Chapter 283: Fall of enemies (2)

’Julia?’ Tobias thought. She was one of the maids Hazel trusted most. He had only learned two names when it came to Hazel’s maids. If Daisy wasn’t beside Hazel, he at least expected to see Julia. They had both been around since the start of Hazel’s time as queen.

Tobias trusted Edgar had found valuable information for why he was certain it was Julia but why was there an army here? It looked as though Edgar was going to war with the king. "An army for one girl is a bit much-"

Edgar knew that a simple maid didn’t have the brains to come up with this plan. Someone big had to be backing her. Someone who disliked Alessandra as well. "I brought an army because we both know the people who could be behind this."

Edgar didn’t have time for all of Tobias’s questions. He just wanted the maid. "I don’t have a lot of patience to deal with my wife always being a target, Tobias. I want the girl and the name of the person she is working for. I don’t care what will come from my actions."

Tobias wanted answers as well. He had been questioning everyone today for the sole purpose of finding out who was involved in hurting Hazel. Who else were Grant’s followers? "Bring me the queen’s maid Julia!"

Tobias then turned back to Edgar. "If what you say is true, the queen was the target. I am the one who gets to deal with her."

If Julia was the one stopping Hazel from having a child, it was only right that Tobias got to kill her.

Edgar didn’t agree since he was the one to move quickly to aim for her head. Tobias had been around this maid for how long now? Why did it take someone else to notice? "Then you should try getting her before I do. How the fuck have you been watching everyone around your wife?"

Tobias clenched his fists. He didn’t need Edgar being hard on him when he already felt like a failure. He had been apologising to Hazel over and over again for failing. He did not need this now. "Edgar, I have been doing all that I can to protect Hazel but there are things that slip by me. It is not my fault that your wife got caught up in all of this."

Tobias didn’t want anyone to be secretly given something to stop them from having a child. Just as he wanted children, he wanted them for Edgar. " Do you think I wanted my wife or anyone else to go through all of this? The last thing I need is for you to point out my mistakes because your wife is involved."

Edgar couldn’t feel sorry for Tobias now as he was too angry about his wife being caught up in something that Tobias should have long taken care of. "I’m going to question every fucking thing that goes on inside your palace when it concerns my wife. First, a stone is thrown at her head, and now this. I have to watch her be shaken up at the thought this might prolong her chance to have a child-"

Tobias felt sorry that Edgar had to go through this, but he had been dealing with this for over three years now. Having experienced it only once, Edgar should understand how his feelings were multiplied right now.

Tobias continued, "I have been dealing with this from the moment Hazel and I got married so excuse me if I don’t want to hear about you and your wife missing one chance to have a child. You are not the only one affected in all of this Edgar. Do not direct your anger at me."

Tobias did not want to be fighting with Edgar now. Thankfully, the guards came with Julia before Edgar and Tobias could be at each other’s throats again.

Julia was nervous from the time she heard the news of the duke showing up at the gates and now that the guards were dragging her toward where the king spoke with the duke. It couldn’t be that they had figured out what she was doing since she was careful.

’I am fine,’ Julia thought. They must only want to ask a question about the queen and she was the most trusted maid. The guards dragging her was the only thing that left her failing to believe her words.

Edgar slid off his horse as soon as the maid was in sight but Tobias stopped him because they needed her alive for questioning. They wouldn’t get anywhere if they rushed to kill her.

Tobias ignored the way that Edgar shoved him. He understood being impatient when the truth was near.

"Did you put something in the Duchess’s tea?" Edgar asked.

Julia didn’t look at the duke. ’How did they find out?’ She wondered.

No one could know, especially with how she failed to give the queen tea these days. As long as she denied it, they could do nothing to her since they had no proof. She wanted to smile because of how good she was at getting out of this.

Had the duchess lost a child? Or was it the queen again? Either one would bring Grant good news and Julia hoped it would be enough for him to like her again.

Edgar considered her to be guilty because of her silence. "I consider a person who chooses not to speak as someone who does not require a tongue. Remaining silent will cost you your tongue and I shall have your lips knitted together with a hot needle. Speak now."

Tobias agreed with Edgar. An innocent person would have jumped quickly to beg for her life and plead her innocence.

Julia looked up at the duke. It wouldn’t have come to this if the duke would have just followed Grant from the beginning. "I am a loyal subject to the queen. I have never put anything in the duchess’s tea-" ƒгeewebnovёl.com

Tobias came forward to question her about Hazel. She was guilty in his eyes but he wanted to hear her say it. "What about the queen? What have you put in her tea? There is evidence pointing to you."

Julia continued to claim she was innocent. They were wasting their time since there was nothing that could be proved.

Despite there being no evidence, Tobias saw how she would be able to slip something by them.

"There are times when tea is served like clockwork in the palace but I am starting to recall you bringing my wife tea when you thought she needed relaxing. You are always by her side."

"Have you forgotten how you got out of your past troubles? The queen helped you and you rose to be in a better position than most servants in the palace."

It angered Tobias that Hazel had always gone far out of her way when it came to her maids. Hazel often spoke about the families of her maids and how she wanted to help them. This was the thanks Hazel got for being kind? This was how Julia treated someone who wanted the best for her?

Julia felt like she was winning this until her family was mentioned. He could not bring her family into this. They had nothing to do with her agreement with Grant.

"You cannot."

Tobias found it interesting how she thought her family could not be touched but she could mess with him and his wife. Rob him of the chance to be a father. Today was not a day that he would spare anyone. An eye for an eye. If taking the life of someone close to Julia would get her to speak then he would drag all of her family here.

Julia seemed even more surprised, in Tobias’s opinion, that he would go as far as to kill her family.

Tobias wanted to break her neck but he needed her alive for more questioning. "Why can’t I? Is it too cruel? Isn’t it as cruel as you robbing me of the chance to be a father and watching the queen cry knowing it was your fault? Why should I care about your family?" His voice rose as his anger grew.

He continued, "Is it because I am the king? I am not like others, you fool. My wife comes before the kingdom. I will have your family ready to lose their heads if you do not answer my questions. A good punishment would be for you to watch your little sister be eaten by a few starving dogs. Isn’t it?"

Julia panicked as the king and duke were both leaning toward calling upon her siblings. They could not harm children. Children who had nothing to do with this.

Julia loved her siblings so she had no choice but to confess. "I-It was only a little bit for the duchess. The order came at the last second. I don’t know what she did to upset them but I was told to put a little bit in her tea to teach her a lesson. The queen has been kind to me but my loyalty is owed to someone else who has always helped me as a child-"

Julia stumbled back as the two men came toward her, each wanting to be the first to kill her.

"Give me a fucking name!" Tobias yelled.

"G-Grant Henson," Julia revealed.
