long time blaming yourself.
Alessandra was concerned about what the tea she drank would have done to her as well. She had been intimate with her husband and didn’t want to lose a baby. Still, instead of thinking of herself or Edgar any longer, Alessandra went to Hazel’s side. Hazel needed to be comforted.
"Hazel," Alessandra said, trying to get her attention.
Hazel leaned on Alessandra for support. "I’m sorry," she apologised. "I invited you to sit and you were served tea. I apologise for what happened because of it."
"You did not have to apologise. You are not responsible for the actions of others. You must sit down," Alessandra said, looking around for a chair. "Can you please help me, Eleanor?" freewebnσvel.cøm
"With a chair or holding the queen up?" Eleanor asked as she went to Hazel’s side.
Alessandra looked up the stairs. It was better to take Hazel up to her room so she could lie down. Hazel also needed to be out of sight from anyone who would come questioning about what Edgar was doing now. "Hazel, we will take you to your bedroom."
Hazel wiped her eyes as they started to fill with water. She had to apologise to Alessandra and Edgar a thousand times for bringing the two into her mess. Alessandra wouldn’t have drank that tea if not for the invitation to sit in the room.
"What is happening here?" Questioned Rose Collins.
Edgar, Alessandra, and the queen had left the dining room without giving a reason why. She grew tired of waiting around.
"Where is my grandson?" Rose asked, looking around for Edgar.
"He has left to go to the palace. I will be back down soon to send you and my grandmother off. The dinner will not be happening since Edgar is not here," Alessandra said.
"Spit it out," Rose said, not wanting to wait for Alessandra’s return. They were all family here so what was the reason for being secretive?
Alessandra did not respond to Rose and continued to help Hazel walk up the stairs. With the way Rose acted now, Alessandra would not share what happened.
Hazel appreciated Alessandra and Eleanor being beside her, to help her hold her up. She wouldn’t have made it up the stairs if not for these two. Her body was starting to feel weak and though she started to breathe like normal, Hazel did not feel like she was getting better.
Hazel could not escape thinking about how two of the people close to her were the ones hurting her. People she cared for and looked after.
"Oh!" Alessandra gasped, catching Hazel before she could fall. She glanced at Hazel, noticing how all traces of life left Hazel’s eyes. Hazel had been excited to celebrate Edgar’s birthday and now, all that excitement was gone.
They were able to make it to the room without Hazel stumbling again. Alessandra helped Hazel to sit on the bed. The only thing Hazel could do was talk or rest.
"Eleanor, please tell Alfred to give you a glass of water-"
"I don’t want anything to drink," Hazel stopped Alessandra.
Hazel trusted Alessandra but she couldn’t bring herself to accept anything to drink from anyone now.
Alessandra wanted to tell Hazel that she could trust the water, but stopped. It made perfect sense why Hazel didn’t want to accept something from anyone.
"I will see what the duke is doing," Eleanor said, knowing Alessandra had to be worried about her husband. It was also better for Hazel to be alone with Alessandra since the two were close. She hoped that by leaving Hazel could speak to Alessandra.
Alessandra watched as Eleanor left the room and then turned to Hazel. "Do you want to talk?"
"I can’t bring myself to believe that the people I was so close to are the ones trying to hurt me. I tried my best to help her siblings. Help when she was finding herself in trouble yet she would put something inside my tea. What had I done to her for her to steal the chance of being a mother?" Hazel asked.
Hazel tried to think back to the past with Julia. Julia had always been by her side, smiling alongside Daisy. She had always complimented Julia for her hard work tending to her. Hazel wanted to forget all the times she had spoken highly of Julia.
Right now, Hazel didn’t know if she could trust Daisy, the guards who followed her, the maids who served her for dinner. Who was she to trust?
"I’ve had my fair share of being hurt by the people closest to me because I was in the way of getting what they wanted. People can be evil like that. I’m so sorry you had to go through this, Hazel. Your husband will make her and everyone involved in this pay. She will not get away," Alessandra said, certain of it.
Alessandra knew that Edgar was not going to return to the estate without the person who poured the tea dead.
"All this time, I thought that I could not have a child. I did everything I could to have one. I came to the point of telling Tobias to take another woman so he could have a child. All along, I could have been a mother long ago. I took Julia to my side from the beginning of my time as queen," Hazel said, realising the harsh truth of something from the past.
"I was pregnant early in my marriage but lost the baby during a trip out. I wonder, had I not picked Julia, could there have been a three-year-old calling me mother? Sometimes followed where I had to go through that feeling over again. Seeing the blood and knowing I have to tell Tobias that I lost another. I’m sorry," Hazel apologised, wiping her eyes.
Hazel felt useless. All the people she should have kept away so that one of the babies she conceived would have made it into this world, she had kept by her side. Smiling in their faces while they were plotting.
Alessandra pulled Hazel toward her, patting her back to comfort her. "You do not need to apologise, Hazel. You are the victim of this. Please cry as much as you need to. I will be here to comfort you."
